I got a new bread machine and it has a recipe I really want to try in it but it calls for soy flour and I can't have it. I was hoping somebody would have a sub I could use. It already calls for white rice flour, potato starch, and tapioca flour. Oh, it is a country white bread not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks Sarah

I am trying to find a good frosting for my dd birthday cake. I tried one with coconut oil, powdered sugar, milk (rice milk) and vanilla. It did not taste very good. I don't know if I did something wrong or if someone has a better recipe. Thank you so much.

I want to make my dd a 1st birthday cake to enjoy but have to find a recipe that is gluten, dairy, soy, corn and nut free. I know this is a lot to eliminate and that is why I am hoping somebody will have an idea for me. Thanks Sarah

I would like to make the following recipe but need to replace the soy flour. Any ideas on what I could use? 3/4 cup of melted butter, 1/4 cup of honey, 1 cup of brown sugar 1 teaspoon of vanilla. 1-1/2 cups of brown rice flour, 1-1/2 cups of Hagman's gluten-free flour mix , 2 tablespoons of soy flour, 1 teaspoon each of xanthan gum, salt...

ARCHIVED Ab Still Destended After 8 Months Gluten Free
sjust replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree that it could be corn. My dd reacts strongly to corn. If you decide to go corn free let me know and I will give you some advice. Someone told me corn makes gluten look like childs play and I have to agree. Good luck Sarah -
I am looking for a gluten, dairy, soy, corn and nut free graham cracker recipe. I know, this is not an easy request but I am hoping somebody can help me. Thanks so much.

The GI told us to absolutely wait until 6 months to start my dd on solids. It was really hard because she really wanted food. She would yell at us while we ate and it got to the point that my husband and I ate in shifts so that she didn't see us eat. I agree with others that you probably do not want to start with rice cereal. We started with avacado,...

My DD is now starting to eat more solids and she wants to feed herself more. With my DS I gave him things like Cheerios and puffs but I can't give those to her. I was wondering if there is a gluten-free version of these things or other suggestions on what to give her. Thanks Sarah -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Go From Here?

We have not ruled out a heart condition, in fact they have not even looked at that. I should ask about it. What would you recommend I request? We did go rent a scale today so we will be doing pre and post weights for a while to see what she is taking in. I figure if she is taking in enough ounces per day we are going to go sit at the dr. until they do... -

I would like to thank everyone for their support and especially Electra for the great advice. How old is your little one? You mentioned testing for prealbumin and creatine. How are these tests done? Blood, stool, urine? As fas as I know we have not done those but I will definately ask that they test for them. Also the kidney test, how do they do that... -

I am currently off gluten, dairy, soy, corn, eggs, citrus, nuts, beans and gassy vegetables. When I first went gluten-free her bm got better but only for about a month. I have been working really hard to find even trace amounts of gluten and ended up changing most of my haircare products to accomodate this. Still the bm is not normal. How do I get the... -

We went to Stanford for a second opinion on my daughter. She is almost 7 months old and is now down from 12 pounds to 11 pounds 8 oz. They told us a very similar story to the G/I we had been seeing which was she looks healthy but obviously something is not right. They want us to put her on Neocate for half of her feedings instead of bf. I am having a... -

I am very interested in what you are going through. I have a 6 1/2 month old who is also labeled as failure to thrive. She was gaining all be it very very slowly but now she is losing weight and is down to 11.5 pounds. They are unsure as to what is causing the problem. She will eat solids if offered although they are very runny, but they do not seem to... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test For Celiac
sjust replied to sjust's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A dr. from Stanford Childrens Hospital actually ordered the test. We were seeing Dr. McDonald who is a ped. GI in Sac. but really don't like him. He pretty much refused to help us and just kept ordering one test over and over again. Good luck with your tests. Sarah -

I am currently trying corn free for my daughter, didn't realize that the thyroid meds have corn in them. As an FYI any dark colored diet soda has corn starch in the carmel coloring. Didn't realize that till I started calling around I thought it would just be in regular soda but no. Sarah -

We were given a lab slip today to have a celiac serology test done at the Prometheus lab in San Diego. My daughter is 6 months old and has never directly ingested gluten. I have been gluten-free for almost 4 months. Do I need to expose her to gluten either directly or through my breast milk prior to this test for a true result? Thanks Sarah -

We are struggling with the same issue. In the beginning going gluten free fixed the problem but now it is back and we are on our way to Stanford University to figure out what is going on. I agree, start with milk, cut all types out including whey and casein. Any irritation to the intestine will cause the slime consistancy and it could be something else... -

The Mylacon non-staining formula is gluten free. But it has to be non staining. It helps my 6 month old. You might also check on Mylanta. I don't know if it is gluten free but has same active ingrediant. Sarah -
I am trying to figure out if potato powder sold at the Korean market is the same as potato flour or if it is the same as potato starch. They sell potato starch but I don't see potato flour and I wonder if this is because it is labeled as potato flour. They do this with white rice flour. Thanks. Sarah

ARCHIVED Son's Upcoming Blood Draw
sjust replied to Darn210's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We recently had to have blood drawn on my 3 year old son. I expected it would go bad as he does not like shots one bit. I could not have been more surprised. I agree that the butterfly makes a huge difference. It doesn't look anything like a shot needle so that is helpful. If he wants to watch let me. The lab tech told me most kids do great until they... -
ARCHIVED Question On Scoping
sjust replied to sjust's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dairy was definately a problem even the smallest amount caused scalding on her bottom, soy makes her spit up, she does not seem to tolerate corn although exactly how is still not clear, beans made her very gassy. The nuts we are off because my son has a cashew allergy so they said stay away from them and frankly it is the easiest. I have started adding... -

I live on rice as well. I use rice flour for tortillas and waffles and eat lots of rice with meat.
