  1. Constipation has been the bane of my life from early childhood. I continue to have problems since going gluten-free, only worse. Have tried Citrucel, metamucil, Unifiber with no effect. Have used Zelnorm. I take 1/2of a I think it is 350 tab of calcium with each meal and 500 0f magnesium in the morning. I just don't let myself go more than three days...
  2. I have been gluten-free with a couple of "lapses" early in the time since July 30,04. To date my chief improvements are more energy and better sleep. My digestive problems remain. I suspect that they may have more to do with post gall bladder surgery problems than with celiac just now. I have been told I have ibs since the 40's, but had digestive problems...
  3. I'm not sure if my body aches and pains are due to muscle aches, tendon problems, old age, or maybe celiac. I haven't been diagnosed with celiac, but have had digestive problems since early childhood. Many family members also have such problems. So I am doing the celiac diet (SCD) anyway. Have been on it since July 30, 2004, about 3 and a half months. ...
  4. Thanks to all of you who listed the enzymes you take . I hope I will be able to find one or more of them. There is a small health food store within 20 miles of my little town. Perhaps she can order some. I rarely get to larger centers. Will check into this next time I get to "town". Ruth S.

  6. aascr: Can you tell us the name of the enzymes and papaya tabs, or is that against the rules? Ruth S.
  7. Has anyone here tried Kefir? I am considering getting a starter for the kind you can make with water. Ruth S.
  8. I , also , am grateful for this board. This is my favorite of three and the one I visit almost every day unless the library is closed and I can't get up here to our school when the computers aren't busy. I'll be having Thanksgiving supper with my daughter, several grandchildren and 1 and a half great grandchildren. The second great grand is to be born...
  9. red345: I just posted a message to you on "This May Well be The Answer". I won't repeat all that I said there. I wonder if you will continue to check there. Decided to add a short one to this thread since your last message was here on Nove. 6th. Cheers, Ruth S.
  10. Red345, I am wondering now about all the otc things I take in the morning. Apparently I will be unable to tell whether or not any of them have msg in them. I recall that on the day I had my cholesterol checked I had not eaten breakfast and had my test at 9 a.m. I had taken my lunch along since I planned to drive on to another town after the test to shop...
  11. Hi, I have been on the SCD diet since July 30. I also have had some ups and downs due to errors in eating. And I also do not tolerate many of the legal items on the diet. Am lactose intolerant, Don't get along with the potato tomato family and find that cabbage family vegetables are troublesome. Speaking of chicken, I wonder if some chicken comes from broth...
  12. Sorry, I pressed "add a reply" twice. Hope someone removes the second post soon. Ruth
  13. Red345: To reply to your new questions: So far as I know there is no history of alchoholism in either side of my family. My parents were either the youngest or among the youngest of large families. We had little to do with the older members of these families and alcoholism wasn't mentioned by my parents so far as I remember. Depression and/or mental illness...

  15. Hi Nukapai, I have spoken a number of times to my doctor about this burning pain. Lately we have got off on the celiac thing. I have been some better since doing the diet. My diet is the SCD diet recommended in "Breaking the Vicious Cycle", This diet is quite limited compared to two other celiac diets I have copies of. Hence no sweet potatoes. The theory...
  16. I've been losing weight also. It goes down slowly, increasingly so, but every so often it's down another pound. My scale is not very accurate. Need to get a new one soon. At the doctor's my last weight was 130 lbs. Of course, that counts clothes and they account for more weight now in a chilly fall. Last year at this time I weighed 160 lbs. However,...
  17. Nukapai. As you see from previous posts, I had my gallbladder out and as I sit here at the computer, I have that burning pain under my right ribcage which I had before the surgery. Antacids do not help. I have been on the Selected Carbohydrates variety of celiac diet since July 26 with one major departure in August. Suspect I haven't worked all the possible...
  18. almedingen: I am on the Selected Carbohydrate Diet for Celiac, ibs, etc. This diet is more restrictive than most. I am also lactose intolerant. I have various mixtures of meat and vegetables along with mushrooms, bananas, natural brand of peanut butter or almond butter. I just eat the latter by dabs or tsp. Lima beans cooked to a mush make kind of a cereal...
  19. Red345, What is the name and author of the book you mention at the beginning of your Oct. 13 post? Thanks, Ruth S.
  20. Darlin' Deb, Breaking the Vicious Cycle.info will get you to Elaine Gottschalk's diet plan. From her home page, go to the legal-illegal list. Back to what I eat, I also eat nut butters, mainly peanut butter and almond butter (natural). I was eating them on raw celery, but am wondering if raw celery is too much for my digestive tract, so am eating it cooked...
  21. Darlin'Deb. Try Open Original Shared Link. , or type in breaking the vicious cycle, or just try Elaine Gottschall. I printed out the whole list both of legal and illegal foods so don't need to go back in. Have to go home now, but tomorrow I'll check those out to see if they work. Cheers! Ruth
  22. BRCoats, Thanks for your reply. I do use salt and butter , sparingly, I guess I was thinking mainly about enjoying the flavors of vegetables without those additions. I often do eat them without, but do like a little butter on my squash! The sweet potatoes were a boo-boo. I have three different versions of a celiac diet. I guess I forgot that the SCD diet...
  23. I have been on the SCD diet for about 10 weeks now. I eat variations of lunch and supper menus for breakfast. The main thing I miss is oatmeal. If I could find a guaranteed gluten-free oatmeal, I would buy it. I eat variations of vegetables, fruits and meat. Am wondering if some kinds of turkey bother me. Could ground turkey include ground up organ meats...
  24. Hi! I would like to refer you to some posts by red345 (Kevin) about taking the type of products you are discussing. Posted around Sept. 21. My posts were nos. 17722 and 17716. I printed out that discussion, but don't have it with me, and can't remember what the title of the discussion was. Ruth
  25. Dear BamBam, I have been gluten free for about 10 months now with one glaring departure in August. Have done well since. Today, I , too, am having a bad day. Diarrhea this morning and usually I am "ibs Constipation". However, lately, have more of a tendency towards loose bowels. It is at least a help that the stools are not urgent like for some of the...
