  1. I was diagnosed just recently but I can trace my first symptoms back 13 years. It started with nerve pain (like electricity) in my arms and really severe "out of my body" floating sensations when I was 25. That was eventually diagnosed (SIX YEARS!!) as pernicious anemia. Four years prior at 21 I had a severe viral infection lasting a week. It was a scalp...
  2. I had numbness in my face and soles of my feet. I also had the electric tingling in my arms. That was how a neurologist figured out I had super low b12. I started on shots and it got much better. I didn't realize how many numb places I had. Unfortunately she didnt figure out I had celiac disease. I had to wait five more years for that. I am hoping...
  3. Hi all, This will be my third trip to Tucson but the first time with as a celiac. We love Parrilla de Suiza (might not be spelling that correct) I know they have delicious corn tortillas but I wonder if anyone else has spoken to them. Our room has a kitchen so I'll go to Trader Joe's and Sunflower for goodies but I would like to go to this place. ...
  4. Glad to see your post today! I hope your dr can give you some help. Monica
  5. I got a great response from Bob's Red Mill today. The regional manager called and talked for about fifteen minutes on how they educate the retailers that carry their gluten-free products. He was extremely courteous and said that calls from consumers helps make the case for placement. Then I got a terrific surprise! He asked if he could send me a sample...
  6. Hi Walter, I'm sorry for you. It is good you can say something about it. Do the people in your life know about how you feel? I imagine you are newly diagnosed? If so, it would be a good idea to make sure your iron and b12 levels are not low. These can cause depression, they do for me for sure. I don't want to beat a dead horse and maybe you've...
  7. Ha ha! When I gave my neighbor some semolina and barley!! I told her, "Here's some poison, umm I mean semolina and barley!" We had a good laugh about it. When I saw that at the store that's what I thought to myself. It helps to laugh at the ridiculousness of being previously known for my (ahem) excellent baked goods. Poison I tell you! Poison!! M
  8. I went to another local grocery store for the first time since being diagnosed. The first thing I do, of course, is check to see if they have gluten-free stuff. Imagine my horror when I find right between the gluten-free bread mix and gluten-free pancake mix VITAL WHEAT GLUTEN!!! Where is the head smacking smiley? It was the same thing in the flour aisle...
  9. Hi, My in-laws buy that stuff at a bulk foods place. I've seen it online from bulk suppliers. Look for popcorn cheese. I've also found it at Wal-Mart in a small can that looks just like the blue box. It is with the canned parmesan cheese. I don't know if they have Cabot cheese in Canada but they make a some called Cheddar Shake. It isn't orange though...
  10. You know, I feel like I've finally made it over my biggest hurdle! I've been "sick" for 13 years. I've chased down so many diagnosis' and had so many tests only to be told they couldn't find anything. I know my story is sadly quite common among people with celiac disease. I have a wonderful husband and the three smartest kids in the world I am ready...
  11. So, as I was getting dressed this am I was reading labels. My shampoo, conditioner and mask all list wheat something in them. I bet you all are going to tell me what I already know.....they've got to go. I just bought two new bottles! I need to find out about my beloved pink&green mascara as well. Sorry to be a whiner. I promise I won't do...
  12. This has been so helpful to me! The analogy from gfp made it so clear to me. Now I've been gluten free for two days. Today is the first day I haven't woken up queasy in a long time. I went by myself and did some grocery shopping at the health store. I did have a brief pity party for myself when I realized what a change this will be for me. I'm okay...
  13. Hello all, After 13 years of chasing around what was wrong with me I finally got a blood test for celiac disease. I found out yesterday it was positive. Today I'm feeling more relieved and hmmm, empowered I suppose. At least I know what is wrong (and I'm not a hypochondriac nor do I have MS or diabetes) Here is my question for you all. My family...
