  1. Thanks All for easing my mind. I guess I was operating under the notion that if I hadn't heard anything somehow the people in charge would know it was just a mistake, but I did wonder. celiac3270, your posts here have been helpful to me. I am beginning to get the hang of how this site works so I don't spend so much time wandering around looking for something...
  2. Thanks All for your advice about baking soda toothpaste. I haven't used it very long, so hopefully, haven't damaged my teeth and gums too much. Will check out the list on delphiforums. Ruth
  3. Hi! I am relatively new to celiac discussions here. I have not been diagnosed with celiac but have had digestive problems for at least 70 of my 76 years. I decided to go with the SCD diet outlined on htt colon slash slash www.breakingthrough the vicious cycle.info slash. I had to spell out the words for the punctuation there as \i am using a Spanish typewriter...
  4. Dear celiac3270, I think I posted a couple of messages twice by accident when I was a newbie. Does that mean that I am allowed only 1 more error. Can't find the question mark on this Spanish computer at the library! Does anyone remove these after awhile. Your post here has been helpful. Thanks, Ruth
  5. I am currently using baking soda to brush my teeth. It cleans well, but I am wondering if it may be hard on the enamel. Any ideas about this? Also, I may not get by with soda for long because I have always used toothpastes that are for sensitive teeth. Ruth
  6. celiac3270, It sounds like you have learned that you are not lactose intolerant. If you don't know for sure, it would seem better to avoid ice cream altogether, especially since you are still having problems. I really shouldn't be giving advice about milk products since I had company last week and made them a traditional family treat, strawberry shortcake...
  7. Burdee, Thank you for your run-down of things you do to facilitate recovery. I have spent alot of computer time lately trying to find your post of July 31. I finally discovered that there was another page to that thread. I have been on the diet for 3 and a half weeks now. Was pretty good the first three weeks, but have company this week. It is harder to...
  8. Dear Burdee, Thanks for your comments about Beano. I have been only a week and three-fourths on SCD. So far results are mixed. I suspect some of my problems are due to increased consumption of fruit. I have always eaten alot of veggies. Also my digestive tract has to adjust to the loss of wheat and oatmeal fiber. Have been reading with interest the...
  9. p.s. to the above: Beano is not gluten freee. I checked out all my otc's meds and also soap, shampoo, etc. I just checked out my list. The ingredient that sticks out is potato starch. That may not have gluten, but would not be allowed onthe SCDdiet, I suspect. Don't know about mannitol. The other things sound okay. The inactive ingredients in so many of...
  10. I have checked out Family Pharmacy's Gas Relief since my last post. This one does not seem to contain any illegal ingredients with the possible exception of white edible ink. Also the food colors. They do have an email address: www.family pharmacy.com. Ruth
  11. I just reread my previous post recommending simethecone. Have learned that Gas X, the commonly used med for gas and bloating is not gluten-free. Cheers, Ruth
  12. Pam, This fits right in with my post. I, too, would like to know what else might be out there. Will call the drugstore about Family Pharmacy's brand when I get home. I do this at the library. Cheers! Ruth
  13. I, too, am glad to know about Gas X. I hadn't used that brand of simethecone in quite a long time, but do use the Family Pharmacy brand which may very well haave the same additives. Will check it out with my drugstore. The box doesn't have any information on it. I have now started seriously on the SCD diet. Hopefully, in time, this will have a good effect...
  14. Dear Karen, My understanding is that one should use butter rather than margarine. That may seem to be a problem with lactose intolerance, however, butter has almost all of the milk squeezed and washed out of it so only fat is left. I used to make butter at home by shaking cream in a jar, then I'm sure there was some buttermilk left in because I never had...

  16. I am preparing to begin the SCD diet plan. I am milk intolerant, also have problems with the potato, tomato, etc. family, orange juice, and problems with fruit.I do tolerate bananas. I don't do alot of baking, but know I will want to make something to take the place of regular breads eventually. Any ideas will be appreciated. Strack004
  17. I had in mind also to recommend the book Bonnie mentions, "Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall, Some information from this book can be found on Open Original Shared Link or just Open Original Shared Link I think maybe there's another slash after org, Can't decipher myown writing!. This diet is very strict, but I think the thinking behind it...
  18. The delayed digestion idea sounds good to me since celiac disease does mess up one' small intestine and probably also ones's entire digestive tract to some extent. I have personally had little luck with Beano, but do feel that simethecone helps. I take one capsule with breakfast and another with supper. I still have a little gas pressure, but not a whole...
  19. Dear Judi, Before I had my gallbladder out in February, I had an exam of my upper digestive tract including esophagus, stomach, duodenum. The doctor said I had Nerd instead of Gerd because there was only a little irritation present. He also said he had done several biopsies, but didn't specify results except that there were no tumors or ulcers found. Unfortunately...
  20. Since you were asking to get acquainted with some of us, I should also post some other information about myself. I have 6 children , 3 boys and 3 girls in that order. I have 18 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter whose parents live near enough to me so I get to enjoy her. She just turned one. One daughter and her family live 8 miles from me. Granddaughter...
  21. I haven't been diagnosed with celiac as yet. Have had blood tests that showed low negative results, but have learned that these may be false results even though low. I am not sure if I will pursue getting the biopsy. I see my doctor tomorrow again . He is encouraging me to try the diet (I plan to do SCD)even without further testing. I can put the money...
  22. Dear Lisa, Hope this message gets through. I did post my blood test evaluations , but it didn't show up on the board. Will try again. Gliadin Ab Evaluation, S 2.2 25.o (negative) , 25.1-49.9 (equivocal) 50.0 (positive). The above as really Gliadin IgG. Gliadin IgA 9.1 Same evaluations as above. ...
  23. Dear Ashase, I have also had my gall bladder removed without any relief of the right sided burning pain starting under my right center ribcage, goes up my esophagus and spreads across my upper abdomen sometimes. My gallbladder also had sludge with no stones. A person with similar problems has had a procedure to widen the duct carrying the bile into the...
  24. Dear Lisa: Here are my celiac bloodtest readings: Gliadin Ab Evaluation, S, Gliadin IgG, S. I think that last was a capital S; The reading is 2.2 Ev. 25.0, negative; 25.1-49.9= (equivocal); 50.0 = Positive. Gliadin IgA, S 9.1 Evaluation: Same as above. Tissue Transglutaminase Ab, 5 (IgA) Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) AB, S 6.5 ...
  25. Catfish, I still don't know if I have celiac or not, but I do have ankle, heel pains especially in my right foot that are driving me up a wall. I also have shoulder aches and aches in my hands. Since I am older (76 yesterday!) I have thought these to be arthritis. However this heel pain always gets worse when I eat more heavily of gluten. I have been tested...
