Newceliac, I have the same thing. I posted a few weeks ago and I got a few responses that say it's normal. I have been gluten-free for 2 months now. I did have an accidental glutening about 3 weeks ago that really flared the pain, so my gi doc said it has to be due to the celiac. Well, I still have it and I KNOW I haven't had gluten. My pain doesn't really...

ARCHIVED Im New And Need Help For My Son..
Luisa2552 replied to heidi111's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What a nice mom you are! What you could do is gather the lists and put them in a binder for him. Get him a copy of Living Gluten Free for Dummies- it's a great, easy to follow book. All the big grocery store chains usually have lists of gluten-free foods they stock. If you are a baker you could do some experimenting with gluten-free products and bake him... -
ARCHIVED Curious If It Is Common!

Wow, I didn't even think of that. I voted based on my left hand because my right was on the mouse(I'm right handed). My left pinky is even witht he last joint and my right is considerably shorter- just over half way between the joints! How weird I've never noticed that before -

I am reading Peter Greens book and was surprised to see Cardiomyopathy as a related condition. I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy 8 years ago. I was put on ace inhibitors and digoxin. It has improved over the years, but I am still on ace inhibitors. Could this be related to celiac? My symptoms of celiac disease are on the mild side and I honestly only remember...

ARCHIVED Diet Is Too Easy - Am I Doing Something Wrong?
Luisa2552 replied to mattj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are in the UK, from what I have read, labeling laws are much better there. I agree with the previous poster- I stick to whole foods as much as possible (I am still healing) and try to stay away from processed food. The biggest ingredient I am leary of is 'spices'. Ground spices can have gluten in them and if a pasta sauce or the like lists 'spices... -
I agree with the previous poster. In order to get the most accurate blod tests you need to be on gluten. If you were diagnosed as a toddler as having celiac disease then you still have it. You know now it does not go away. Have a full celiac panel run to include EMA and TTG titers (most celiac panels should). Most gi docs then want to do an intestinal biopsy...

ARCHIVED I Have Been Turned Upside-down!
Luisa2552 replied to silly celiac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You're right of course horsegirl. I tried to make that clear earlier in the post with the mention of the 95% of Celiacs having the gene, leaving lots of celiacs that don't. I'm clear with it but it can be difficult to explain it! Beautiful horse in your avitar btw, yours? -
ARCHIVED I Have Been Turned Upside-down!
Luisa2552 replied to silly celiac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kay It is all very confusing. celiac disease and gluten sensitivity (NCGS) are very different, but treated the same. celiac disease is an auto immune disease. 95% of those with celiac disease have DQ2 or DQ8 genes. That still leaves a fair amount of people without the genes that have auto-immune mediated celiac disease. Then there is Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity... -

I have been gluten-free almost 2 months and I feel like I'm a work on progress. I too often get bloaty but not nearly as bad as I did eating gluten. I feel 'full' a lot and even though my morning constitutional is normal , it just feels 'slow'. I blame it on my body getting used to the different diet. I have been trying to stay away from processed gluten... -
I'm confused. Oats don't have gluten. Do you think the gluten-free oats are contaminated or do you have an allergy or intolerance to oats?
-
I'm still healing and afraid to try them. I'm going to look into the guaranteed gluten-free ones.

ARCHIVED Dexa Scan
Luisa2552 replied to Oisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for all the replys. I have scheduled a bone scan for next week. I have had intense lower back pain for about 6 months. It hurts so bad to stand more than 10 minutes or so. I haven't been to the doctor for it because I've been too busy tracking the elusive Celiac diagnosis! I figured one problem at a time. I think it's due to an old mattress. Hope the... -
ARCHIVED New Celiac Traveling Next Month
Luisa2552 replied to Luisa2552's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi Ezme, We're going to Playa del Carmen and staying at an all inclusive resort. I WISH we were going to my in-laws in central mexico. It would be so much easier! I'm only a month or so in on the gluten-free diet. I'm still having abdominal pain (I'm still not convinced it's because of celiac disease, but that's another story) so I'm real careful what... -
ARCHIVED New Celiac Traveling Next Month
Luisa2552 replied to Luisa2552's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hi Ezme, -
I think I'm in the 'freak out' stage of celiac disease. When I first found out and went gluten-free, I thought, no problem. But a month and a half into it and I'm freaking out. I still am having symptoms from time to time (that are worse than before ) and almost everytime has been from eating out. I'm afraid to leave the house without a bag of Lara bars...

ARCHIVED Gluten And Lung Cancer
Luisa2552 replied to grapevine's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I lost my mom to lung cancer after a 2 year battle with it. (BTW, I'm adopted so my celiac disease did not come from her). She was a non smoker so I was especially interested in finding out as much as I could about this disease. I must have read dozenes of books, articles...anything I could get my hands on. I never remember reading anything about a connection... -

ARCHIVED So Does This Mean I Am Celiac After All....?
Luisa2552 replied to sfm's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My first question is why did you go gluten-free in the first place? Were you diagnosed then as having celiac disease/gluten intolerance? Are you having symptoms with these second hand glutenings? My GI has told me he will do a recheck if the bloodtests to see if my numbers come down to make sure I am relatively gluten-free. I can't say where your inflammation... -
ARCHIVED Gi Doc Finally Calling In Celiac!
Luisa2552 replied to Luisa2552's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Today is the first day I feel a bit better. I've been eatin plain chiken, veggies and egg whites all week. It's probably is just denial, but boy, do I freak out! Especially when you do a search of symptoms! I didn't have pain this bad when I was eating gluten, but now that I've been off . I do need to start being more assertive at restaurants. I have... -
ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Severity Of Symptoms
Luisa2552 replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think you'll find that everyone is different. I've been gluten-free for a little over a month. My symptoms before were pretty mild compared to what some have been through, still , I feel so much better. Now when I get glutened my symptoms are worse! I got glutened this past weekend and I have had incredible abdominal pain. Today is the first day it's a... -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test---now What?
Luisa2552 replied to Hadleygirl02's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm still fairly new to all of this and of course not a doc., but have you tried her on the gluten-free diet? If she responds well to that then there's your answer. Blood tests can be negative and you can still have celiac disease or gluten intolerance. You say they are planning a small intestinal biopsy in a few weeks? If it were my dd and knowing what... -
ARCHIVED Gi Doc Finally Calling In Celiac!
Luisa2552 replied to Luisa2552's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for your replys. My house is not gluten-free since I am the only one at this point with celiac disease. But I do cook entirely gluten-free and have replaced utensils. What I do have with gluten is on it's own shelf in the pantry- just a few crackers and such for the kids and sandwich bread in the fridge. I never have been much into processed foods... -
ARCHIVED Gi Doc Finally Calling In Celiac!
Luisa2552 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, after months of dealing with what appears to be an old school doctor, he has finally said I have celiac disease. First I was only partially pos. on the antibody test. Then the biopsy showed blunted villi when he says they're atrophied with celiac disease. I told him how much better I was doing gluten free. He then ordered the HLA tests which showed... -
ARCHIVED Dexa Scan
Luisa2552 replied to Oisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is a DEXA scan the same thing as a bone density scan? My doctor has ordered one for me. I'm 41 and adopted. I do have health history on my mothers side that shows she and her mother both had early onset osteoporosis. My GI doc wonders if they both had celiac disease. If DEXA is what I should have instead I'd like to know...
