  1. that is so sweet and very true - thanks for sharing
  2. ahh the word cookies comes to mind. Everyone finds it hard from time to time and we all deal with it in different ways. DO NOT eat the lemon loaf you purchased today. I know its hard but you can do it, you have to believe in yourself, dont put yourself down. Something i find effective is to take a treat where-ever possible, that way im not tempted to...
  3. ok, my cousins are getting christened on easter Sunday ( Maykayla and Jack). It will be my first experience of a party scince being diagnosed and most of the people there dont even know i have coeliac (long story). Well anyway Sunday is also Maykaylas birthday and there is a party for her in the afternoon. Anyone got any tips on how to handle about 3...
  4. this is definately a scam looking to take advantage of newbies, by the way im reffering to the first post in the topic
  5. well theres your first *headbang* moment. The fact that you reacted so badly to the shreaded wheat should be enough to show you that you at least have a problem with wheat and probably gluten. Unless you are having further testing (biopsy) then there is no harm in starting a gluten free diet now. However if there is any chance you are having further...
  6. Yey congrats.. i think lol. this proves that there are decent doctors in the world. I had the exact same thing happen to me .. negative biopsy.. but i was also pretty much asyptomatic (i had anemia and tiredness). But my GI (Dr P.J. Dale) diagnosed me anyway .. as far as i can tell most doctors would have said that the anemia was because im a girl and...
  7. Hey guys, if you have myspace ive started a group called CeliacsRUs, you can get your freinds to join too. My aim is to raise awareness and provide help support and freindship. Anyone is welcome.
  8. I cant help you with the cost because mine was free (NHS), but id say that charge seems about right. I agree withthe othe poster, its a bit like a buisness, whilest the doctor has to look after you, they still want to make money. It seems outrageously high but there are dedicated units for these kind of procedures, which have to be paid for then theres the...
  9. thankyou all for your suggestions, maybe i should have been a bit clearer my sister is barely able to pay the rent, lives in a council house has 2 children and her partner has low wages they cant afford to go private or have tests from a private company. We dont have the same GP so i cant talk to them and being 15 they wouldnt listen to me anyway. Also...
  10. Its not my aunt its my sister, thanks for your suggestion but im not sure entrolab even exsists in the UK, and my sister definately wouldnt be able to afford it. She is going with the NHS, the problem with that is a lot of the GPs arent very informed and so dont know all that much about symptoms and how tests can be unreliable.
  11. Welcome to the forum Its hard at first, especially if you dont feel a reaction,(because its harder to see how somethings effecting you) but it gets easier, all it takes is perseverance will power and support. If your freinds get cookies and things like that ask them politely not to eat them right infront of you for a while and dont go through the canteen...
  12. ok, im not a parent but im an auntie. does that count??? my neice is 5 years old and has classic symptoms of coeliac, (D. very thin but pot belly, irritable and behaviour and concentraition problems). My sister has been tested and came back negative but shes prepared to get my neice tested. My worry is that her tests will be negative despite the symptoms...
  13. thanks for the heads up
  14. Hey i love music too.. i was in a choir from age 7 to 14 and i had some amazing experiences i play the guitar, keyboard and i used to play the flute but the teacher had a go at me for being tired after half hour lessons saying i didnt practice enough even though i did at least half hour every night. (i couldnt help it .. i was always tired not just...
  15. Some people prefer to get a diagnosis simply because they want to be absolutely certain that it is celiac that they are dealing with. Another reason is that some schools wont profide gluten-free meals unless they have proof of an official diagnosis. Also in the UK you can get basic foods (bread pasta etc) free on perscription but you have to have an official...
  16. ok so i'm supposedly putting on weight (last time i was weighed i had put on 4lbs and that was 2 months ago).. but you can still see my hip bones and the outline of my ribs and spine clearly. I can get my hand up under my rib cage which cant be good. so my question is how can i be putting on weight if im not getting any bigger, i know it sounds dull...
  17. excellent point about having to be driven home ... i woke up to find the man in the oposite bed arguing with the nurse because he wanted to go home instead of waiting for his wife to pick him up.. he nearlly ended up having to be admitted.. you do not want to go there.
  18. i guess im lucky in this department i have naturally high calcium
  19. Welcome to the forum, sorry it took you a long time to get diagnosed but dont worry your not the only one, it took me a year. (It didnt help that i was asymptomatic and my biopsy was clear) Not everyone gets better straight away, it depends on the severity of your illness (which is more to do with how long its been active than how bad it is), and weather...
  20. ok ... my freinds sister was diagnosed with coeliac a while back .. a few days ago my freind (Chloe) said her sister (Genna) was wrongly diagnosed. i wasnt aware that was possible .. Me: Hows Genna? Chloe: ooh i forgot to tell you she doesnt have coeliac. Me: what .. i thought she tested positive Chloe:yea she did but after 5 months they retested...
  21. biopsies dont hurt at all, at the very least you will be under consious (mild) sedation. sometiemes they will completely knok you out (GA) but as far as i know its normally done under sedation. you dont feel anything and most of the people i talk to have no recolection of the procedure.. when you wake up you may feel a bit strange because you can remember...
  22. in the UK its our GIs or our GP(primary care doctors) job to monitor us for deficiencies and things like that, sorry to hear that you are going around in circles, i used to feel like that too, but it does get better, so keep your chin up and good luck.
  23. Just wanted to say welcome to the forum , im glad that you got your diagnosis.. the deficiency tests are a very good idea and checks on other family members would be good. Experts say that if one person has coeliac every 1 in 10 people in that family will also have it.. possibly more. Good luck. We are all here for you.
  24. hey matty welcome to the forum, Im glad you figgered out what was wrong Ursa is right you absoulutely MUST NOT continue to eat gluten, even though you dont feel the reaction it is still doing damage. (Many coeliacs are asymptomatic or have mild or vague symptoms.) whilest we all make mistakes and have thoses "oops"*headbang* moments, cheating is...
  25. I have only had problems from one person about the disease from one person (who i might add thinks that you bring bad things on yourselfs. After explaining everything to her she apologised. I dont think age has anything to do with it but maybe maturity.. all my freinds are 14 15 or 16 and only the one i mentioned has ever questioned me. Ive met ...
