Have you found rice cheese that actually melts? The one I've tried just sits there like plastic.

Thanks, ciavyn. I like your idea. I also appreciate the support!

ARCHIVED Blood And Biopsy Results
horsegirl replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with all of the others who posted - it doesn't matter what you call it, you still have to avoid gluten at all costs. My blood tests were all normal, as was my intestinal biopsy. My stool tests were positive for gluten, which I'd already figured was the case from a trial run of being gluten free. I did a "gluten challenge" prior to the blood tests... -
I'm not sure if this is the right area for this topic, so bear with me. Moderators, feel free to move this elsewhere if necessary. Has anyone used monolaurin (one brand name is Lauricidin) to help with issues such as immune system problems? My new D.O. suggested using it to kill off microbes that might have infested my body including viruses, bacteria...

Heading to Lake Tahoe, CA soon, & am hoping for some new suggestions on yummy & safe places to eat. Last time, we went to Freshies, & fell in love with that place. Talk about informed staff! They made an amazing meal (including fish & chips, & some quinoa cakes that were wonderful). We're planning on going there again, but would like ideas...

What does citric acid do to you? How did you know you were intolerant? You're right - that stuff is in everything! Is there a form of Vitamin C that doesn't contain citrus in some state? (maybe a dumb question - just wondering!)

Ahorsesoul, No, I wish we had horses, but live in a subdivision with only a back yard. I love them dearly though, & have a friend who breeds Friesians, which are amazing animals!

missy'smom - thanks for the great suggestions. Where did you find the mini cans of safe tuna, salmon, & chicken? Those sound like a great idea for protein, which is what I'm always looking for.

Thanks for the ideas, AHorsesoul. Sometimes I think that if it were "just gluten", it would be easier, because there are so many gluten free menus out there now. However, I've been to countless restaurants where I literally can have nothing because everything they have is prepackaged or marinated, or basted, or something. I've asked for plain baked potatoes...

I too enjoy cooking, & have many food intolerance cookbooks to choose from. However, with working full-time, raising a young child, & doing almost all of the housework too (I'm married, but not to a partner who does things equally), I have been finding meal planning & preparation more of a stresser than an enjoyment. It's now become a chore...

I've now been gluten free for 3+ years, & soy/casein-free for 2-1/2 years. Some of my health problems have improved, but some are still worsening. One thing I really struggle with is feeling left out when it comes to meals. I do all of the cooking at home to keep safe, but whenever we travel elsewhere or go out, I feel left out. I can eat in only...

ARCHIVED Yogurts And Milk
horsegirl replied to Heidismom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sometimes people need to eliminate casein (milk protein) for awhile too, due to the intestines needing time to heal. And others are intolerant to casein altogether & have to give it up permanently. My symptoms didn't improve that significantly until I learned I was also casein & soy intolerant, & then eliminated those as well. Good luck! Sometimes... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Ketchup
horsegirl replied to kimmeycat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree that the Annie's Organics ketchup is very good, & safe (Annie's labels all their foods), plus is free of the additives & corn syrup that aren't good for us anyway. I also use Trader Joe's ketchup, which is on their gluten-free list, & I've never had any problems with it. Good luck! It does get easier. -
ARCHIVED I Think I Was Glutened
horsegirl replied to horsegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks! I thought about it being a short-term bug too, causing the fever, but then again, the fever only lasted about 4 hours total, which seems short for any cause I can think of. The rest of the symptoms seem to point to gluten, since with the DQ-1 gene type I get the neurological symptoms, as well as GI. Anyone else with this type of experience... -
I use the Pepto tablets too (just make sure you have water ready to drink it down - they started dissolving on my tongue last night! ) They seem to relieve the pain & nausea pretty well.
-
I've been strictly gluten-free for 2 years now, & have other food intolerances as well. A couple of times I've been glutened by accident, & suffer from the muscle/joint pain, & neurological symptoms from it for a few days to a week. This was different though, & kind of scary. Last night I started feeling achy in my muscles & joints...

ARCHIVED I'm Starting My 5 Y.o. On A gluten-free Trial
horsegirl replied to horsegirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm curious to see why you say I'm celiac? Just wondering, because since my bloodwork & biopsy were both negative, my doctor diagnosed me with "non-celiac gluten intolerance". I don't know that there's truly a difference between the 2 titles, & I know that with my neurological problems on gluten, I'll never eat the stuff again. Like I said, just... -
ARCHIVED Urgent - Butter, Fruit Mashups, Vitamins
horsegirl replied to horsegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've heard back from Challenge Dairies, & they state that their butter is indeed gluten free, & no risk of cross contamination either. Revolution Foods wrote back, & said while the product is gluten free, & they are careful to clean between batches run on the lines, there's always the risk of cross contamination that could affect somebody... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Peach Cups
horsegirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter loves Whole Food's "Everyday Value" fruit cups, such as peaches or mixed fruit. She's starting a gluten-free trial today, so I'm labeling everything in the house, & came across some of those fruit cups. The ingredients don't indicate anything potentially containing gluten, yet the product is not on their Gluten Free listing from our local... -
ARCHIVED Urgent - Butter, Fruit Mashups, Vitamins
horsegirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am hoping someone can help me clarify if the following are gluten free: 1) Challenge Whipped butter (tub) 2) Revolution Foods Fruit Mashups 3) Trader Joe's kids chewable vitamins (in the "bear" shaped bottle) 4) Any brands of kids' juice boxes. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Fluoride Tablets - Ours Has Been Recalled
horsegirl posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've had my 5 y.o. on fluoride tablets since she was very little (drops prior to that) at her pediatrician's & dentist's suggestions. I've just found out that Ethedent, which she's been on, is under a voluntary recall by the manufacturer, so I need to find a new one. Anybody have any suggestions on brands they use that are gluten free? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED I'm Starting My 5 Y.o. On A gluten-free Trial

I guess when I post so late at night (west coast time) it gets lost in the new posts! Anybody have any suggestions or advice? Thanks again. -
ARCHIVED I'm Starting My 5 Y.o. On A gluten-free Trial
horsegirl posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance (thru Enterolab as well as elimination diet) 2+ years ago. I also have other food intolerances. I'm managing quite well, & have been able to reintroduce eggs. My 5 y.o. DD has had chronic constipation since age 2, as well as frequent tummy aches & lots of gas. She seems to tire easily, has some anxiety/mood... -
ARCHIVED Reintroducing Other Foods
horsegirl replied to horsegirl's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks for all of the information. It gave me some good things to think about. It's hard because prior to the Enterolab results, I didn't have any awareness that things other than gluten & soy were bothersome to me. -
I am gluten, soy, & casein intolerant, & have had pretty good success at Chipotle. My local store knows me by sight, & change their gloves immediately! I can only get a burrito bowl, no beans or rice (both have soy in them), carnitas, fresh tomato salsa, lettuce & guacamole. Once in awhile I do get the rumblies later on, but I agree that it...
