ARCHIVED Testing
ThatlldoGyp replied to Beck's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You still are not getting my point and want to argue about the article for some reason! The point is that I wanted to let the mom know where the doctor was coming from and why they are saying what they are saying. Educating yourself about practice guidelines that they doctors will be using is a good first step in helping one make the decision for or against... -

ThatlldoGyp replied to Beck's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
thank you. And Ursa, you are great as always.... I think gpf's math is shaky at best, lol! and total villous atrophy is not necessary (uh, refer to marsh scale), and biopsies are not blindly taken. Thanks for taking the time to answer him as I have had enough of this and I have only been on this forum for a few months! Ugh. Medicine is an art and the doctors... -
ARCHIVED Testing
ThatlldoGyp replied to Beck's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, that sounds very fast to me. I would ask what they are looking for and why so fast. Mine did not even want the first one until 6 mos into the diet. Did they find villi changes? were there any "suprises"? The "standard" (and here I go again stepping into it, lol) is 1 yr. after the first one. And usually that one to judge healing. I would really be asking... -
ARCHIVED Testing
ThatlldoGyp replied to Beck's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, back to your question.. kids can heal very fast (lucky them!) Personally, I would wait 6 months and then check again. If the numbers look better, then you are doing the right thing. Discuss the numbers with the doctor and what they think. Don't be afraid of the doctors being mad at you, if your doctor doesn't want to work with you, then find another one... -
ARCHIVED Testing
ThatlldoGyp replied to Beck's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am not sure what your point is. My statement was just explaining to the mom why the doctors were wanting the endo. and why they have an "attitude" about patients getting one or not. She should be aware why they are saying what they are saying. But in the end, it is really her choice. The debate will go on and on within the celaic and medical community... -
ARCHIVED Wheat In Cat Food!
ThatlldoGyp replied to Celiaction's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wellness Core. Grain free and gluten free pouch foods as well. Everything made in the US,with US suppliers, all human grade ingredients, everything listed, nothing hidden. They even source things. NOT involved with the food recall in any way. It is a high quality food and my cat loves it! Which is amazing as she was a feral cat who adopted us (she is now... -

B Complex vitamins WEGMANS Brand got me the other day. I returned them, of course, but it was close. The ones I have to stay on my toes about: "Mixed greens" in vitamins that end up including barley grass. How could they possibly avoid getting any seed or other gluten containing material in the vitamins when massed produced? I would not touch anything made... -
ARCHIVED Wegmans Drugs And Vitamins
ThatlldoGyp replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
CAUTION! Barley Grass is in the B complex Wegman's brand vitamins, so still be careful. Barley grass is supposed to be gluten free, but I can not imagine that the manufacturer manages to keep ALL of the seeds out of the production line. It is listed as "Mixed greens" on the smaller bottles, I believe. If you can not find the ingredients on the small bottles... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Needed?
ThatlldoGyp replied to fun-size's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi,it is a Romanian study, I am trying to find it in English, or try it with a babelfish program that can translate it well enough. I know that isn't much of a help. But roughly translated it said, " that the intake of .5 mg of gliadin per week for 2 yrs on otherwise asymptomatic celiac Catholic women did not show complete recovery of villi". They did duodenual... -

ThatlldoGyp replied to Beck's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I didn't get the endo for validation of diagnosis ( I KNEW I had celiac) , but I did get it for staging so I could judge healing a year later. I am actually ok with getting another one (that is big for me because I have such a sensitive gag reflex I can barely get dental x rays, lol!) a year later. I am also a "minimal invasiveness" person, but in the... -
Hi, no disrespect, but Irish is confused. Cheese has very LITTLE lactose in it. Go here: Most lactose intolerant people (including myself) can tolerate it just fine! Open Original Shared Link "Most of the lactose is removed from the cheese with the whey during the manufacturing process. As a result, most ripened cheeses contain about 95 percent less lactose...

ARCHIVED Mom Thinks I Was Cursed By The Devil...lol! Rant
ThatlldoGyp replied to Bravie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tell your mom that everyone on this forum will be praying for her and we are asking for God to turn her heart and make her able to see the truth about celiac being a disease (genetic, btw, so be sure to thank her for the genes she gave you and your brother, lol!) If he won't turn her heart, perhaps he will turn her ankle, so we will know her by her limp and... -
ARCHIVED What To Do About My "mixed" House
ThatlldoGyp replied to Nan2N's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, your son gets to go gluten-free with you (and your ex while he is at your place) . It is better for him anyway. You need to toss or freecycle all your heavily glutened stuff and get new stuff as you can. It will be a big change, but I promise they get used to it. Your ex sounds like he is trying, but he just doesn't get how careful we all have to be... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Needed?
ThatlldoGyp replied to fun-size's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would do both. It is the "gold standard" of diagnosis for now. And besides, I find it good to know my staging so I can judge my recovery not just on symptoms and bloodwork alone. And, yes, 100% for the rest of your life. I just read a study where duod. biopsies (I meant) were done on Catholic celiacs where their only known exposure was the communion... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want Them To Stop
ThatlldoGyp replied to VioletBlue's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
omg, do I know what you mean.. every time I have the tiniest gut ache I have the dreams... I know it is all that anxiety about the fear of being ill for a whole week, curled up on the sofa in pain, my life on hold until god knows when... I do feel like I lost so much time and so many aspects of my life while I was suffering and waiting for a diagnosis that... -
ARCHIVED Pillcam In A Week
ThatlldoGyp replied to Sandi*'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
yes, if you have celiac, your villi would most likely still show damage. I just read a study... endos taken on Catholic celiacs. Villi damage still seen when their only known gluten intake would be the communion wafer once a week, all participants were asymptomatic yet still showed damage enough to be seen with sb biopsy. So, based on that study, then you... -

ThatlldoGyp replied to cdog7's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, welcome to the site! I am also grateful for this site, there is so much info and everyone is so kind and understanding... I am so glad you are pushing and pushing for a diagnosis. Sadly, it usually takes years and years for people to get diagnosed... and I suspect that almost everyone here was told they were depressed or something like that when the... -
ARCHIVED Restless Leg Syndrome And Celiac Disease
ThatlldoGyp replied to JenniferRH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
yes, going gluten-free and walking at least 2-5 miles per day helped me a lot. I hope taking this course will help you! I hated restless leg. Oddly enough, having my dog lie on my legs at night (especially at night) really helped calm me down. I think the pressure blocked some of the impulses. Hope this helps! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer
ThatlldoGyp replied to greendog's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
New Grist- Mixed with dark amber woodchuck cider, it is really good on a hot, summer day. This has a lot of potential, but since I like a stronger beer this is a bit light for me unless I am really hot and thisty and the amber is in there! That's personal taste though, my neighbor loves this. Redbridge- guess all that rice brewing finally paid off for Budwiser... -
Hi, I had the same issue. I almost got into a yelling match with my former Dr. about getting tested. She wanted to do a work up for IBS and Crohn's first, because, "going gluten-free is an expensive and life changing diagnosis". Well, I felt so bad I was ready for a life change, and it is not like the other two possibilites were not going to change my life...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Need Some Help!
ThatlldoGyp replied to madwick's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
easy breakfast that will last until snack or lunch: boiled egg, fruit, and some additional protien. It is weird grabbing chicken or some other meat first thing in the morning, but it really helps making breakfast last long enough to make it to lunch. (I'm back to being a vegetarian now, but in the beginning I just had to say "sorry" to the critter and eat... -

ARCHIVED Cuisinart Bread Maker
ThatlldoGyp posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone tried the new Cuisinart breadmaker with the special gluten-free mode? what do you all think? My 20 yo Zojirushi (or however you spell it) finally kicked the bucket! I am trying to decide between the Cuisinart and the newest Zojirushi. Anyone have any experience with it? Thanks!
