  1. thank you SO much for the reply! as you say, no matter if i get a negative biopsy, if i go gluten free and feel better, then that is all that i need -- i guess that is the whole point anyways -- to feel better! i feel like i'm having heartburn -- is that normal after an EGD?
  2. so i finally got my EGD done (and for anybody worried about having this procedure -- it was a piece of cake w/ sedation!) -- i'm slightly disappointed b/c the doctor only took 4 biopsies (he originally told me he was going to take 7) b/c he said that everything looked normal -- can they really tell if you don't have any damage from just looking?? i had...
  3. Hello! For those of you who get mouth sores as symptom of gluten ingestion -- what exactly are they like? I've been getting these blister looking things in the back of my throat mainly, but have also popped up a couple of other places in my mouth. They will "go away", but as soon as I eat, they flair up (enlarge) for a while, then will go back down...
  4. I actually had to wait 5 weeks b/c there was a malfunction in one of their refrigeration units due to a large storm that passed by -- so I had to resubmit my sample. They were really nice about it though and when I explained I needed the results before my GI appointment, they made sure I got them in time. After my resubmittal -- I think it was just over...
  5. So -- back from my GI appt. I went through a bunch of questions and an exam -- the doc came back and basically said he thought I had "IBS" -- which is what I figured I would get (he read it from my primary doc records) -- He was going to do a colonoscopy, blood test (which I asked which ones and he said TtG and EmA -- which I was glad to hear since my primary...
  6. oh ya -- I also have anemia (as does my sister)
  7. I'm not aware of any history of Celiac in my family -- my father has some of the same digestive issues (diarrhea) that I have, although, probably not as bad -- he has diarrhea probably once or twice a week where I have it much more frequently (I have other symptoms too). He had a prick test that said he was allergic to wheat a long time ago, but he doesn...
  8. I finally am going to have my first consultation w/ a new GI doctor today and am very nervous. What kind of questions would you guys recommend I ask? I have printed off a copy of all my symptoms and plan to just give it to him and let him go from there. How should I mention Celiac? Should I bother to show him my Enterolab results? I'm so worried...
  9. haven't been diagnosed yet (GI appt. next week), but these are my symptoms: chronic diarrhea for the last 18 years, nausea, gurgling stomach, bloating, occassional abdominal pain, urgency, gas, lightheaded & sweaty before BM, anemia, low WBC, chronic fatigue, joint pain, mouth sores, tingling in hands & feet, back pain, night sweats, cramping in...
  10. thanks for the reply -- in hindsight, I realize I should've coughed up the extra cash -- my insurance should cover the endoscopy procedure -- I went through Enterolab b/c I had been "diagnosed" w/ IBS for 18 years -- I've been reading so much on this board about Celiac and everybodys wonderful information I have gotten here that I really started to think...
  11. i didn't get the gene test from Enterolab -- i probably should've, but I couldn't bear the extra $120! My primary doc just ran Gliadin antibody -- IGA and IGG
  12. Hi -- I finally got my results from Enterolab: Fecal Antigliadin IgA 23 (Normal Range <10 Units) Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 16 Units (Normal Range <10 Units) Quantitative Microscopic Fecal Fat Score <300 Units (Normal Range <300 Units) Ok -- question -- I have a GI appointment next week and was going...
  13. Just wondered if other people have this happen -- I get these points where I get sick to my stomach and I start to sweat really bad and feel like I'm going to pass out and then I have to run to the bathroom (or else) -- the sweating and dizzy part worry me, the "D" part is an every day occurence (gosh can my GI appt. ever get here??!!)
  14. i'm on prescription iron pills for anemia and it has made my diarrhea 10x worse -- i've tried 2 types -- one severely constipated me, the other increased my diarrhea -- i opted to keep using the one that caused diarrhea b/c i couldn't stand the stomach/back cramps from the other. good luck and hope you find out what's causing your problems!
  15. thanks for all your good wishes -- ya'all are soooo nice!
  16. So -- I just had to tell somebody this b/c it made me so happy and so sure I am on the right track (even though my blood came back negative) -- I am still waiting for my GI appt. and my results from Enterolab -- but I was chatting w/ my mother last night and we were talking about my dad -- he has similar "problems" as me w/ the chronic "Big D" but has never...
  17. flipping out -- just sent my enterolab off and realized that i did not sign the shipping form giving consent -- does anyone know if this will mess up them not sending it out?!
  18. Hello! Sorry if this question has been asked already -- I read through a few post about enterolab, but didn't notice my question. Also -- sorry for the question -- but I guess it's not like ya'all haven't talked about questions like this before! So here it goes. . . . I have a GI appointment set up, but it's not until August so I decided to go and give...
  19. that's kind of what i'm worried about -- that if i just try the diet and don't see some improvement right away that i would just abandon the thought and go w/ -- well, i must not of been celiac. i'm leaning towards just going and getting the biopsy done -- i've just never had much luck w/ doctors! Thanks to all of you for your replies!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Hello! This may have already been a topic, but I wanted to ask how many people out there have had negative blood results but went on to get a biopsy and it was positive? I keep going back & forth w/ the biopsy thing -- if I really want to deal w/ it all. Whoever wants to share, it would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank You!
  21. feeling very bummed -- got a call from my doctor who left a message and said i had to get back w/ them b/c they had my test results and some info for me -- so i was thinking -- ok, my test came back positive for celiac and they are going to tell me what to do next. i finally get in touch w/ the nurse and she tells me my iron levels are up slightly (been...

not sure if related, but my D is always 100x worse when hormonal -- so your menopause may have a bit of effect? hope you feel better soon!!!
  23. that is so weird that you posted this b/c i was just thinking the same thing -- i've had sores on the roof of my mouth off and on now for a while -- like it's gotten burnt or something. gosh -- the more and more i read this forum, the more and more i think i do i have celiac! hope you feel better!
  24. so i'm going nuts waiting for my doctor to call w/ my blood results -- it's been a week (a very long one)! how long does it usually take for the results to come back?! all of my previous blood work has come back w/in a few days. sorry. . . . . . venting!
  25. i am not gluten-free yet -- waiting on results & my books i ordered -- but i'm w/ you on the "big D" first thing in the morning. happens every day -- i get up, take my iron pill w/ my cup of OJ and w/in a few minutes i'm running for the loo. not that i helped any w/ this message, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone!
