1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

2. I am allergic to shellfish and was told by the allergist that it's the iodine in them that I'm allergic to. I can eat iodized salt, but I cannot eat shellfish or have iodine used on cuts. When I had my C-Section they just used plain alcohol instead. They also just use plain alcohol when I have bloodwork done. As for glutamic acid, it's considered...
3. You are not imagining that potatoes are helping you, and it's not a coincidence. Potatoes always make me feel better so I just googled "potatoes + stomach" and found this great article about the healing properties of potatoes. Open Original Shared Link The potatoes are probably absorbing some of your acid and helping to sooth those inflamed linings...
4. My symptoms seem to be evenly mixed between neuro and gastro. I've got peripheral neuropathy and have had dizziness as well as fainting and/or seizure once. My nerve conduction study, MRI, and bloodwork all came back normal. I've also got reflux and have lost 35 lbs in 5 months, but not the typical celiac symptoms of frequent diarrhea and/or vomiting....
5. I'm a seronegative celiac. I had an endoscopy done for GERD to see if I have a hernia. The gastro did random biopsies while he had the scope in, and imagine my surprise when they called me with the results! We weren't even looking for celiac disease! My symptoms have been 1) weight loss of 35 lbs in 5 months, 2) peripheral neuropathy, 3) GERD, 4) a "lump...
6. I'm living proof that going gluten-free can result in a quick drop in weight. My first week gluten-free I lost 6 lbs. As an experiment after a week being gluten-free, I ate gluten for 24 hours. In that short amount of time I gained 4 lbs. I've been gluten-free for 2 days since then and have dropped that 4 lbs. Gluten definitely affects my weight!
7. My doctor also said that everything looked normal when he did my endoscopy, but my biopsy showed inflammation/damage. My IgA and tTg tests both came back normal, so I'm a seronegative Celiac. My doctor wants me to go back on the 18th, but I have no idea what for. (I'm guessing genetic testing is up next.) My symptoms have been: 1) a really annoying cough...
8. I thought this might help some people like me who are newly diagnosed & used to eating out a lot. I must admit that I've cut way back on my eating out due to fear of contamination, but I have found quite a few gluten-free menus for chain restaurants online. Just go to the company website and look for either "nutrition/nutritional info" or "menu." Some...
9. I take my vitamin every night when I give my son his. If I forget, her reminds me. He likes getting his Flintstone vitamin, so he remembers better than I do most nights.
10. I am so relieved after reading this thread. I lost 6 lbs my first 7 days of being gluten free. I was starting to get really worried, but this thread has reassured me that there's nothing sinister going on in my body. Pre diagnosis I had been losing 1-2 lbs per week (sometimes less). I lost 31 lbs in 5 months before being diagnosed, but I was in a near...
Thanks for the info!!!
Any time! I was just diagnosed a week ago, so I have been scouring the internet for any and all info I can find. I had to change my...

Sickness Du Jour

I was just diagnosed 6 days ago, and already I know what you mean! I was feeling a little light headed tonight and wondered if I had eaten something wrong. I was brave enough to try eating out for the first time since the DX(Carraba's has a gluten-free menu) but wondered if maybe I wasn't supposed to have the salad dressing. The gluten-free menu doesn...
