  1. A book I'm reading suggests, "Use alka seltzer gold as needed during detox week for headaches or digestive discomfort. Use it any time you have an adverse reaction to allergy food." Has anyone heard of or tried this?
  2. I read that having an overgrowth of yeast in your intestines or having parasites can cause a lot symptoms that are very similar to Celiac/gluten allergy/sensitivity, and that one can see improvement on a gluten free diet without having Celiac Disease simply because you're getting less yeast in your diet. There's no "elimination diet" to determine if...
  3. Good suggestions. That 50+ easy things list is awesome.
  4. Perhaps, but restaurant eggs make me feel gross, too, and I don't always use a non-stick pan. I don't always feel bad after eating eggs, either. Scrambled eggs and omelettes seem to be the worst.
  5. That's so exciting! I would LOVE to not need my wellbutrin and adderall anymore (and no, I wouldn't dream of quitting wellbutrin cold turkey... I made that mistake with prozac once... not good), and I can't stop smiling at the idea that my son may not need to take concerta anymore. lol I'm getting ahead of myself... I still don't know for sure if...
  6. Thank you ladies. While eggs usually don't agree with me, some of these other ideas would work. (Raw eggs I can handle if they're cage free, but for some reason cooked eggs have always made me feel horrible after eating them. Maybe it's time to tell my boyfriend we're going back to cage free/vegetarian eggs...) There are a few of books I've read...
  7. Hi everyone, I'm curious as to whether anyone here has (or know someone who has) successfully gone off of their psychiatric medications after starting a gluten free diet. I'm curious about depression, anxiety, and especially ADD/ADHD.
  8. That stuff sounds good, but to be honest, a week of eating that type of meal three times a day would take more time and effort than I've spent on food in the past three years. I would like to change that, and I could see myself doing it at dinner a lot of nights, but I can't take that much time out of my day to prepare lunch (much less breakfast!). What...
  9. Anyways... I would be beyond thrilled if getting rid of my acne ended up being one of the bonuses of not eating gluten. (Getting rid of the fatigue, digestive problems, and mood issues would be the main benefits. As well as helping my family who all suffer from some of the main symptoms of Celiac Disease.)
  10. I have an old friend who had perfect skin as a teenager and then developed crohn's disease (that's the diagnosis at least, she didn't think she'd been evaluated for celiac disease) and last time I saw her she was really bad adult acne. I wonder if these digestive issues are related to our hormones/endocrine systems in a way that can cause acne.
  11. I'm going to try a gluten elimination diet, but I need help planning the menu... Whenever I try diets (South Beach, etc.) or try to eat healthier (cut out as many processed foods as possible, etc.) I end up in worse shape than I was when I started because I don't eat enough. Basically, what happens is that when I know I should eat and I'm going over my...
  12. How common is it people with Celiac disease who have adult acne to find that it clears up when they switch to a gluten free diet?
  13. Thanks. Looking at your list of misdiagnoses helps me feel like there's hope as well. I fit the diagnostic criteria for a number of those, but I'm not satisfied with calling those things anything other than sets of symptoms. I want to find the root cause. At this point I would actually be disappointed if I don't have some sort of problem with gluten...
  14. Sometimes I think I drink too much water, and theoretically I drink enough, but it seems like no matter how much water I drink I get dehydrated very easily. I've been to the emergency room a few times because of this. (And keeping my electrolyte levels optimal is a challenge sometimes too.) Is this common in people with gluten allergies/Celiac?
  15. So there is hope!
  16. Is this a symptom of Celiac Disease? (I'm particularly interested in chronic myofascial pain, especially if it began after an injury.)
  17. Does oil on the surface of the toilet water (before flushing) look like little bubbles? And more little bubbles keep floating to the top? And the bubbles sort of drift together into little groups of bubbles? (Or am I seeing air, not oil?) Thanks!
  18. Thank you everyone. It's nice to know about that lab... I'd rather just go through my doctor than pay for those tests, but my son's dad would probably not be keen on testing him for it, and he wouldn't agree to a gluten free diet when my son is at his house unless there was a positive test. Testing at that lab would be a great solution.
  19. I have an appointment with my PCP on Tuesday, and she's going to give me a referral to an allergy specialist and/or gastrointestinal specialist, but for some reason I'm really nervous and apprehensive about getting evaluated and tested. Part of the reason is the amount of time it takes these things (between insurance approval of the referral and the amount...
