  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today

  2. Beverly, as has been stated here before, a clear premise of the SCD diet is that it helps move out parasites and bad bacteria from the intestine as part of the healing process and the whole point of SCD. So we do consider this on topic. Its discussed in BTVC, the book we are basing our diet on. Liz, it does take some time to adjust! Be kind to yourself...
  3. Bea, its wonderful that you are progressing so well. The basic cabbage juice recipe I am using is on www.pecanbread.com 3 C cabbage, 1 3/4 C water. The first time let it sit 3 days, no probiotic needed, but you can add some acidophilus if you want. After that, make it fresh everyday and add 1/4 C of the previous juice. 24 hrs from the 2nd batch onward...
  4. Pele, that's great you like the cabbage juice. When I dilute it to drink I like it better, but its okay straight too. Did you notice improvement from the S. Bourdarii?
  5. I have the brainfog but not the migraines, sounds miserable. Ali, thanks for the leptin info, its interesting. It makes sense in another way for me in that I bloat more toward the end of the day. I wonder if water input should be shifted as well?
  6. Yolo, I agree with Ali in terms of it coming down to what works for each. My sense is that with your immediate improvement on yogurt you may be able to introduce things more quickly than some of us, at least I am hopeful for you! For me the crux of the matter about stevia is what is the chemical composition and can my very compromised digestive system...
  7. Jan I've had the same reaction for a long time about fermented foods. However, to my big surprise, I find the cabbage juice quite palatable, it is especially easy to handle when diluted. Michelle, that's great news. Seems to me that a shift in the gut motility could take a bit of time to settle. I'm going to further explore the differences between using...
  8. Bea, I haven't researched stevia so I'm only mentioning that I think it is on the not okay list. Usually that means Elaine researched the composition and found it to be too high a ratio of the wrong kind of starch, or too much dissaccharide. But I can't remember; it's probably mentioned on one of the web sites. Sometimes she says its not okay but the explanation...
  9. Bea, that's great news about the yogurt! The 24 hr process removes the lactose which may be a factor in your tolerance. I'm wondering if rather than a strict candida problem, you've had a general imbalance in the gut flora. Some of the herbs you mention are mucilaginous which are contraindicated on SCD. Seems like you know yourself and the herbs well...
  10. I know you are really restricted, but you might give Elaine's protocol for constipation a look. Its posted somewhere on www.pecanbread.com as I recall. What are you doing for probiotics? That's really important. I've cut back on yogurt recently and am using fermented cabbage juice, which is actually quite palatable. Adequate probiotic may help with...
  11. Hi Pickles, welcome. Wow! The WHOLE thread!! LOL 4 months on SCD is still a bit early in one sense. The first year can be still a bit rocky with flares and improvements kind of unstable, I'm told by people who have been on this for awhile for various GI problems. My doctor is in Portland and is very good however, is only taking new pediatric (autistic...
  12. Cindy, soy not allowed on SCD so most of us here are avoiding that. I knew soy was a problem before starting SCD, too.
  13. Liz, that's just great. Hopefully what we've learned will be helpful to you and your son ( and all of you) will see some great progress.
  14. Michelle, I do 3 cups of cabbage and 1 3/4 C of water, blend it well, add 1/4 C of my last batch of juice. I put it in a quart jar at room temperature for 24 hours. Then I strain out the juice and discard the pulp. I do a fresh batch of cabbage every day. It fills my quart jar to 1-2 inches from the top. You are supposed to have at least an inch at the...
  15. Bea, welcome! Its nice to see you here. Open Original Shared Link I'm wondering if saccharomycesboulardii might be of particular help to you? Sherry
  16. My secretcurse, I think what you describe is not an uncommon experience for celiacs. SCD has helped a lot of folks. I'm not seeing a particular theme in the sensitivities you mentioned, so am not sure what to suggest. However, it could be useful to do a trial off all the sugars and starches, that's what could be throwing you off. With your trial...
  17. Open Original Shared Link This is Elaine's post about kimchi, hopefully this will help you. I do the cabbage juice, as it is much easier on my system to not have all the fiber. I have C typically, so the prevailing wisdom would be that I need more fiber. But I have found the opposite to be true. Sounds like there could be a common "inert" ingredient...
  18. Jan, I can sympathize. At times I do feel better when not eating and not taking any meds or supplements. Not always though. From your list, the almonds would be the hardest to digest. After my recent experience testing almonds and having a major reaction, I'm sensitive to that information When my children were small, we lived in an area where viral...
  19. I'm thinking that there must be a reason you are considering SCD--some symptoms? From the perspective of SCD, the sugars and starches (including potatoes, rice and some beans) are not broken down, so perpetuate the gut damage. Its a matter of timing when you re-introduce these foods. There are some safe beans on SCD. One of our thread members does...
  20. I've cut way back on dairy since starting to use the fermented cabbage juice for probiotic food. Unfortunately I still have enough various symptoms from various causes that it is truly hard to discern a mild reaction from something. I haven't noticed improvement cutting back dairy or problems adding it back in except once or twice mild bloating after...
  21. Liz, I don't have children at home, but I think it would be doable. Give yourself some time to become accustomed. The meat and vegetables could be SCD compliant, for everyone. Sauces in your recipes might be more challenging, but you can start the trial period with more simple fare like roasted meats or ground meat patties. You can serve your pasta or...
  22. Yes it is very hard to do on the road, though not impossible. If you go to the same areas all the time, you might learn some safe restaurants. For example, I once went to a Mom and Pop place and it was almost empty. Since they weren't busy the cook steamed salmon and some veggies for me, didn't put anything on them. They brought me butter, salt and pepper...
  23. Welcome, mysecretcurse, I find the yogurt easy to make, but many do find it overwhelming at first. You don't need a yogurt maker. Just a way to keep it warm. I've been creative about that. My current method is a small hand warmer plugged in under a large pot with a warm water bath. My yogurt is in plastic 1 qt containers down in the water bath. I...
  24. Jan, that's great news. Pickles sound yummy but I'm not much of a dill person. Maybe I'll make sweet pickles or some relish . It would be nice to have something to put on my ground beef patty. I'm going to retry my chicken carrot soup in a day or two. I'll limit it to 1/2 C twice a day and see if that's okay before eating more.
  25. Well, Jan, its a possibility. I've had things tested a couple times a year, and it is looked okay but my good flora on the low side still. Of course the abx is a factor. I'm currently considering that this could be thyroid related. So I'm staying off almonds for now, will test carrots next week. Then hold for my next doctor appt. Sherry
