  1. Anyone know if there are gluten-free options on the Grand Lux Menu?
  2. Well I found out that Celiac or gluten sensitivity can cause chronic constipation. i originally assumed celiac was only violent diarrhea, rashes, pains, anemia, etc. so i had the enterolab stool test and got a slightly elevated antibody result. so i decided to try the gluten-free diet and its now been 8 months. i feel a little better but not 100%- but...
  3. 45 views and no one has any feedback? Come on now
  4. What exactly do the genetic tests mean? I just found out that I carry one of the two genes which means there is a 50% chance of developing celiacs or a 50% chance i have it. Actually, is this even true? I read somewhere that you need both genes to develop the disease..something about the 2 proteins combining to form the anti-gliadin antibody. How predictive...
  5. yeah mine has nothing to do with gluten
  6. aside from all my digestive issues I also have an overactive bladder--probably the result of my IBS and straining to go to the bathroom all these years, who knows. anyway, my urologist wants me to take medicine for the bladder (sanctura) but im concerned that it will mess up my stomach cause one of the side effects is gas and constipation. would i be better...
  7. I work as a sales rep and have been able to handle eating on the road by freezing my own food and using hotel microwaves/fridges and also visiting places like Whole Foods. in 2 weeks i have my company's national sales meeting and its in Las Vegas. The hotel i'm staying in does not offer microwaves or refrigerators and im going to be completely at the mercy...
  8. Not sure if i have celiac or non-celiac gluten intolerance just yet, but my free T3 levels were a little low. can there be a connection? can gluten also cause a rise in serum creatinine levels? before i went gluten-free my creatinine was elevated and when i changed my diet it went back down again thanks
  9. I was up in Bethesda, MD for work and went to Lilit Cafe, which has an impressive gluten free menu. There was a young boy with his parents and he was holding a huge stack of gluten-free desserts. His parents were buying them for his birthday. He seemed so excited and happy and it just depressed me...dunno why...maybe because so many people take this kind...
  10. Hi Rachel- thank you for your detailed insight. I had a full GI workup and the only flags were the following: 1. +2 for candida which means there was light growth 2. moderate amount of pathogens/bacterial overgrowth detected in addition to abundant flora (from probiotics probably) 3. various food allergies (ginger, dairy, soy, rye, egg, mustard all being...
  11. a few people have posted here saying that they went gluten-free for a few years and were then able to reintroduce it back into their diets. i guess everyone is different
  12. are the symptoms for gluten intolerance the same as the symptoms for celiac?
  13. I have multiple intolerances....cant eat soy, dairy, citrus, eggs, berries, nuts, spices, vinegar as well as others. so the Gluten isnt the problem, its really everything else
  14. my diet is so restricted now that i'm miserable. I make 4-6 trips to the grocery store every week and keep eating the same crap over and over again and its making me miserable. everything is bland and boring. chicken, salmon, rice, quinoa, potatoes, sweet potatoes, broccoli, spinach, olives, perky-os with rice milk and gluten-free cornbread..thats IT!...
  15. Did u have any other symptoms? Which tests did you have to confirm Celiac?
  16. is it safe? ive been eating it a lot since going gluten-free and really hope its safe otherwise i just wasted 8 months on a diet i thought was gluten-free
  17. I decided to finally have the genetic test (HLA-DQ panel) and the blood Ab test after i do a 2-3 week gluten challenge. I'm really nervous about what they might find. only potential diagnostic criteria i have now are the results of the enterolab stool anti-gliaden test - which showed a slightly elevated result (21 on a scale of 1-10 being normal) I saw...
  18. Does anyone here have problems taking supplements? for some reason i cant tolerate any type of herbal or vitamin supplement. My stomach problems started after i took a 5 month course of antibiotcs for a prostate infection. Before the stomach problems developed, some supplements really helped with my prostate but now they will just mess up my stomach...
  19. Hi Carla- How did you fix your health problems and reverse the gluten intolerance? When you were intolerant did you test positive on the antibody tests? how did u know for certain you didnt have Celiac?
  20. last summer I had a slightly elevated creatinine on my blood test for a routine physical. it was 1.4. doc wasnt too concerned but had me retest...second time it was a 1.7. i was really nervous but the doc said it was just a normal variant specific to my physiology. Had a urine analysis after and everything was negative. After I cut out all of my allergic...
  21. Thats quite a story! You have me concerned now because i had a filling replaced back in the 90s and one completely drilled out and replaced with a cap in 2003. cant say I noticed anything dramatic after, but my system was already in a weakened state from my digestive trauma. I had a hair analysis last year and my mercury was a bit elevated (probly cause...
  22. Hi rachel- thank you for all of your feedback. How do you think the dental work triggered all of your problems....mercury poisoning? Did you talk to your dentist after it happened?
  23. Wow- I literally thought I was the only one. No one has ever been able to relate to my situation. 6 years on antibiotics is crazy...i'm surprised your docs even let you stay on them longer than 6 months. I believe that a comibination of antibiotics, horrible stress and the viral infection set me off...was the worst time in my life. Im sure im genetically...
  24. If gluten intolerance is caused by a traumatic digestive event (e.g. viral infection) resulting in leaky gut and yeast overgrowth, is it at all possible that if the gut is healed then the sensitivity to gluten may be reduced or eliminated over time? I'm still trying to rationalize how and why i developed a gluten sensitivity and if its related to stomach...
  25. I've been more or less gluten-free for 6 months after getting a slightly positive stool Ab result from Enterolab. I had bad constipation with thin stools, and since i stopped eating wheat I go pretty much every day and have bulkier stools. My doctor doesnt think I have Celiacs cause all the intestinal workup he did on me initially does not indicate celiacs...
