ARCHIVED Enterolab--if You Had To Choose A Test, Which One
bakinghomesteader posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here's the thing. I CANNOT afford the whole panel. I can only afford ONE of these-- 1. Transglutaminase 2. Fecal fat score 3. Antigliadin If you had to choose one to get, which one is the most important of all three. Please don't tell me to scrape up some money for the panel. If I could I really would. We are just barely making it right... -
ARCHIVED Can Going Gluten Free Unmask Underlying Autoimmune Disease?
bakinghomesteader replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, Praise God. It is not lupus. I have just plain osteo arthritis. Karen- I never heard of tumeric capsules. I will have to look for those. I wonder if I can take them with the Celebrex? I am also going to eliminate most dairy for a while. I was just having it on my cereal. I bought some soy milk I used to drink. So maybe that may help... -
ARCHIVED Can Going Gluten Free Unmask Underlying Autoimmune Disease?
bakinghomesteader replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is all very interesting. I will wait and see what the blood tests say before I eliminate anymore. I am taking Celebrex now and it only takes the edge off the pain. I still have pain in my hands, etc. I felt good in the beginning of gluten-free, but then this all started. So it could be food related I guess. Thanks for the info. Bakinghomesteader -
ARCHIVED Can Going Gluten Free Unmask Underlying Autoimmune Disease?
bakinghomesteader posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Since being gluten free, I have been diagnosed with arthritis, anemia, and now they are checking for lupus. I am 31. Geez. I shouldn't have arthritis. They are checking also that it is not Rheumatoid. The arthritis has reared up since gluten free. I seem to have been in MORE pain since gluten-free. I didn't know if I have all this and now it is unmasked... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Diagnose...
bakinghomesteader replied to AJR's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, this sounds like what I have. Myasthenia Gravis. With Myasthenia Gravis you can't tolerate the heat well. It makes you weaker. Hot showers and hot tubs are a no no. It can cause respiratory distress. Cold showers are fine. Also, you fatigue more as the days wears on. You can have ocular MG or general MG. I have general. My breathing... -
ARCHIVED King Arthur Flour Buttermilk Waffles
bakinghomesteader posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I always made the King Arthur Flour Buttermilk Waffles when I was not gluten free. I have not made waffles since then, until the other night. I decided to use the recipe and substitute the flour cup for cup for the gluten free mix. I used a homemade mix someone posted on here. 3 c rice flour, 2 c potato starch, and 1 c tapioca starch. They were exactly... -
ARCHIVED I Have A Question
bakinghomesteader posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Has anyone had the ImmunoCap blood test? Since I have been gluten free for like 5 weeks, would the test for wheat allergy show up? I know the gluten thing would be neg, right? My husband is wanting me to be tested now. He thinks there might be more than gluten. Thank you. Bakinghomesteader -
ARCHIVED Left To Self Diagnose
bakinghomesteader replied to tabbi68's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't really know what to say, but I wanted to add something about the Tostitos, too. Everytime I eat any variety of Tostitos, I get sick again. I tried the all natural ones and the baked bowls. Both are gluten free, but everytime I get sick. I don't know what it is except maybe it is cc. Just thought I would let you know. -
ARCHIVED Question About A Recipe
bakinghomesteader posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a recipe for the choc chip peanut butter brownies and it calls for 1 cup of flour. Now is that a flour blend, or just rice flour? and how much if any x. gum do I put in? Thanks. I am having bible study tonight and need to make dessert. Bakinghomesteader -
ARCHIVED Hydrogenated Oil And gluten-free Baking
bakinghomesteader replied to NewGFMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use butter or canola oil in place of margarine or someother oil. We eat all natural, so we don't use hydrogenated oils either. My bread turns out wonderful. I made up my own recipe. After several attempts, I found a combo that works for me. Bakinghomesteader -
ARCHIVED Flat Top Grill In Bloomington, Il
bakinghomesteader replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
cgilsing---I actually live by Decatur out in the country in Oakley Township. I was glad that Flat Top was there. It sure did feel good to eat what everyone else was eating. We eat out every Sunday night after church with some couples. That is challenging for sure. Been glutened by cc already. Thinking of bringing my own next time. Bakinghomesteader -
ARCHIVED Newbies: How Is Everyone Doing?
bakinghomesteader replied to Emily Elizabeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I am 2 weeks into the gluten-free diet. I feel really good. I challanged myself last Friday and had a reaction. Since then, I have been recovering from that gluten and am starting to feel good again. No more gluten for me, no sir. I did have a little pitty party about it. Got all upset and depressed. But I am ok with it now and realize it is what... -
ARCHIVED Flat Top Grill In Bloomington, Il
bakinghomesteader posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, this place was great. It is a make your own stir fry. They have two seperate flat top grills, one for regulars, another for allergy people. Our waiter came with me every step and got gluten-free sauce from the back (they wouldn't keep it on the same station as the other stuff) let me taste it and then mix two different sauces for me. The grill was... -
ARCHIVED Well, I Went And Did It
bakinghomesteader posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been gluten free since 6/5 and did wonderful and first several days. Then, had some problems with cc I think. But, I really felt good. Bloating went way down, pain went down, skin looks much better, and this is weird--you know how you get "chicken" skin kinda on your butt cheeks (sorry), well since going gluten free, my butt cheeks (again sorry... -

bakinghomesteader replied to georgiagirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmmmm very interesting. As some of you know, I have been trying to figure out what has been making me feel bad the last several days. I didn't even think about this. I had the Santa Fe BBQ ones. They are soooo good. But, maybe that is what's bothering me. I will cut it out as well as some other stuff and see. Thanks for the info -

They say on the package that they are a celiac disease foundation sponser, but on the side of the box it says that the Nut-Thins are produced in a facility athat also makes products with wheat, soy, pecans, and hazelnuts? ARCHIVED I Have Belly Symptoms Today
bakinghomesteader replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the reply. I didn't have the urge to go. I just haven't gone. I am usually like that. For instance, before being gluten free I would not go for 3-5 days even a week. But after starting the diet, I was going 1 to 2 times a day normal consistancy. I just feel like something aggravated it now. It could be dairy, I never thought about that.... -

ARCHIVED It's Hitting Me...
bakinghomesteader replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I talked to my husband. He said he just wished we didn't have to talk about health all the time. I also have myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular disease) and have had some female issues as of late. I understand what he is saying. We talked this morning and I said what I had to say and he said he supported me and he didn't really want to talk about... -
ARCHIVED It's Hitting Me...
bakinghomesteader replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you all so much. You have helped me get through this day. I am so glad this forum is here. My husband called at lunch to see how I was feeling. He so much wants me to feel good. Like you all said, I think he needs to adjust too. He is one to worry about what everyone thinks, are we inconveniencing anyone? etc. Part of it for him, too, is...
