ARCHIVED Have A Big Sales Meeting Coming Up
jasonD2 replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
good advice but theres no way im bringing food into a restaurant with me - ill never hear the end of it. ill do my best to just order food as plain as possible -
i will be meeting all the reps in the company for the 1st time and im sure everyone will be going out to eat. i will have very little control here and im concerned. i cant tell everyone im going to eat by myself and im afraid of being the picky, annoying one in the group when we are ordering food. also i have one colleague that always pokes fun at me and...

I heard that if you dont have the genes then you will never go on to develop full blown celiacs, but can remain intolerant - is that true? Also, even if i did get an endoscopy wouldnt it still show some abnormality in my villi even after being gluten-free for 6 months? i doubt my insides have fully recovered 100% Lastly, arent there other tests that...

so there really is no difference between an antibody reading of 21 vs 300? How do you know if you are celiac vs gluten intolerant? i was thinking of getting the genetic test but also the blood workup as well. is it worth it for me to go back on gluten for the test? i just wanna know if im celiac or gluten intolerant

I had the enterolab stool test for anti-gluten antibodies and it was slightly elevated (think it was 21 with 10 being the cuttoff for negative) , but i didnt have the other confirmatory tests so im still not 100 % certain, but i do feel better w/o eating gluten. I guess ive been too laid back about the whole thing and still order food that might have gluten...

Thanks for the feedback- I haven't been officially diagnosed with celiac yet so I am uncomfortable telling him. right now all i know is i do better without gluten and other foods.

Yeah I guess being more direct is the only answer at this point. the healthy eating thing isn't registering with them. They probably think i'm neurotic or something so if i flat out tell them i have stomach issues then they might understand.

I finally landed my dream job and am so happy, however, it requires a great deal of travel and I must admit that eating out is killing my stomach. Ive been doing my best to avoid gluten and everything else im sensitive to, but its been impossible and I can only go to Chinese restaurants for steamed chicken and vegetables so many times.I actually freeze...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Dating/relationships
jasonD2 replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
we covered relationships but what about travel, getting invited to dinner at someones home, etc....how are you supposed to survive? i used to have such passion for travel and now whenever someone suggests a trip i basically turn it down because i know it will be impossible to stay on my diet if i'm in other countries. the point of travel is to experience... -
Has anyone experienced problems with dating/relationships as a result of the condition? I'm extremely self conscious about food and eating out and am now that I'm gluten-free im finding it very hard to deal with dating cause I have to be so picky at restaurants...its really humiliating for me..i know it shouldnt be but it is. In this day and age so much...

ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes
jasonD2 replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
wow so many to choose from- I dont believe I have celiacs and at this point want to take something prior to eating out to act as a safety net in case of accidental ingestion of gluten. Ive tried various enzyme supplements in the past and I didnt feel so well after, but I believe they all had fruit-based enzymes so i may be sensitive like yourself. ... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes
jasonD2 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi- Rachel24 is using AFP Peptizyde and said it works quite well for her. Has anyone else tried this or any other gluten enzyme with positive results? im very sensitive to certain supplements and am currently taking Biogest with meals, which i seem to tolerate well if i use half a capsule, but im not sure if its acting on whatever trace amounts of gluten... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is Biopsy For Diagnosis?
jasonD2 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have a slightly elevated stool IgA for gluten but i didnt have any other confirmatory tests. Once I stopped eating gluten, i repeated the test and it was negative for Abs, which was only a few weeks after i went gluten-free. I really dont want to do an endoscopy if i dont have to. what else can be done? My doctor believes i just have a gluten sensitivity... -

ARCHIVED Afraid Of Developing A Life Threatening Disease
jasonD2 replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
it was stool IgA- cutoff for normal was 10 and mine was 20 - not even sure how accurate the test was since i heard they give a lot of false positives. my stool IgG was negative but at that point I already started to cut out gluten -

I don't have celiacs but tested slightly positive for anti-gliadin antibodies. im doing my very best to avoid gluten, but sometimes its out of my control regardless of how careful I am. I was unemployed for 5 months and spent that entire time preparing my own food for the most part, but i then landed a great job in sales and am now forced to eat out most... -

So taking these enzymes prior to eating wheat will degrade the gluten/gliadin? -
ARCHIVED Food, Travel...fat Annoying Boss
jasonD2 replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Does the enzyme cause any side effects? right now i take Biogest which has HCL and pepsin in it and tolerate it well, but i tried other enzymes in the past and they causes either nausea or stomach upset -
I'm really lost. A few months ago i felt great after finally figuring out what I need to do to get better...i cut out all the foods i was allergic to and was doing great. now i am almost 3 months into a sales job with 80% travel and i feel like crap. I'm bloated again and get constipated very easily when i have little control over the food i ingest. ...

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance Vs Celiacs
jasonD2 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't have Celiacs but my Antibody titer was slightly elevated via stool-Ab test. the nurse told me i MUST avoid gluten for the rest of my life. Thing is im not sure how accurate this test is (Enterolabs) and even if my AB titer is slightly elevated, does this mean that my villi are being damaged? Could i just be slightly gluten intolerant and thats it... -
ARCHIVED Very Hard Stools
jasonD2 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Anyone have any recommendations for hard stools? I have the urge to have a BM every day, but they are always very difficult to pass in the beginning. i have to strain, hold back, strain and hold back to let a little out at a time or else my hemmorhoids will act up. When its over im in pain and theres a small amt of external bleeding. fiber doesnt seem... -
Hey All- some of u may recall my previous posts. i have a new sales job that requires me to do a lot of traveling. anyway, i'm one month in and am finding it impossible to avoid all the foods im supposed to avoid. truthfully I dont care anymore because the amount of stress involved in ordering a plain meal isnt worth it. I dont have Celiacs, but am slightly...

some of u might recall my previous postings regarding my new job and concerns about my diet and being on the road. i took a sales job that requires 80% travel and am on the road 4 days out of the week. Anyway, im 2 weeks into the new job and im finding that its just literally impossible to maintain a diet free of all my food triggers. The only option...
