  1. I hope somebody can help us with this. Alex has been having much worse diarrhea than usual the last few days; we're assuming it's due to the antibiotics (hopefully the probiotics will help with that). I don't know how to put this lightly but as a result her bottom is very, very sore and irritated. It's really making her feel miserable and it's so painful...
  2. Thanks for that info. We weren't sure on when she should take the probiotics with reguards to the antibiotics. Alex has decided to give them a try so I picked them up on the way home from work. My fingers are crossed that they don't make her feel sick. Would taking the probiotic with food be easist on her stomach? Also if they bother her stomach at first...
  3. Walter, I am in my first year of teaching so I know how truly tied to the classroom you are when you are a teacher. I don

  5. I'm not sure if anyone has experience with this but I think Alex is having a bit of a weird reaction to her nausea meds she got today. She's been having nightmares and is talking/mumbling in her sleep. When I went to go to bed, she was thrashing around in her sleep and kicking me! If I talk to her and hold her she'll calm down a bit, but it's kind of freaking...
  6. After that depressing post yesterday, I just wanted to update that things are going a little better. We got into see Alex

  8. Thanks everyone for your responses. I don
  9. I had to bring Alex (my fiance) into the ER last night because her fever skyrocketed and she started having some blood in her phlegm and was just generally stuggling quite a bit to breathe. She was admitted and is on an O2 mask and getting IV fluids and antibiotics. They said her chest X-ray looked like bronchiopneumonia (sp?) and her asthma is also complicating...
  10. My fiance, Alex, caught a cold a few days ago (her immune system seems pretty weak right now) and it seemed to go down into her chest causing a bad cough. This used to happen sometimes even before she had Celiac disease since she also has asthma. Anyway, since her cough was keeping her from getting any sleep she took some Robitussin, which is on the...
  11. I have a quick question about manufacturers and how much I can trust them. Lately, I almost always have to talk Alex into eating, and I know some of that is because her tummy feels better when she doesn't eat but I think she's also a bit bored with food. She's been eating mainly bananas, rice/rice noodles, applesauce, and veggies for the past while. I...
  12. My fiance is also anemic as a result of celiac and she is getting weekly IV iron. Her doctor told her to stay very well hydrated and to try wearing support hose (I think some pregnant women wear them). It doesn't help the anemia directly but increases circulation and helps raise her low blood pressure. I has helped a bit to reduce the light-headedness and...
  13. Hey uhave2bekidding! I'm pretty much in the same boat as you -- my fiance Alex has been recently diagnosed with Celiac. This board has been a great resource for me and and I'm sure you'll find the same. I decided to give up Gluten because I didn't want it around the house to possibly contaiminate her food but I imagine it's much harder to make that...
  14. I'm definitely no expert but just wanted to add that my fiance's Celiac came on pretty hard and fast after she had a viral pneumonia that turned into a pretty bad bacterial pneumonia requiring hospitalization. She had no GI symptoms before that but when she was able to eat after the worst of the pneumonia was over she began vomiting and having severe diarrhea...
  15. Yup, she's definitely totally gluten free and not eating out. Rice, applesauce, bananas, bland veggies, and gluten-free crackers and toast are basically all she's eating. Sometimes all I can convince her to eat is some applesauce when her tummy is feeling particularly bad. I've been worried she's not getting enough nutrients since she feels so...
  16. First of all, I'm sorry for asking so many questions but I feel you guys have the most Celiac knowlege out there. Anyway, my question is about meds for cramps and diarrhea. Alex (my fiance with Celiac) is so warn out from diarrhea every day. She's not getting glutenated but since her intestine is in the process of healing, food just rushes through her causing...
  17. I can't thank you all enough for your responses and input. I was a little freaked out after seeing Alex unconscious and thinking about how bad it could have been if she had been alone taking a bath or something. Your responses helped calm me down and your suggestions were really helpful. She's drinking pedialyte everyday and I think it's definitely keeping...
  18. I posted here a few weeks ago about my fiance, Alex, who was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease. Things have gotten a little better. She's able to eat more and she's keeping everything down and hasn't had any glutenings but unfortunately, her malabsorption hasn't gotten a lot better -- still chronic diarrhea and unable to gain much weight. A few days...
  19. Thanks everyone for all of your tips and advice. I thought we had gone gluten free but we didn't think to check hair products, lotions, etc. We got rid of anything the least bit questionable and it felt good to be doing something that might actually help Alex on the road to recovery. Most of her make-up we weren't sure about so we decided to throw it all...
  20. Thank you so much for all of your advice and support. I've been feeling a little overwhelmed and it's so great to hear from people who have been trough it -- I just want to know that there's some light at the end of the tunnel for Alex. Although there has been a definite improvement since she was diagnosed and started the gluten-free diet, she still doesn...
  21. Hello, my fiance has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease fairly recently and I'm really happy to find this forum. She and I try to be very vigilant about gluten but we are a bit new at this and sometimes she somehow gets some gluten which makes her stomach really upset. She feels so sick when it happens and all I want to do is help her feel better but I don...
