  1. thankyou for the welcome Gina, it was actually a standin doctor that ordered the tests. i think that i may have been having symptoms when i was younger because i kept feeling really ill, but i was a very stubborn child and wouldnt let my mother take me to the doctors thankfully ive become a bit more mature scince that
  2. yes you should get everyone in you imediate family screened and it would be a good idea to get less imediate family checked as well (cousins, aunties uncles) experts say that if one person has coeliac every one in ten people in that family will also have it. and as for not having many symptoms i was asymptomatic until about a month before i was diagnosed...
  3. tell your freinds that you would love to be able to share stuff with them but you just cant afford to, i know what you mean, my freinds are the same they either pull faces or ask for more so ive taken to just saying no to them, if it doesnt work then you could try trading or use shock tactics, take them to the store and show them just how much more gluten...

i know what you mean, its amazing how many things they slip gluten into, but have faith there are some really good alternatives out there. the thing with coeliac disease is we are in controll of our own health, sure our family can help us but they cant watch over us 24/7 (although i know my pearents would probably like to). keep going and dont give in, ive...
  5. hi im new to the forum, i was diagnosed 2 months ago and i am finding it a lot easier than i expected to, at the start i felt a bit guilty but i have a really supportive family and my consultant is great.
  6. hi im nikky, i was diagnosed with coeliac in december and i joined this forum yesterday, i thought i would tell you a little about myself. im 15 years old and i live in the UK, i have two sisters and one brother, as far as we know none of them have coeliac, the only reason i know about it is that i went to the doctors with shoulder pain and they checked...
  7. i was diagnosed in december last year, as a teenager (15) i was reluctant to start the new diet, i practically lived on cookies, muffins, bread, pasta etc, but i stuck with it and im really glad i did, last month my consultant checked the antibody levels in my blood and they have dropped dramatically. (from over 200 to just 40) and im feeling ten times better...
  8. weight loss and weight gain can both be symptoms, so dont worry, a lot of family doctors arent very familiar with coeliac its good that you finnally got your doctor to agree to give you the anti-body checks, many people do get low iron counts and low calcium and things like that, i had iron deficency anemia but my calcium is always high (i recently discovered...
  9. the normal antibody levels are between 1 and 10 anything above ten requires further investigation
  10. if your biopsy is clear - dont be disheartened it hapened to me, but my bloods were so high that my consultant decided to start me on the new diet in december the normal range is 1-10, my bloods over 200, and the biopsy was still clear i think it would depend on your range if it was only 5-10 over the 'limit' then and your biopsy was clear then...

    ARCHIVED Blood Test

did you know you can get self testing kits? you can get them from chemists, they are just simple finger prick tests, if it comes back positive then your doctor will have to listen or you could try switching doctors your mother is correct about waiting before you switch the diet, if you dont then it could mess up the test results
