  1. Thank you to all that responded. I think that be must have very significant damage to his bowls. Yesterday I found out that his tTG level was three times the maximum normal value for his age. I know that he doesn't have any food allergies--that's what we were originally looking for when we found Celiacs. I give him soy milk, ect, but he does get cheese...
  2. Thanks for the tips! I plan to start experimental baking soon!
  3. Ok, so I've read about people being concerned about the ingredients of natural flavors. I decided to email companies and ask for a list of gluten-free foods, down to the ingredients in the natural flavors. The responses that I've gotten so far, Betty Crocker & Hershey's, say that that they plainly list their ingredients. (How can that really be true...
  4. I know that we should all eat healthy, but everyone needs a treat sometimes! I have seen gluten-free chocolate chips. Is that necessary? I have looked at various chocolates and other candies and none of them have gluten ingredients. I really enjoy baking, so any response would be greatly appreciated. I think that I'm ready to really test my baking skills...
  5. My son has been of gluten, as best as I can tell, for at least 3 days. (I started 6 days ago, but I wasn't really aware of cross-contamination until day 3. From then on I've been very careful!!!) On Sunday his tummy was upset and that night he vomited. I had given him soy cheese that day because I read that Celiacs should avoid lactose the first few months...
  6. Casein and whey are milk proteins that cause an allergic reaction if you are allergic to them. It is similar to other allergies, but if it's a food allergy your body tries to rid itself of the allergen by vomiting or diarrhea. Lactose intolerance exists when you lack the lactase enzyme, so your body cannot digest lactose, causing discomfort. Two different...
  7. I'm still in the very early stages of the identification of Celiac disease with my son, he hasn't even seen the GI doctor yet. My son's pediatrician ordered a full blood panel for my son. I just got the bill yesterday and it cost $500, and I got the results in 5 days. I've read here that the official test is a biopsy, but this disease is spotty, so you...
  8. I just found out that my son has Celiac, and the B-day party issue has been kind of upsetting to me. (I was planning a pizza party at kid-friendly pizza parlor.) I will have a gluten free cake. I have been told that some bakeries will even make one for you! I will probably also have Lays potato chips, fruits and Veggies, and other gluten-free foods. ...
  9. Thanks! There is so much to learn!!! I am very grateful for this great resource and all of the people who participate in this message board.
  10. My son was just diagnosed with Celiac disease via full panel blood work up. I had previously suspected that he had a milk allergy (Celiac symptoms?), but it turns out that he has no other allergies. I read that many people with Celiac disease are also lactose intolerant. How do I know if my son is lactose intolerant? I want to be sure that I remove...
  11. I will definitely spend a lot of time here. I have already spent quite a bit, and have learned many things. I am very committed to sticking with his diet. I am finding that it is very much so trial and error, at least at first! I am fortunate to live near Bob's red mill headquarters, and I have purchased lots of different grains to get a good start! ...
  12. Thank you so much for your help! Unfortunately, the only things that my son will really eat dependably are cereal, pasta, crackers, bread, and poultry. He's a carb junkie!!! That is why this is so hard. I've bought lots of new products. Some have been bad, others are OK. Thanks again for all ideas!
  13. My 3 yr old son was just diagnosed with Celiac disease a couple of days ago. He has had diarrhea, abdominal bloating, small appetite, irritability, and a small stature nearly his entire life. I have purchased lots of new food for him already. It's really hard because he is a VERY picky eater. Does anyone have any recommendations for kid-friendly food?...
