  1. it's Pollen substitutes. Patties and Powders, meant to boost production in the spring. Beekeeping supply store carry these things. I've seen brewer's yeast and soy among the ingredients listed. AND to save money beekeepers mix up their own, which is where i'm seeing the wheat flour.. and I'm completely dismayed by this practice! Just google "honey bee...
  2. I am a new beekeeper - and just learned that some people use supplements to feed their bees - supplements that could contain wheat flour, soy flour or brewers yeast or all of the above. So to answer your question - yes, it's likely in my opinion there could be gluten in your honey. I realize this post is from 2009 - but better late than never.
  3. My rash was caused by gluten. the rash is called dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) - it's presentation varies. Sometime like hives, sometimes one single lesion, always intensely itchy and get's worse at night. I went gluten free and the rash stopped itching and started healing. But ANY slip ups with accidental ingestion of gluten caused a re-appearance...
  4. If you don't get the diagnosis you are happy with go to another doc. Try to find a Celiac Friendly doc. OR you can do what i did and give up and just go gluten free. I didn't need a doctor to confirm that if my gas, bloating, migraines, depression, joint pain, rash, dry skin and brittle nails went away when i went gluten free that i must have celiac. ...
  5. i failed to mention that they are processed while still alive for 45 minutes in some sort of solution to "clean out" their digestive system - before their demise. I'm pretty positive that this is gluten - the owner of the company is going to investigate into it more deeply. THE LATEST - today i broke out with a rash on my back / I have DH... sooooo...
  6. I recently purchased some fresh water prawns - i have NO allergies to seafood or fish, btw. I was SO excited about trying them since they were farm raised with no chemicals or antibiotics. "all natural" - they were delicious as promised. I cooked them in garlic butter after peeling them. split them with my husband - he ate, I ate, three hours later I...
  7. well.. I know that I know this is DH - AND i've gotten my first mouth ulcer in three years.. i'm thinking there might be a chance there is a small amount of gluten in the "gluten free" bread i'm buying ... sigh.
  8. My husband and I just bought some chicken houses that hold 20,000 birds each - I have been having skin issues - face and body since i started working in the houses 3 weeks ago. I've been using a face mask for the last week I am in the process of finding out what exactly is IN the chicken feed that might be causing me issues. Oh.. did I mention i have...
  9. i have issues with a itchy scalp and hair loss! I also have DH - do you? my itchy scalp seems to be aggravated by sweating.. like wearing a cap in the summer while outside makes me sweat and then comes the itch... washing my hair helps relieve the itch. I have read that increasing water intake during this time may help - My hair loss occurs each time i...
  10. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! *shakes head* I don't think i would have allowed them to use that stuff. But obviously it was necessary or your doc wouldn't have used it. That rash should calm down - the longer you are gluten free the less effects you should have from accidental "glutenings" Hopefully none.. but if you are like the rest of us.. it'll happen. The...
  11. Your battle sounds so similar to my story!! You will be fine! Those things that you miss are insignificant because your health and well being are at stake! We all know how it is. The longer you are gluten free the more that you will realize what that toxic crap was doing to your body. My rash stopped itching within three days.... and slowly the rashy...
  12. i've searched and can't find any info on this.. and honestly would just like to know if someone else experiences this symtom I'm gluten free but of course - occasionally i get "glutened" - when this happens i go through a list of symptoms that string out for about two weeks.. one of the more annoying of the symptoms is a vaginal odor that only happens after...
  13. you HAVE to stop eating processed stuff with added salt!! no bacon , no ham, no chips after awhile from my experience a little won't hurt you but I think you have to deplete the iodine built up in your system. I'm sorry this isn't good news... but I'm pretty sure it will help you... eat only foods that you prepare yourself.
  14. Thank you for your reply! in the beginning of my quest to find out what was causing my rash, which took 8 mos of doctors, blood tests, doctors, more tests, doctors, biopsies -you get the picture. The endocrinologist that I saw because of my high thyroid levels actually told me that I was in the beginning stages of Hashimotos - he sent me home with synthroid...
  15. I'm just wondering - I have DH which is brought on by ingesting iodine My thyroid levels were high before I went gluten-free and lowered my intake of iodine When I add iodine into my diet - along with the DH I experience hair loss which is associated with thyroid problems. A lot of people with celiac disease also have thyroid disfunction - I'm wondering...
  16. i hope my reply helps you - I've not read through everyone's replies... maybe this is repetitive. I have DH and I understand the insanity.. believe me! I have been mostly gluten-free for almost two years with the occasional accidental glutening at first. I found out that it takes up to two years for the DH to clear while on a strict gluten-free diet. ...
  17. I thought it "was safe to go back in the water" meaning I THOUGHT that it would be OK to add iodine into my diet again - since I had been doing so good and since iodine is essential for proper thyroid function - and I was doing so good at keeping the gluten out - but maybe by keeping iodine out of my diet my DH symptoms were lessened during accidental glutenings...
  18. thanks for the information - it helps a lot. I've eliminated a few food products yesterday - I was better last night - You know how the itching gets worse in the evenings... right? Well no new lesions in two days - itching was minimal last night so we'll see. I'm being careful to only put into my mouth that which I know is gluten free - I also recently...
  19. No but I've heard about it - prednizone may do the same thing... but isn't dapzone hard on the liver?
  20. I read that post by me a little while ago and I know it is confusing... what I meant was - normally if I get glutened, it is over in a day or two. I came to the conclusion that this was something I was getting regulary into my system because it wasn't going away. And day by day it just gets worse. My DH symptoms have lessened in the last few days but not...
  21. thanks - I'm a little embarrassed about my reaction to Gemini's statement...it struck a chord and I kind of had a meltdown last night. I guess I really wanted it to be the filters...because I've exhausted all my ideas. I agree it's not the filters... as I've been without them long enough now and still having breakouts... I will go without dairy and see...
  22. Gemini, OK - I'm back! I have not once named the brand of filters... nor did I say that I was sure. I got on this site for help - support. You aren't offering support - as a matter of fact you and people like you make me look elsewhere for help. I'm not a pro on this and I'm still trying to find answers. I've had a major flare-up of my DH and it's really...
