ARCHIVED Soy Help
vanillazeis replied to BemLmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Bayleigh is allergic/intolerant to soy. Her allergist gave me cards from FAAN that i keep in my purse to let me know which ingredients contain her allergens. The soy one says that studies have shown that most people allergic to soy can safely consume soy oil and soy lecithin. We had already been COMPLETELY soy free for a month when i reintro'd soy oil and... -
ARCHIVED Mentions Of Gluten-free In Kids' Shows
vanillazeis replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
AWESOME! i hate how it's always negative mentions that intolerances/allergies get. There is a radio station in Dallas (i don't know if it's everywhere), and it has no DJ's it's all computerized and it plays random songs, but it's just about commercial free, and mostly just plays music. They do say little things in between songs sometimes. the other day... -
ARCHIVED Cronic Ear Infections
vanillazeis replied to raegansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
i agree to remove dairy immediately and possibly soy. I know asthma can run with celiac, are ya'll dealing with that as well? My daughter has celiac, asthma and multiple food allergies, and at our last check-up with the allergist a little survey thingy i filled out before her appt. asked if she had a problem with ear infections. She actually has had two this... -

I actually just saw that book at the book store the other day, i was wondering if it was any good... like you, i read everything i can get my hands on about celiac If your kiddo has something you might as well know everything about it... i dont understand people that dont read. Thats why i like these boards. You can assume that if people take the time to... -
ARCHIVED Things Got Better, And Now They're Not
vanillazeis replied to NewGFMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would remove dairy. Lactose is digested at the tips of the villi. If those villi arent there you're lactose intolerant. Being on dairy in someone that is first diagnosed with celiac can prevent the villi from healing. I would remove dairy immediately. Bayleigh's Dr tells all patients he diagnoses w/celiac to go casein free immediately. I kept Bayleigh on... -
ARCHIVED Nighttime Reactions

Thanks for your response... it's nice to know this isnt too uncommon. I always sort of wonder if something else is going on as well, since i never hear other people say their kids throw up. Watch out for McDonalds, their french fries do have wheat as an ingredient (and also milk and beef)!! -
ARCHIVED Nighttime Reactions
vanillazeis replied to vanillazeis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, that's pretty much what i keep thinking, that theres something about when she lays down she's not moving around, getting any gas out, and she just wakes up with this HUGE gas-filled belly, and throws up. It's really it weird, especially when i read about other peoples reactions on here. Thanks for the insight! -
ARCHIVED Nighttime Reactions
vanillazeis posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has celiac... positive blood work, biospy confirmed, but she does NOT have the "typical celiac reaction". When she gets gluten, or milk or soy it always seems like her reaction comes at 9 or 10 at night, a few hours after she goes to bed. Usually i put her in bed, she falls asleep (we still have a video monitor in there, because shes across the... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Get Started?
vanillazeis replied to ruthla's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's Delimex chicken taquitos that are gluten free... for some reason not all of them are safe, they told me over the phone that the chicken ones were safe but not with cheese. Honestly i would try to stay away from gluten-free baked goods during your trial. Most things just dont taste great compared to gluten, ive heard so many people say not to try gluten... -
ARCHIVED Breastfeeding And Elimination Trials
vanillazeis replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh I am so sorry. That's what i had to do with Bayleigh, and it sucked, but you'll start adding things back in pretty quickly, and you'll be able to figure it out! Bayleigh was also allergic to pork, chicken, rice, potato, apple. lemon and banana, so we had to do alot of taking out and putting other things in to figure it out. I recently had to start... -
ARCHIVED Can You Outgrow Gluten Intolerance?
vanillazeis replied to NancyJ's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would be VERY careful! Like you said, sometimes with puberty... so around 13 or so, symptoms will subside, but there can still be intestinal damage. If you arent sure he doesnt have Celiac Disease I wouldn't be doing any experiments on him. I know you can have milk and gluten intolerance, but milk intolerance is very common in newly diagnosed people with... -
ARCHIVED Red Marking On Face
vanillazeis replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Could they be hives from a different food? I've heard that food allergies can be common in people with celiac. From the people's signatures on here, i see quite a few that mention food allergies. -
ARCHIVED Breastfeeding And Elimination Trials
vanillazeis replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So the top 8 allergens are milk, soy, and egg (as you said), wheat, peanut, treenut, fish and shellfish. As i understand it corn is super common and just barely missed making the top eight. I would start with milk, i dont know how old your daughter is, but milk is the number one food allergy in kids under 1, and it is the most common for babies to react to... -
ARCHIVED Ttg 53.1 So Now What?

Oh wow, i didnt realize it had only been 3 months. Richard has a good point, it's probably just still elevated! Has it gone down from what it originally was? -
ARCHIVED Ttg 53.1 So Now What?
vanillazeis replied to Virgie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have ya'll removed dairy... does anyone know if that will affect your Ttg? I know my daughter has the same "celiac symptoms" with dairy and soy as she does gluten, i would think it would affect her numbers. Are you sure she isn't cheating at school or friends houses? I hate to even say that, but it would be so hard to not cheat when you are diagnosed with... -
ARCHIVED Is There Such A Thing As Gluten Free Playdough?
vanillazeis replied to chlobo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's very controversial whether play-dough will hurt a kid with celiac. I guess the argument is that they don't actually eat it. I asked Bayleigh's GI dr and he said "Honestly we don't know, I wouldn't even let her touch it" So, we avoid play-doh and have sent colorations gluten free dough to Bayleigh's preschool. It doesnt work as well as regular play-doh... -

ARCHIVED Hoping Her Son Grows Out Of It
vanillazeis replied to Worriedwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know my daughter has celiac and she therefore will never be able to eat gluten in her whole life. I understand, i really do, but there is still a small part of me that hopes or wishes that this was a misdiagnosis and that she is only gluten intolerant and does not have celiac. I know thats unrealistic, but i think that maybe like grieving a death that denial... -
ARCHIVED Distended Stomach Question
vanillazeis replied to chlobo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your welcome! That second post i made for some reason didnt post... anyway i was just going to say that i made my first post assuming that ya'll are completely gluten free. If you havent already you'll need to replace your nonstick pans, wooden spoons, and toaster. Call all of the foods she normally eats and verify the gluten status. It's really easy, just... -

ARCHIVED Distended Stomach Question
vanillazeis replied to chlobo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you havent already eliminate dairy. If you've already done that eliminate soy. If she actually has celiac, and not just gluten sensitive, she is lactose intolerant, lactose is digested at the tips of the villi, and in celiac those villi are damaged, or gone, so newly diagnosed celiacs are lactose intolerant. My daughter just recently formed a soy intolerance... -
ARCHIVED 9 Mo. Old Daughter--desperate For Help
vanillazeis replied to mom2stelly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From what you've told us I'd really start with an allergist rather than a GI dr. A hive like rash, or hives is a syptom of food allergy, not food intolerance. There is a pretty big difference. Allergies have the potential to be immediately life threatening, as in anaphylaxis. While celiac does have the potential to be life threatening, it's more of a long... -

I am probably the biggest breastfeeding enthusiast in the world, so my opinion is probably a bit biased I breastfed my first kiddo until she was 20 months, no problems. I have just recently put my almost one year old (1-12-07) on formula, and it was the worst mistake of my life, although i didnt have an alternative. I think if you are already seeing problems... -
ARCHIVED Some Heriditary Questions
vanillazeis replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Be careful about oats... normal Quaker Oats cannot guarantee that they are gluten free... I've read that in the US oats are a rotated crop with wheat, so they cant be sure that wheat didnt get in there somewhere... like you said, it wouldnt kill her if she got a little wheat, but if she reacts to regular oats you wont know if it is actually a reaction to...
