  1. Nice... an excuse to eat other fatty foods! Sounds like an excellent experiment. Haha. I'd live it up and eat something else that you haven't had a long time.
  2. At first I would get stomach aches and end up in the bathroom for several hours. I also suffer from stomach bloating from actual gluten, although not from cross-contamination. All in all, the same symptoms that I had prior to diagnosis. After about 5 months of being gluten-free I first experienced a different reaction: a warm feeling which spread through...
  3. Have you been eating a relatively healthy gluten-free diet? Because my boyfriend (who is gluten-free but doesn't have celiac) and I eat relatively healthy meals of meat, veggies, fruit and diary. We both still feel disgusting when we eat greasy food and we're fairly certain it's because our bodies just aren't used to all the grease anymore. Of course...
  4. I don't mind eating out every once in a while - at familiar restaurants where I've talked with the manager. However, traveling still makes me nervous. Last weekend we were traveling to see a hockey game and I had assumes we could grab dinner at the Outback Steakhouse right next to the hotel (Gluten-Free menu so that isn't scary). However, we were running...
  5. I notice the same thing at times - more right after I was diagnosed than I do now. I started checking my blood sugar and found that at the times I felt "spacey" my blood sugar was low. Turned out changing my diet wreaked havoc on my blood sugar. Now that I'm more comfortable with the diet, and eating more variety, I have much more control over it. Anyway...
  6. For people with a medical flex account through their work, you can usually claim the different through there and it's a lot easier. There is no criteria about % of income and you still get the price difference tax-free.
  7. Jamie, The first couple weeks were the toughest for me. I didn't eat much of anything except fruit and then I had problems controlling my blood sugar. On this site, there are lists of safe and unsafe ingredients. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-43107361981.b3 Take this list, go through your pantry and fridge and start collecting...
  8. I understand your frustrations. I don't go out very often, but when friends or co-workers go out I feel obligated to go once in a while. I feel bad that it takes longer for me to order, and I get depressed that I'm paying so much money for plain meat and steamed veggies while they are all ordering delicious-sounding items. Just last week we went to a nice...
  9. I cruised on Carnival last month and it was wonderful! I warned them in advance and they made sure my waiter, dining room hostess and chef all knew about gluten. Between dinner and dessert each night the hostess showed me the menu for the following night. She knew about ingredients in almost everything and I was able to eat fruit and usually some sort...
  10. I'm in Huntsville. I haven't been able to reach the contact person from the csaceliacs site so I haven't met anyone else here with Celiac. I've found gluten-free stuff at Garden Cove near downtown Huntsville. Also, Kroger has some things among the organic isle. The Fresh Market on Airport Rd has fantastic produce as well as various gluten-free products...
  11. So my question to all of you who don't eat bread anymore: What do you eat for lunch? I work so it isn't like I can prepare myself something during the day. I can't count on having leftovers all the time. I like being able to rely on a good 'ol sandwich when I'm running late in the morning... what types of things do you all eat that are light and easy...
  12. Just wanted you to know that I had a positive experience as well. There are good GI's out there! My family physician sent me to Dr. Brasco in Alabama after vitamins and iron pills didn't help my anemia. Dr. Brasco looked at my previous blood work, and previous irritable bowel problems, asked about my family heritage and history and was the one to suggest...
