  1. I have had problems with yeast for 2yrs now and I can usually keep it under control by taking grapefruit seed extract and taking good probiotics daily. any time my yeast gets out of hand, like if I have sugar, i end up with vaginal yeast infections. I also have on my hands what I have been told is eczema, but I met a lady at the health food store that said...
  2. I see others mentioning books that have been helpful, most are fairly inexpensive, but you can suggest your friend go to the local library, they should have some books related to celiac disease, gluten intolereance etc. and also should have internet access that she can use for free. The more she can learn the better she can deal with things at home, and...
  3. I just bought that mix myself and I do have a bread machine, but I mixed it by hand, covered it with plastic wrap in the pan to rise and then baked it, it was good! I loved freshly baked homemade bread, you just can't beat it with store bought types, especially when it's gluten-free. gluten-free pantry also makes a yankee cornbread mix that I plan to use...
  4. Help! I have severe eczema on my hands and I have tried soo many things and nothing seems to help. does anyone have some great treatment for eczema?
  5. I have horrible eczema on my hands and I'm not sure what exactly triggers it, probably the soap at work, the cat (I'm allergic), dry air, gluten?, dairy?, anyway I am always looking for better soap and skin moisterizers (I know I spelled it wrong). today I cam across Dakota free products that are free of gluten, parabens, chemicals, etc. and I would like...
  6. do smarties contain gluten? I hope not , because my daughter has been loving them and eating them, I went thru all her candy from holloween, but I left the smarties, didn't think they had gluten. does anyone know?
  7. We have been gluten-free for about 6 months and sometimes I still don't know what to fix for meals, but even when we could eat whatever, I often had this problem, I think everyone does, but being gluten-free does make it harder. I will tell you some of the things I feed my daughter. Vans gluten-free waffles with pure maple syrup, or with a nut butter for...
  8. My daughter was first tested through prometheus, by serum celiac panel, I did not choose them, we just had the lab work drawn and it was sent there. It cost us $700, we have insurance, it did not pay and i'm not sure why, her results came back as probable, it said that she required further testing, the pedi told us the results were inconclusive and that...
  9. I am looking for others in lafayette, louisiana (or in the area) who are gluten free for whatever reason. My daughter who is 5, has been diagnosed with gluten intolerance, the rest of the family is also gluten free, since gene tests show we both have genes for celiac/gluten intolerance. I would love for her to meet other children that are gluten free, and...
  10. i understand how you feel, my daughter has been gluten-free for 6 months, but we just got her results from enterolab this week and the cold hard facts saying that she has to be gluten-free for life just about made me cry, not to mention all the other possible medical conditions that go along with it. it is very overwhelming for parent and child, but hang...
  11. I am about an hour away from baton rouge, and we are planning to attend the next meeting in nov. Her enterolab results also showed that she is having an autoimmune reaction to dairy. She does not like dairy, except for chocolate and occasionally ice cream. I can't take those away too, esp. not right before halloween, but I will try to lay off of them....
  12. well we got my daughter's results from enterolab and she does have gluten sensitivity and has genes for celiac dx, so maybe she has this also. she was out of the normal range in everything but nothing extreme, but they said that she should be gluten-free for the rest of her life. this is not what she wanted to hear but it is no use to dwell on it, I will...
  13. I usually don't want my kids to have too much candy either, but lately I do keep snack size hershey bars and peanut butter cups in the house because I don't want her to be deprived. we also have M&M's sometimes but I have been not real happy with those type snacks because of all the artificial colors and flavors and other undesirable ingredients in...
  14. my daughter takes dancing and her instructor usually gives them a treat after dancing, usually a sucker, sticker, tatoo, etc. well last week she gave them sugar cookies and the first thing my daughter asked was if she could eat it, and I had to tell her no, also my 2yr old would want it, I knew, so i suggested she give it to her friend, and she did, but...
  15. My husband wanted to post a question asking if people ever get false results from a celiac panel, because his was negative, but he is still having problems and has had a positive response from following the diet for only a couple weeks. I told him that I thought that people are often told they have a negative panel, then later they find out they do have...
  16. I really don't know about getting the kit overseas, but I'm sure you probably can. You can go to the website enterolab.com and contact them to see if they will.
  17. Hey Virgina, I don't know when you posted this, since I have not been here in a while, but I am happy to answer your questions. I did go to enterolab's website, I looked at it for a while and read as much as I could I wanted to make sure it was a reputable lab, because others here have talked about their experiences I felt better about it. Also it's frustrating...
  18. my daughter is 5 yrs and has been gluten-free for 6mons, she was somewhat like this, very irritable even as a baby and from the time she was 3 mons my pedi said she was stubborn, I think she is a little, but so am a I, but Ihave definately seen a difference in her behavior and my sons since they are gluten-free. She is so irratable to the point of tears...
  19. I know, I was so angry yesterday, and frustrated because both of my kids have been sick lately, that I told my mom and my husband that if someone brings gluten in my house I am going to grab it out of thsir hands and stomp on it like a crazy person and then throw it in the trash can, I said that ought to make them think twice about bringing it into the house...
  20. Hi, I hear your frustration and I spend many days frustrated too, my daughter is 5 and has been gluten free since june 07, she has had great response to the diet, we still don't know whether or not she has celiac or not, but I really believe she needs to stay gluten free. I am just hoping that as more people learn about celiac and the ill affects of gluten...
  21. OK my daughter is on a gluten free diet as per her pedi, blood work was negative, we are waiting on enterolab results and my son has been mostly gluten free, well lately my mom is staying with us and she is non-compliant with everything and she things my kids are deprived because they are gluten free, which, my son does get gluten when my daughter is at school...
  22. well, today we sent my daughters specimens (stool & dna) to enterolab for testing. In my heart I already know that she needs to be gluten free, but my husband and I feel like we need a test to tell us that. We have been compliant with only an occasion slip up, no sunday she went to sunday class with her little brother and she had 3 girlscout cookies...
  23. thanks for your suggestions and good luck with your baby!!
  24. You see this is what I thought and I'm no doc, but we went to this particular dr because he has supposedly been so helpful to others with celiac and at diagnosing it. We were referred by someone who leads a celiac support group, so I had confidence in him, now we are paying for a test that really was not done correctly, I thank God for some docs and others...
  25. Another question: My husband also saw a GI doc and had a celiac panel done because he also as well as his family has symptoms of celiac that improves with his diet, and we were so sure his lab results would com back positive, but the doc said they were negative. Now he had been following a gluten free diet for a while, few weeks or so, but I know he cheats...
