ARCHIVED Some Heriditary Questions
vanillazeis replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
sorry, i didnt make myself very clear, i meant with a family history of being hospitalized for diahrrea. Well it's good she isnt expected to have a serious reaction to eggs, but still avoid them like the plague! I've read that the best chance you have of outgrowing a food allergy is strict avoidance. We avoid all my daughters allergens very strictly and she... -
ARCHIVED Some Heriditary Questions
vanillazeis replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
LOL isnt it funny to say lucky to only avoid wheat, eggs, peanuts and soy... I'm always thankful we still have eggs, not that we use them much, but it's nice to have to means to bake something decent. In your case I would be very thankful for dairy I think i would still test for celiac with the history of being hospitalized over diarrhea. Hopefully... -
ARCHIVED Some Heriditary Questions
vanillazeis replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah, they say that RAST testing is more accurate for food allergies and skin testing is more accurate for environmental allergies. I was just curious, because i suspect that Bayleigh's 4+ on the skin test was a false positive and actually more related to celiac then to an actual allergy. I dont really know if its possible for that to be the case, it might... -
ARCHIVED Some Heriditary Questions
vanillazeis replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was originally diagnosed as allergic to wheat, 4+ on the skin testing, maybe she is allergic, but she is biopsy confirmed diagnosed with celiac disease. We went wheat free at first, and when i started baking with oats (gluten-free ofcourse), and experimenting with cooking, i realized her symptoms got better, but then she started reacting to oats... -
ARCHIVED Kids + Asthma + Gluten?
vanillazeis replied to Lollie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh, im sure i havent eliminated all of her triggers... unfortunately they arent obvious enough for me to catch on. She was originally diagnosed with 13 food allergies before being diagnosed with celiac. wheat, rice, potato codfish, shrimp, peanut, almond, pecan pork, chicken banana, apple and lemon We avoid most of that still, just by avoiding... -
ARCHIVED How Long Do The Symptoms Of Being Glutened Last?
vanillazeis replied to Aidans Grandma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just wanted to say that i agree with Ursa Major, take him off of dairy and soy immediately. Definately Dairy. My daughter was diagnosed and went gluten-free, and about a month later all her symptoms returned. I called her dr and asked if i should remove dairy, because the ladies on here said i should. He said he thought Bayleigh was already dairy free, YES... -
ARCHIVED New Here, Not Quite Celiac But 2 Yo W/ Class Iv Wheat Allergy
vanillazeis replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, and welcome!!! I just wanted to say that before my little girl was diagnosed with celiac she was actually misdiagnosed as allergic to wheat... maybe she is allergic as well, but she does have celiac. Anyway, just wanted to say that before we cut out all gluten we weren't nearly as limited!!! If you can do rye, barley and OATS i would take advantage.... -
ARCHIVED Kids + Asthma + Gluten?
vanillazeis replied to Lollie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I thought my little girl's asthma got better when we first went gluten-free, but i guess it just wasnt the time of year when her allergies were bad. Her asthma is worse than ever, and she is 100% gluten, milk, soy, nut and fish free It's been alot better over the holidays. She got an ear infection, so she had to go on antibiotics... which also made her get... -

ARCHIVED Crazy Casein Confusion
vanillazeis replied to skikat's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our GI dr. made it sound like the dairy intolerance is only temporary. I will never again give my daughter a glass of milk, but i cannot wait for the day when my only concern when reading labels is gluten!!! We have recently discovered that after an occasional glass of soy milk my three year old daughter has also formed a soy intolerance. If i could go back... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want To Cry
vanillazeis replied to shan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know this has already been mentioned, but my daughter first became dairy intolerant, and just recently became soy intolerant. She has the same Bloated belly, extremely gassy, throwing up "celiac reaction" that she does to gluten, so im sure its damaging her intestines as well. We go back for our followup bloodwork in January, im dying to know what her numbers... -
ARCHIVED Should I Give Her Soy Milk?
vanillazeis replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is 3, and she was just diagnosed 6 months ago. We removed dairy right away, and after only giving her soy milk occasionally for the last month she has formed a soy intolerance. I wish i would have limited the soy better, and only given it to her when it was an ingredient in something rather than letting her eat soy yogurt and drink soy milk. Now... -
ARCHIVED Blah Soy Intolerant Now As Well
vanillazeis replied to vanillazeis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you everyone for your replies, im kinda lost on this whole thing. Im pretty sure it is soy, because she had been drinking a glass of soy milk everyday while i was in the hospital with her baby brother, and everyday when she would go potty it would be ALOT, plus ofcourse the distended belly and her saying that she has a bellyache. Since we have gone... -

Hi guys havent been around in a while, sorry for the long absense... i have a million excuses, but i hate texcuses, so ill skip that part My little girl (3 years old, diagnosed july 07) had the worst reaction the other night. Her belly swelled up like basketball size, she was in pain, burping, tuting, shaking, she was terrified, and she was throwing up... -

ARCHIVED Blood In Stool
vanillazeis replied to Virgie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, Virgie! My 3 year old was diagnosed in July, She had blood in her stools. She improved with going gluten-free, BUT the blood in her stools didn't stop until we went casein free a month later. My GI dr. always recommends his newly diagnosed celiac patients also go casein free. I dunno about it always happening when the weekend comes... maybe she is cheating... -

ARCHIVED Is Cheese Gluten Free?
vanillazeis replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are newly diagnosed, you might hold off on the dairy for a while. I thought my daughter was reacting wonderfully to the gluten free diet, until i made her casein free as well, WOW what an even bigger improvement! Good luck! -
ARCHIVED School And Coping With Pain
vanillazeis replied to PattiD2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with Ursa Major. My daughters GI dr always tells all of his newly diagnosed celiac patients to go gluten free AND casein free. I think it is always necessary. Atleast go casein free. If that doesnt help, i would definately look into entrolabs testing and see if it is soy or dairy, or what! good luck! -
ARCHIVED Public School Lunch And Celiac
vanillazeis replied to LuvMySon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I completely agree with you, i would never let my kid eat a school lunch. I dont even let her eat food her grandmothers cook. Everyone has a learning period with this diet, and i dont want my kid to go through the learning period again. I was just thinking that if you brought it up that every child is entitled to a hot meal, they would be way more willing... -
ARCHIVED Public School Lunch And Celiac
vanillazeis replied to LuvMySon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
this just sucks. i am so not excited for my 3 year old to graduate pre-k (8-12) and move on to all day school. My kiddo is in private school, and i grew up in private school, so i do not know alot about public schools, but isnt every child entitled to a hot meal? If so, tell them that... that they can either get a totally seperate set of pots and pans, and... -
ARCHIVED A Poo Question
vanillazeis replied to mcsteffi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I actually cant even get this one to eat any baby food at all!!! He is still exclusively breastfed. My GI dr. said the same thing as your pediatrician... introduce gluten at 12 months, and we will blood test him at 18 months. I've read that about waiting too long causing problems too... who knows. i guess we'll learn in 50 years that everything we did is... -
ARCHIVED A Poo Question
vanillazeis replied to mcsteffi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
i think a certain amount of that is normal, some things just dont digest completely... maybe!? than again im in the same situation. 3 yr old with celiac, 9 month old that's normal... so far... i think... what's normal?!?!?! lol i dunno i think i would ask the pediatrician, or maybe someone else on here can be more helpful! good luck! -
ARCHIVED Sooo Frustrated!
vanillazeis replied to vanillazeis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
thanks for the advice! The age to start getting a colonoscopy is 50. I think that's what you meant, i dont think there is an age to get an endoscopy. My husband is only 26, but i do agree that the colonoscopy is not a bad idea. i guess the problem is that i feel a little insuperior to waltz in and demand that my husbands dr (who happens to be the head of... -
ARCHIVED Sooo Frustrated!
vanillazeis replied to vanillazeis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for your help! My husband is a little stubborn, but i think he might agree to go gluten-free atleast for a few months as a trial. Both of my husbands parents have dirverticulitis, but they are both getting tested, so yay for that! I just dont know whether to put my husbands sisters through getting tested, when it's only their niece that has been diagnosed...
