I have my first GI doctor appointment tomorrow. Does anyone have any tips for me about how I should approach the gluten issue? I'm 97% sure I am gluten intolerant, but there may be other digestive problems as well. (I'm a little bit worried that I may forget to mention a symptom or be too pushy and offend the doctor or that the doctor will say "you just...

ARCHIVED Milwaukee, Wi 2 Year Old With Celiac
Joyous replied to LuchoWa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I live in Milwaukee, but my son is almost 8 years old now. (And I don't know if he has Celiac Diseas yet or not.) -
ARCHIVED Hot Lemon Water
Joyous replied to Joyous's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I use the minute maid frozen lemon juice in the black box. Much better for you than real lemon. I started doing this before my breast reduction a year ago to help reduce swelling, and it seemed to help overall but sometimes upset my stomach. I've been meaning to start again, but I find myself not wanting it because I'm worried I'll get an upset stomach... -
I've had one small wedding and one secret wedding. The only ones who knew about it were our two witnesses and my sister, who couldn't be there. Our parents didn't know for like six months. Fun times. I did it because I wanted to be married but didn't want to expense and fuss of a wedding. Most people were more upset that I kept it a secret than that...

Open Original Shared Link Apparently this is a pretty common thing, can cause problems for people, and is very easily treated. To check for it (as described on the above website) you push up on the ball of your feet and push down your first two toes and see if the first or second metatarsal bone is longer by looking for the joint. I couldn't see...

Drinking hot lemon water is generally really good for you... but what about Celiacs whose digestive tracks are still healing? Do you think it would be too rough on them?

I'm okay with giving up gluten, but dairy... And the fact that I can't imagine not eating dairy could suggest that I'm addicted to it because I'm casein intolerant. Or maybe I've just lived in Wisconsin too long.

Does it sometimes go away once you're gluten free?

ARCHIVED Topical Gluten Causing Dh In Someone With No Other Celiac Symptoms?
Joyous posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My massage therapist was telling me that one time there was a massage cream that she had an allergic reaction to. She described a rash on her fore arms that sounded a lot like DH, including leaving purple marks that took a while to go away. She said she never figured out what ingredient causes the allergic reaction, but it only happened with that specific... -
ARCHIVED Wow, My Husband Is Gluten Intolerant Too!
Joyous replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tell him not to shoot the messenger. He should be thankful that he was fortunate enough to discover his condition before getting cancer or diabetes himself. That said, I think there's a certain amount of grieving involved in discovering that you have a life altering condition, and denial and anger are two of the stages of grief. -
ARCHIVED I Get Rashes, But They're Not That Bad
Joyous replied to Joyous's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
elizn is correct, L-glutamine is an animo acid. It's good for a lot of things, and recently my chiropractor told me that it's important for people whose digestive tracts are healing because it works directly on the digestive tract, sort of like a topical does on skin. I haven't heard of viactiv or oregano oil, but the other ones I've read about in the... -

Joyous replied to Joyous's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. Have you looked into L-Glutamine? My first GI appointment is on the 7th, and whether or not I get an endoscopy will probably depend on the bloodwork. (And on whether or not I still have insurance. Good times. ) -
ARCHIVED Acne Vs. Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Joyous replied to Joyous's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oops. I meant to vote for "I also get (got) acne on my back/chest/other" as well. Is there a way to fix that? -
I'm wondering if it's possible that what a lot of people believe to be acne is sometimes actually mild Dermatitis Herpetiformis. Please note that the last question is multiple choice. Thanks!

I can't even imagine going through as much as it sounds like your family has. It seems like your family's symptoms are a lot more severe than most people's.

Nice.

Have you ever gone back to a dr. who was wrong (or perhaps was right but didn't think to suggest Celiac Disease as a cause) for the purpose of telling him/her what was actually wrong? (I'm considering doing this with, or at least writing letters to, a few of them once my symptoms clear up. Of course, I won't say "you were wrong", I'll just tell them that...

Mold is only toxic if you're sensitive/allergic to it or if there's a lot of it. Except for the small percentage of the population who is sensitive/allergic to mold (any kind of mold), it's more of a danger to the building than anything. (Don't mind me, I'm a building science geek. )

I think anyone with mental health or digestive complaints should be evaluated for Celiac Disease, as well as anyone who has an autoimmune disorder or problems with fatigue. Also, my personal opinion is that IBS should be viewed as a set of symptoms. It should be thought of as a secondary condition, meaning that the search for the actual problem should not...

Hard to say without knowing her, but it's possible that she decided on her own, or with another med student or (hopefully not!) professor that she doesn't have Celiac Disease. I'm having a hard time understanding why she'd pay for those things out of pocket if she has insurance though, especially considering the fact that she's already been officially...

Gluten is literally addictive to many people who are gluten intolerant because of an opioid chemical that's released in your system. (Because of this, serious cravings for foods with gluten are commonly a sign of gluten intolerance.) That's why some people with Celiac Disease weigh more than they'd like to (though many are too thin due to malabsorption)....

Are you like me, eating gluten so you can be tested? -
ARCHIVED I Get Rashes, But They're Not That Bad
Joyous replied to Joyous's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
What I'm wondering is if a lot of what people think is acne is actually mild DH. I could be way off, but it would certainly explain why so many people here say that their acne went away after they stopped eating gluten, and in my case it would explain why nothing the dermintologist could come up with would get rid of my acne, not even a year's worth of different... -

It looks a lot like Maggi315's photos! Maybe I should try to take some. I have some of my face, but I can't seem to get my camera to take a clear photo of my legs, and I haven't tried my chest or back. Right now my face actually looks a lot clearer than it usually does for some reason, but here are a couple face pics. The second one has circles on it... -
Or, if you have the opportunity, ask if you should visit that doctor to see if you actually have Celiac Disease. Maybe you could start eating gluten again too! (It's a bit of a smart ass way to point out what she already knows, but I don't know her... maybe she'd think it's funny and actually consider the point?)
