  1. I personally stay away from all that stuff (except soy- Organic Tamari is yummy) unless the item is on the growing pile of lists I have. Sorry I don't have the links. I found most on this site. Maybe someone else can chime in. There are lists of common everyday grocery items already verified gluten-free. I alos got a list from my local Whole Fooods. The only...
  2. Those were the results. I've done a bunch of reading and I guess I have the DQ2 and DQ5. I know the DQ2 is for Celiac and I'm not sure what the DQ5 is about. Don't you have to have BOTH DQ2 and DQ8 to be celiac disease? It's all so confusing And by the way, my total IgA was normal......
  3. I avoid pestasides at all costs but not because of celiac disease. I've been eating (and feeding the family) local, organic whole foods for years. We live in the county with the highest breast and prostate cancers in the nation. The gluten conection is an interesting thought though. Wouldn't surprise me if it is in there.
  4. I got my HLA DQ2 and DQ8 tests and I'm not sure what they mean. I do have an appt. with my GI doc. next week but I thought I'd ask here first. Even though DQ2 and DQ8 were requested, the tests listed say HLA-DQB1 02 (DQ2) HLA-DQB1 05 (DQ5) Both have a *...
  5. My daughter sounds like your son. She too is 8. We have been 5 full days gluten-free and maybe I'm just wishing it to be so but she is a different kid! She did have a full blown melt down on day 2 but since then she's been almost manically happy, no even as much as a pout and for the last 2 days I haven't had to drag her out of bed. The doubter in me is thinking...
  6. I don't have quite the experiece you have but I have been lurking around these boards a while. From what I understand it can be really hard to diagnose young children. A lot of people here have used Enterolab- that's one idea for you. But to me it seems you should try going gluten-free. It was a rather scary task when I first started but I now find it's rather...
  7. I got the results of both my girls' antibody tests and they were negative in all counts. I'm still suspicious of my eight year old being gluten intolerant so we have started her on the gluten-free diet. So, I have a few questions. First, at some point should I have them re tested? My 11 year old is symptom free except for dental enamel problems and that...
  8. I'm A- and of European ancestory (French/ German/ Irish). It's an interesteing theory, though I don't see a connection in the two things. I'll have to read more about it
  9. I am fairly new to this but face a similar situation soon. I would call the resort myself and ask and let your SIL worry about her wedding. If you don't feel they can prepare a gluten-free meal with no cc, eat a big meal before you go and pack gluten-free snacks and eat them discreetly. That's what I would do but I'm sure there will be other opinions. Whatever...
  10. No, it says it right on the label-' contains gluten from barley protein at less that .002%' and to me that's not gluten free. Keep in mind this is not the stuff out of the fridge. I buy the shelved one so maybe it's something about that one. I check labels, but how do you all deal with the stuff that has 'spices' and 'natural flavorings'. If they are on...
  11. Last week I picked up the most recently updated Gluten Free list form my local Whole Foods. I was dismayed to see Rice Dream brand rice milk on there. I used to drink the Organic Original Enriched (quart size you buy from the shelves). I continued to drink in after my diagnoses, never thinking to check the label. After not getting much better I started...
  12. I am just about 1 month in from my diagnosis and I was still having some problems when I tried cutting out dairy. It has worked. I haven't been tested or anything for casein/dairy intolerance but I have read that many with celiac disease do not a handle dairy well, especially before you've had a chance to fully heal. So for now I am dairy/gluten free and...
  13. This may seem like a silly question, but I'm still new at this. Are all choc. chips gluten-free or do you have to buy a certain kind? I've never seen any labeled specifically gluten-free and they do have those flavorings in them.......
  14. Thank you all. you confirm what I fell. My doc is old school ( the guy has to be in his 60's) Maybe it's better he doesn't 'officially' diagnose me- better from a insurance point of view.
  15. I'm so confused! I just came from my GI appointment following my biopsies. First I asked about the blood work- I new it was positive but I wanted numbers, tests, etc. They ran a TTG which he explained was IGG and IGA. He said my IGA was negative, but sometimes this can happen in celiac disease. The IgG was positive at a value of 19. He told me it had to be...
  16. I am facing testing my girls next week. They are 8 and 11. Is it possible they won't have antibodies high enough? As I've posted before the 8 year old has some symptoms- not so much GI but growth issues, enamal problems, rashes and behavior and learning issues. The 11 year old has NO symptoms except for her new molars coming in with holes in them. i have...
  17. It's talking about wheat berries! My favorite bread before celiac was Alvarado street breads, especiall the flax and it was made with sprouted whole wheat berries. Whole wheat berries are used in a lot of breads and are thought to be the most nutritious part of wheat.
  18. Welcome Justine, I too am newly diagnosed and 2 weeks gluten-free. I am 41 and have had symptoms similar to yours and frankly, was too embarrased to go to the doctor! Then the pain started and that got the ball rolling. I have had 'accidental' glutenings not from eating hidden gluten but just forgetting that I can't eat certain things! Expect this to happen...

    ARCHIVED Guacomole

This is where I'm confused. Realize I'm still new to this but I read ground spices you have to watch out for because they MAY have gluten. So what about the garlic powder? The more I look at ingredients the more I freak out because I've read stuff MAY have gluten. Like natural flavoring. That's in everything! And artificial color and flavors?? Does one have...
  20. Hello all, I am wondering if anyone has experienced what I am. I have had a pain in my upper left abdomen for many, many months. It's what got me into the GI in the first place and started me on the Celiac track. My bloodwork came back positive and my trial gluten-free 10 days or so were amazing. Had my biopsies 10 days ago (i was back on gluten about a...
  21. Hello all. Mine is a long story that I will shorten by saying that I have had positive anitgen tests and a positive response to a gluten free diet. I am awaiting results of biopsies but really don't care what they show because I will be going gluten-free because I feel so much better. My question is the kids. I had never heard of celiac disease before...
  22. I did a week of gluten-free as a trial more than a month ago, then doc told me to go back on normal diet until after biopsy
  23. I'm just bcak from my endoscopy (and still alittle loopy). And I quote the findings "Normal upper GI endoscopy to the third part of the duodenum. Duodenal biopsies obtained for sprue. Endoscopic Diagnosis: Normal exam." Has any one else had this and had positive biopsies? So what do I do if they're negative but I had the anitbody tests that were positive...
  24. Here are mine. Not sure if all celiac related 'cause I'm new to this Bloating Painful gas Fecal leaking (gross I know, but I had to mention..) brain fog irritability fatigue itchy eyes post nasal drip I go for my upper gi biopsy on Friday. How long 'till you get results??
  25. Tinkyada pastas are the best! I'm fairly new to this so I haven;t tried much, but I like those pastas so I'll sticj with them. I also haven't ventured into trying mixing my own gluten-free flours. I have used Pamelas mixes. They're a bit pricy. I made a couple batches of The Joy of Cooking's low fat chewy brownie recipe and used Pamelas pancake/baking mix...
