I am Catholic and I take communion. Fortunately, I am able to tolerate it once a week. I know with Catholics the pope has allowed Catholics to drink the wine only in mass. Unfortunately, for me my church does not offer wine so I am lucky I can tolerate the communion wafer. My friend who is a Methodist actually makes her own wafers and takes them to...

ARCHIVED Very Very Confused!Susan123 replied to Raelynnsma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I think I would look for more answers personally instead of just accepting it Your symptoms sound extreme and to accept celiac disease without more assurance is crazy to me. It could be something else and you could be wasting time. According to top Celiac specialists in this country, bloodwork alone is not enough for a celiac disease diagnosis. It takes...

ARCHIVED Son Just DiagnosedSusan123 replied to Heather's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Try this link: Open Original Shared Link They make cereal for kids that are Gluten Free. (Not all of their products are gluten free but it will say it in the top left hand corner) Their products are listed on their website. I personally like Gorilla Munch which is like a corn pops. They are also good for bread crumbs in meatloaf or as a topper...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Test Positive,Susan123 replied to Tia099's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I had a 104 and no damage/symptoms or other illnesses so unfortunately not everybody falls into the classic form. I think you are best in emailing Dr. Fine for clarification.

ARCHIVED Genetic MarkersSusan123 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Does anybody know the percentages with regards to genetic markers? For example, if you don't have either marker is it 100% that you don't have it. I know the test is only good in ruling out celiac but isn't there percentages for 1 marker vs. 2 markers?

ARCHIVED Cross ContaminationSusan123 replied to ashlees-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I guess it depends upon how sensitive she is to gluten. I am not that sensitive and get by with using the same utensils (washed of course). I do have a separate toaster/toaster oven.

ARCHIVED EndoscopySusan123 replied to abby82's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I'd go as far as to say I wouldn't waste my time with an endoscopy if I had been gluten free for 8 weeks. You need to be eating gluten to show accurate results.

I had Kidney stones last year on my 30th birthday. Happy birthday to me. Spent it in the hospital. Once you have them you will always have them. He said usually it is once every 10-11 years (now this is an average) Also, just because you have calcium buildup in your kidneys doesn't mean that they are going to dislodge and cause pain. I still have buildup...

ARCHIVED Did My Dr. Order The Right Tests?Susan123 replied to cornflake girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I agree. You need to ask for the Celiac Sprue blood test that test for IgA, IgG and Tissue Transglutimase. The tests you list above are helpful after diagnosis in determining if you are getting the right nutrients and that your body is getting enough iron. In other words, in determining your overall health but in not pinpointing Celiac.

Does anybody know of a gluten-free mainstream Body lotion for sensitive skin? Also a body wash? I have always blamed my lotions and bodywash for skin prone to breakouts but I wonder if it is because wheat was in them. I always seem to get little bumps on my stomach which ironically is where I start with my poof (sp?)

ARCHIVED Diagnoised Celiac But With No BiopsySusan123 replied to weebitts36's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I only know in my case I need confirmation. Too many other ailments can cause similiar symptoms. Yes I feel better but am I ignoring the real problem that could come back to haunt me 10 years from now. I also have a wheat allergy. So if I eat wheat am I damaging my insides or just having an upset stomach for a couple of hours. BIG DIFFERENCE. ...

ARCHIVED Permanent Heart PoundingSusan123 replied to marktwo2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I get what feels like my heart misses a beat then it speeds up and sounds like it is pounding outside my chest. I am not sure if this is the same thing but my doctor said the number 1 contributing factor to it is caffeine. He told me to cut it down to see if it made a difference. It worked for me. I drink one soda a day now and water the rest. I was...

ARCHIVED Igg Gliadin AntibodiesSusan123 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I am in the same boat too. IgA was 114 and Tranglutimase was 0. Biopsy normal. Who knows for sure right? I agree being gluten-free for 6 weeks will probably give you a false reading on the biospy.

ARCHIVED Best Store-bought Bread?Susan123 replied to soul04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I know you said you tried rice bread but I like Food for Life Brown Rice Bread. I have tried numerous ones only to gag everytime I swallowed it. Tasted like Sawdust. The Food for Life is better tasting when toasted. Also, I am not sure who makes it but there is a gluten-free French Roll that kind of looks like a big english muffin. It almost taste...

I am not sure of the exact reason but I found this excerpt from a medical forum. (see below paragraph) It can't hurt to try it. Also, look at your toothpaste that you are using. This website says that they believe all are gluten free and I have found that not to be true. I recently had teeth whitening done and I had to use a toothpaste that decreased...

Here is a thought. Do you use Tartar Control Toothpaste? Tartar Control toothpaste is FAMOUS for causing mouth sores. I used to get them all the time and then someone told me about it and I stopped. No mouth sores for 2 years!!.

ARCHIVED Diagnoised Celiac But With No BiopsySusan123 replied to weebitts36's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease to clarify above: The best way to diagnose Celiac is by taking several biopsies in the small intestine. This is done with an Endoscopy. The colonscopy gives the full picture.

ARCHIVED Diagnoised Celiac But With No BiopsySusan123 replied to weebitts36's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I have had a couple of colonoscopies in my life as well as an endoscopy. My impression from my specialist is that the biospy is taken in the small intestine because that is where the damage is most prevalent. They are able to see the nature of the villi to see if damage has set in. They often recommend a colonoscopy to rule out other intestinal damage...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free LipstickSusan123 replied to Susan123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Are the above hidden-gluten ingredients for all lipsticks/cosmetics? I went out last night and bought some lipstick. I went off a gluten-free list I found from a reputable source. Well come to find out that both that were supposedly safe had some of the ingredients listed above. Now I noticed that my hand lotion has an ingredient in it too. Urghh...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free LipstickSusan123 replied to Susan123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Thanks for all the info. It is really hard to find this info on the web! I like Neutrogena so I am going to try the MoistureShine Lip Gloss. Also, I emailed Revlon to check out the Colorstay. I don't wear lipstick everyday but I do like to wear it for special occasions and I don't want to feel bad on that special occasion because I used lipstick....
