ARCHIVED Ore-ida Steam N' Mash
jitters replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Cheesy Mashed Potatoes also say gluten free on them but I don't recommend the taste of them. To my hubby and I they smelled and tasted like vomit. I'm just hoping maybe I got a rotten bag somehow?? I can't imagine they'd put a product out that smelled that strongly of that smell. Has anyone else tried this flavor? -
ARCHIVED Play Doh Alternatives?
jitters replied to mom2twoangels's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was watching the show John and Kate plus Eight the other day and she made her kids edible play dough. Said the recipe was equal parts peanut putter, powdered sugar, and honey. I've never tried it but it might be fun for little kids, just give them their own little ball of dough and let them nibble on it a little at the end. -
ARCHIVED Seeing A Specialist While Pregnant For Celiac Disease
jitters replied to maddycat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry, I guess I didn't really answer your question! No, I don't think so many scans and seeing a specialist is *neccessary*, but I do think its good they take a little more time and care in the celiac pregnancy. Growth of the fetus is important to watch in any pregnancy, and when the mother has celiac it can cause problems so they want to make sure the... -
ARCHIVED Seeing A Specialist While Pregnant For Celiac Disease
jitters replied to maddycat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, When I was pregnant my doctor also scheduled extra scans and was very proactive in learning about celiac, etc. I didn't have to go to a high risk doctor though. As long as we were both doing ok my doctor felt it wasn't neccessary. Getting the scans was great! Also, I should note that I had a scheduled C-section due to a previous one. While I was in the... -
My DH is always worse in the mornings. I usually get up and hold a cold pop can for awhile. It helps a lot and by the time its warmed up a little it doesn't itch any more. I use ice packs as well, but when I'm in a hurry and just want to grab something to help a cold can works wonders for me!

ARCHIVED Four Year Old With Chronic Stomach Aches?
jitters replied to jitters's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you so much for responding. I know I'm doing the right thing by taking gluten out of her diet because she has been almost a different child today- happy, talkative, and she is actually playing instead of begging to watch tv and lay on the couch. Yay! Usually she is little miss attitude, today we have seen some attitude but its at least 90% better... -
ARCHIVED Four Year Old With Chronic Stomach Aches?
jitters posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, My daughter is four years old and has been complaining of stomach aches for at least a year. There is a definite history of celiac in the family and after numerous tests, etc. they have ruled out any food intolerances and diagnosed her as constipated. We've had her on Milk of Magnesia for about two or three months now. She poops regularly and when she... -
ARCHIVED Is This Not Normal?
jitters replied to Will The Thrill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In my experience the longer you stay away from gluten the worse the reaction you'll get when you do have it. I knew I had issues with it when I was in college but still ate it from time to time anyway and it really didn't bother me other than a rash here and there, etc. Now, I can't seem to get away with anything if I accidentely get into it- I definitely... -
When I ate Paleo before I literally kept it as simple as possible. Eggs and sometimes homemade paleo sausage for breakfast, meat and veggies for lunch and dinner and fruit for snacks. I'd also make a mix of raisins and walnuts and take those with me where ever I went. I think the simpler I keep my menu plans the easier it will go for me. I'm just nervous...

Hi there, I had a bad weekend. I glutened myself on purpose, over and over again. It was like "well, I've already done it, I'll have this too..." . Stupid stupid me!! Grr... I'm ready to make ammends though. I ate paleo for about 2 or 3 months once while living with my mother who was doing the same thing. It was amazing, I felt SO much better, and I lost...

ARCHIVED Every Thing Was Gluten Free!
jitters replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, honestly I don't know what year I am! I started college in the fall of '97 of University of Idaho, went there for three years, took a couple years off and got married, had kids, and am now trying to finish up at BSU. I think I am considered a Junior but I am 29 and am going slower than I would like because of the strain it puts on my family. My husband... -
ARCHIVED Every Thing Was Gluten Free!
jitters replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do shop at the Co-Op once in awhile. I haven't lately just because we haven't been down in that area for awhile. Its such a toss up because Jake's is all gluten free but more expensive and the Co-Op is a bit cheaper and I get a discount there with my BSU Student card but the parking is horrible and its always packed inside. I'm not going to complain though... -
ARCHIVED Every Thing Was Gluten Free!
jitters replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I live in Emmett, its a small town so I have to do most of my shopping in Meridian/Boise. I guess you could say I'm pretty much asymptomatic when it comes to gluten so unless I eat it every day all day I can't tell I've gotten into something. My mom is very sensitive though and has eaten at Louie's a lot and has never had a problem. They even brought her... -
ARCHIVED Every Thing Was Gluten Free!
jitters replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, another Idahoan on the forum! Thats great, I'm mostly a lurker but have been to Jakes Place numerous times. Its great to have a store that you know everything is safe to eat in. Did you also know that just down the road (going west) is a restaurant that serves gluten free pizza and pasta? Its Louie's Italian Restaurant and its *really* good. They don... -
ARCHIVED Silly Question I Know But I Will Ask Anyway
jitters replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Just wanted to let you know that I had that same problem when I was about 22 years old. My hip clicked when I walked with every step. It seemed to be getting worse and worse and it got painful too after awhile. I moved closer to my mom who is gluten free and we started eating better and exercising. Something weird happened too- I quit clicking! I figured... -
Sounds like classis gluten responses to me. For me, my acne only goes away if I stay away from dairy. They say acne isn't caused by food, but staying away from dairy has been a miracle for my skin. I also use Toms of Maine soap and even though I have dry skin, it doesn't irritate it. Good luck!

ARCHIVED My Eyes
jitters replied to wwebby's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I haven't noticed this with my eyes, but my mom has been gluten free for 11 years and talks about it all the time. She swears her eyes have gotten better, and her prescription has changed for the better about 4 times now. I'm not sure how long it took her to adjust. If you wear contacts or glasses I'd be sure to go to the eye doctor regularly so your prescription... -
ARCHIVED Weakness/fatigue Question
jitters replied to motif's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am just at the recommended dose right now, but am thinking about kicking it up a notch and seeing if that helps. Honestly, I think I need to re-vamp my diet too. Its not JUST a lack of vitamins for me, its also what I'm eating. I ate "paleo" for 2 months a couple years ago and have NEVER felt so great in my life. It was amazing! I ate meat, fruits, veggies... -

ARCHIVED Weakness/fatigue Question
jitters replied to motif's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I took RiceGuy's advice and began supplementing with Magnesium. Boy is there a difference!! I had such major fatigue that I felt like I had narcolepsy. I've been on Magnesium for about 6 days now and am almost feeling "normal". I haven't had as much fatigue and where I used to have joint pain and nerve issues is much better, I can barely tell its there. Its... -
ARCHIVED Fuze
jitters replied to newceliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I emailed them a few weeks ago and got the usual, CYA response saying the ingredients are gluten free, but they can't guarantee against cross contamination. I still drink them and haven't had a problem but I'm not that sensitive. Hope that helps! -
CCM- While I've never actually gotten that advice from a doctor, my mom and I always switch from coffee to Black Chai Tea, then to Green Tea. We always use the Stash brand. The black tea has a little more caffiene in it so its an easier stepping stone to then go to green tea. While tea might have caffiene, its still not near as much as the coffee which I...

Thanks Tom! I think I am going to go soy free, and give it a month at least. It can't hurt thats for sure! I'm just hoping that its not like gluten and its hidden in flavorings, etc. Ugh!

Oops, in my post it should have said its NOT the creamers or sugars in the coffee. Its JUST the coffee itself that bothers me. Of course I've never tried decaf... Looks like I'm going to have to research Tannins and maybe even switch to decaf for a bit, then quit that as well. I've quit coffee before numerous times and both times it has taken 2 full weeks...

I have the same problem with coffee. For me its the the creamers or the sugars. Its literally just coffee no matter what brand or whether its brewed or instant. It makes me grumpy as well. I'm so addicted that its like beating my head against a brick wall. I know it bothers me, but I keep hoping that its something else and it won't bother me "just this time...
