  1. I am still trying to figure out the difference between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, if there is any. Can anyone answer my question? I know that they can share common symptoms and that the treatment is a gluten-free diet for both. I was wondering whether or not someone with gluten sensitivity is at risk of developing lymphoma, and all the other...
  2. My daughter is on a gluten-free diet so I send her lunch to school. Lately it's been a PB or sunflower seed butter sandwhich everyday. I did mix it up a little by using waffles to make the sandwhich this past week, but I would like to give her a little more variety. I would appreciate any suggestions. I seem to have run out of ideas. I also send her...
  3. My husband went to a GI doc that is supposed to be very knowledgable re: celiac disease and he did a CBC, celiac panel and chemistry profile, today the nurse called him and said everything was normal, call again, if he has any other problems. The reason he finally decided to go to the dr was because of the stomach issues he was having and because his hematocrit...
  4. We think my daughter and my husband may have celiac disease, we started the gluten-free diet this summer as recommended by her pedi and had positive results with the diet, both have had positive results. My husband has an appt to see a GI doc later this month and someone suggested I share my daughters celiac panel results with you all, since they were inconclusive...
  5. my daughter has only been on the diet for a couple months and it has made a difference in her health, but i do worry about how it will affect her socially, i don't want her to feel stigmatized. I don't like saying gluten-free DIET, because, I don't want her to think that she is fat. But I try not to make a big deal of it, and because her dad is on a gluten...
  6. My daughter will be in kindergarden this year and i will be sending her lunch for the first time, last year she was in pre-k and ate what was there, it was during her first year of school that she started with symptoms, mucus in stool, bloating, frequent bowel movements, and forceful belching). she started her diet this summer and what a difference, so now...
  7. My daughter just made five and she is also on a gluten-free diet, so I made her cake with Pamela's chocolate cake mix, there is a recipe on there for a chocolate butter cream frosting, which i used as filling and i made a butter cream frosting which I dyed purple with food coloring, I ordered princess cake toppers on line and it was a hit, everyone went back...
  8. My daughters test were inconclusive, but my pedi suggested we try the gluten-free diet this summer, she has had a positive response. We think my husband may have it to, and he has had a harder time going gluten free, but he said the other day, that all his life he ate tons of gluten and it did not bother him very much, now since he has been gluten free if...
  9. ARe hewbrew national hotdogs gluten-free? I read the label and thought they were, but not sure? Also, my husband and daughter are on a gluten-free diet. He says that since he has gone gluten-free he feels like he is more sensitive than ever to gluten, has anyone else had this experience? also, my daughter is taking swimming lessons and both days so far...
  10. I am new here too, so I don't have that much info to offer, I just wanted to say not to beat yourself up for not following the diet, it is hard to follow especially with a little one. And the inconclusive results make it harder to have a real reason to follow it. I think for the ones who are dehydrated and suffering with diarrhea it makes it much easier...
  11. My daughter is on the gluten-free diet and when she was not on it she had a tremendous amount of gas, at times her stomach was so bloated that she had difficulty breathing. She would burp with such force, it was very loud and forceful, since she has been gluten free she rarely passes gas or burps, and has not c/o difficulty breathing. I think it's great...
  12. Thanks for sharing your ideas with me. I really wish there was a support group that she and i could attend, i've researched this, the nearest one if 2hrs away. i wish that my daughter could meet other children who have to be on a special diet too, so she doesn't feel like she is the only one. I have thought of some of the same as you. but also: tyson...
  13. we are new to the gluten-free diet and i have gotten so many ideas from this site! thanks for sharing. I have been compiling a list of foods that I can fix for her lunch for school and would appreciate any ideas. I am also creating a list to give to family members so they know what my daughter and my husband can have, there are always so many temptations...
  14. i am so glad someone mentioned this, because today I picked up a bag at the store and eventually put them back, because i was not sure if they were OK. My daughter has just started the gluten free diet this summer and she loves marshmellows, I wanted to get some to roast for when we go camping in the next week or two. She and her dad will be glad to have...
  15. his symptoms are many years of having a "bad stomach" most recently he has had stomach pain, diarrhea, which have both improved when he stays gluten-free. a while back he was eating oatmeal every morning for breakfast and after a couple weeks of this everyday around 1pm he would be bloated and have diarrhea, he thought he had become allergic to it, he does...
  16. she does not, we did some testing but was inconclusive, so pedi suggested to try the diet and so far it has helped. it's so frustrating to not have the answers and I'm leary of any further testing because it's truamatic, costly and from what I've read often not reliable
  17. I've read that people with celaic disease can have tooth enamel defects, but I think this was in permanent teeth. my daughter had cavities a few months after her two front teeth came out, by six months after they errupted we were getting crowns on them, she was seventeen months old, it was a traumatic experience for all ! Has anyone else had this issue with...
  18. we believe my husband has celiac disease, and several months back he had an EGD done, for reflux I think, I forgot why, and the doc said he had esenophilic esophagitis, he said this is common in patients with allergies, and gave him an inhaled steroid to swallow. I was just wondering if this is could be something related to celiac, and if anyone else has...
  19. this is often how my daughter does, she goes to the bathroom several times a day, and when her stomach is upset, like when she has had gluten, she says, "my stomach hurts, but my poo won't come out". only on when she started with this problem, I brought a stool sample to the pedi, they tested it and I remember they said it showed split fat, and the pedi...
  20. From what i have read, it seems like many children that present with symptoms of celiac disease, are experiencing diarrhea. well, my daughter has not had this, instead she has abdominal cramping and visits the bathroom often, but not with diarrhea, instead she has mucus in her stool, sometimes it's just mucus that she is passing, once my husband wiped her...

    ARCHIVED Gi Dr In Louisiana

My husband is suspected of having celiac disease and he wants to get tested, by biopsy. Does anyone know a good MD in Louisiana? Thanks for your response
  22. Ok, I'm sure there are a million reasons why no one has done it, but why hasn't someone opened up a gluten-free restraunt? If one in every 133 people have this disease even thought they may not know it, it seems like people would eat at chain of gluten-free restraunts. People love to be trendy, why not start a new trend, a gluten-free food chain! Even...
  23. my daughter cried so much with colic when she was a baby and she was breastfed for 2.5 yrs. once we eliminated dairy, she cried a lot less, but i also had to cut out sweets, pastries, etc. Now we think she may have celiac disease. Looking back at some of the things she reacted to, this makes more sense to me now. If you are hoping to breastfeed, you...
  24. we think my husband and my daughter may have celiac disease so we on following the diet for the summer, to see if it helps, so far is has. I'm happy and sad about that. My question is about apple cider vinegar, is it gluten-free? For a while my husband was consuming this daily because some old man told him that he is never sick and he drinks this daily...
