  1. I just read this article in the paper a little while ago. I just don't understand who would be "overusing" a gluten-free diet? I don't like always having to think about what I'm eating or what I'm going to eat next. Life was so much easier (albeit painful) with gluten. If I could eat a chicken pesto pizza from Pi without getting violently ill, I would. I...
  2. Sorry if this sounds silly but I've lost my fullness radar since going gluten free. What I mean is my stomach normally hurt because I've always had stomach cramps, gas and bloating after eating. I mentioned to my mother the other day I'm so used to having a stomach ache or heartburn pretty much all the time that it seems foreign to not have one. However,...
  3. You've almost written my story. I've had IBS, eczema, an incorrect diagnosis of palmo/plantar (?) psoriasis, tested for Lupus, depression, stress, fibromyalgia blah, blah, blah. I've been given steroids, steroid creams, somthing kind of cream for psoriasis (if it gets better it's psoriasis, worse, it's not) every anti-histamine on the market, anti-depressant...
  4. Thanks everyone for all the tips and advice. I tried the orajel for a couple of nights and it helped. It's been less than a week and I know I have to be patient but I swear, I'm starting to feel a little less itchy. Maybe it's pyschological but my feet look like they are starting to heal just a little bit and I shaved my legs the other day without wanting...
  5. Thanks everyone who responded! I'm going to go buy some Orajel after work and try it tonight. Hopefully it works because last night at 2 am I was contemplating having both of my feet amputated. Probably not really funny but I've been trying to keep my sense of humor about the whole thing to keep from going insane.
  6. I thought I had celiac disease several year ago because of severe IBS, fatigue and joint pain. My doctor at the time thought I was crazy and told me I needed to take anti-depressents for the IBS and told me it would "calm me down" I finally convince her to give me a blood test and she condescendingly did so even though "I had no symptoms" because having diarhea...
  7. OMG! Yes! For the last 2 weeks my upper stomach (under the ribcage) felt like someone was inside my stomach stabbing me with knives. It felt like a big knot of gas that wouldn't go up or down and the only thing that would help was laying on my stomach and massaging it. Horrible. It hasn't happened for a long time but I went off my gluten-free diet (I have...
  8. The doctor's office called today and said all the test they ran came back negative and that there is nothing wrong with me (other than they think I'm a nutcase). I asked if they could tell me what the test for celiac actually and what were the levels or numbers on it and I was told all it said was "negative" so I definately don't have celiac disease and suggested...
  9. Thanks Tom! I wanted to clarify something. In the past, I have been diagnosed with clinical depression but am not currently depressed. However, since I have been diagnosed with depression before, I think that this doctor did not want to take me seriously. It's easier to just hand someone pychiatric meds instead of trying to find out what is really wrong....
  10. I'm not going back to that particular doctor but I'm wondering if it would be inappropriate to mail her this article? Open Original Shared Link Not really to one up her but to educate her so the next person that walks in the door isn't treated like they are insane. It's from the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness and basically reaffirms everything...
  11. If you have friends with celiac disease, why not get a referral from one of them for a doctor who can help you? Unfortunately, one is Montana and the other has a doctor that is nowhere near me. This GI that I'm going to is supposedly good. His name is Weinstock and he was listed either here or another celiac site. To the person who suggested Enterolab...
  12. I actually have that book and I almost brought it with me today and decided against it at the last minute. She's the closest thing I have to a regular doctor but I've only met her 3 or 4 times for things like sinus infections, so I don't have a real relationship with her. At least I don't need a referral from her to see the GI because it might not ever...
  13. This is unbelievable coming from an MD. Is she older? That's the only "excuse" I can think of. Back in the day, doctors were taught that Celiac is a rare children's disease. Sadly, you might have to fight for the answers you deserve. Actually she's younger than I am. I would put her around early 30's. I asked an doctor acquaintance of mine if he had...
  14. I went on a gluten free diet for several months because my "IBS" was getting so bad plus I have other symtoms (joint pain, depression, rashes) and within days (literally) my stomach cleared up to the point that I rarely even passed gas (from having constant diarhea and bouts of unbelievable gas). I then decided that I needed an "official" diagnosis so...
  15. No one denies lactose intolerance but most people look at me like I have 2 heads when I explain to them that I can't have gluten. I even had someone tell me last week that I was mistaken, I was too old to be gluten intolerant because it was a "child's disease" and I would have known it before now and NO ONE gets diagnosed in their 30's. I explained...
  16. I've always had horrible, miserable periods with the most painful cramps ever. I've been off gluten for about 2 months now and when I had my last period, I barely even noticed. I had slight cramps, didn't need to dose myself up with Ibuprofen and take to my bed and the mild cramps were gone in about 12 hours as opposed to the usual 48. I wasn't mean and crabby...
  17. Well, I've been battling lipomas for about 17 years (I have multiple familial lipomatis (sp?)) and am definately gluten intolerent. A gluten free diet has done wonders for me (eliminated years of diarrhea, gas, bloating, stomach cramps that have ended up in the emergency room, life long eczema as well a painful periods). I doubt they will make my lipomas...
  18. Thanks for the link. My friend is from Bozeman and she told me recently that her stepdad could no longer have gluten (she didn't know whether or not he had Celiac disease) so I'm hoping for a good resource when I'm there. Also we will have our own kitchen so I can cook and grill etc. I know my friend is dying to go to the Naked Noodle which obviously won...
  19. Thanks all for the good advice. I decided to go the cooler route and went to Trader Joe's today and stocked up on good stuff so I should be set for the road. I also bought some rice pasta, marinara sauce, roasted red pepper soup, bread mix to take with me so that I have stuff to cook up right away once we get there in case they want to order up pizzas or...
  20. I'm new here but I've leaving on vacation in 3 days with another family. Once we get to our destination, I should be fine. We are staying in a house and there is a really good health food store nearby. However, we are traveling for two days from St. Louis to Bozeman, MT and I just know it's going to be fast food hell and slim pickings. I'm going to...
