ARCHIVED Gluten-free Dining In Seattle?
SofiEmiMom replied to westiepaws's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I live in Michigan but my brother is also a Celiac living in Seattle and eats at Cafe Flora all of the time and loves it. Here are some other places that are highly knowledgeable and/or have a gluten free menu: Tulio Ristorante and Wild Ginger downtown, P.F. Chang's China Bistro at Bellevue Square. Outback Steakhouse restaurants have gluten-free menus... -
Hello. My children have been diagnosed gluten intolerant through Enterolab and without going into the long story, my pediatrician is very supportive of the diagnosis. However, I know more about celiac/gluten intolerance than she does and I'm pretty much left on my own to how best keep my children healthy. I was wondering if any doctor has recommended Enzymes...

Hello. I'm going with my husband to Cancun in a few weeks for a business conference...wondering if anyone could recommend any good gluten-free restuarants. Thanks!

ARCHIVED Fever And Gluten Accident?
SofiEmiMom replied to kaylee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes! My daughters both spike a mild fever when they have accidental gluten ingestion. It goes away in 24 hours. Other symptoms are diarrhea, stomach discomfort, extreme lethergy, emotional outbursts. The next day they are completely fine. It's happened enough where I could trace it back to a gluten accident. Even though I can prove these things I still... -

SofiEmiMom replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hello. I'm from Michigan too...Macomb Twp. Here is a link to all of the Michigan celiac support groups. Open Original Shared Link I went to CMU too...little older though - graduated in '91 Fire up Chips!! -
I believe this is just a Michigan/Illinois chain...I was wondering if anyone has eaten their Lettuce DeLites (pita fillings in a lettuce wrap)? I wouldn't normally attempt it because of the Pita Dust flying around, but one of the restaurants is having family fun night with Dora and Spongebob (my children love both). I'm going to contact them, but was wondering...

ARCHIVED Celebrities With Celiac?
SofiEmiMom replied to lauderdalehawk44's topic in Publications & Publicity
My neighbor just told me today that two weeks ago she saw an episode of LIVE with Regis and Kelly and that Regis was saying how he now had to be on a diet where he couldn't eat anything with flour in it and how hard it is to not eat bread, pizza, etc. Anyone hear about that too? That's all she remembered, so hard to say if it's medical or voluntarily. -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And Diabetes Together
SofiEmiMom replied to Hearts's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hello. I was wondering from the Mom's who have children with celiac and diabetes...what types of symptoms were your children having that caused them to be tested for diabetes? My daughter who just turned 5 has been on a gluten-free diet for 1.5 years now since being diagnosed through Enterolab. My pediatrician supports the diagnosis. Well, for about 6... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Party's Are Hard For Mom
SofiEmiMom replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you everyone. And yes, Merika, you are right on all accounts and I appreciate your advice. I do long for my children to be 'normal' and I've realized that I need to change my way of thinking. I just don't know how to do that. I never talk negatively at all around my children, it's just how I feel inside and I realize that children pick up on that... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Party's Are Hard For Mom
SofiEmiMom replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We're casein free too, so that makes it all the more difficult. At a typical birthday party there is pizza, ice cream and cake. My children can't eat one single thing. Sigh. I feel like a catering service coming to these parties with my big 'ol bag of food. Lol. -
ARCHIVED Birthday Party's Are Hard For Mom
SofiEmiMom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi everyone. I wanted to seek some advice. My just turned 5 year old has been invited to several birthday parties lately. I have such a hard time with it. She quietly asks me if she could please have some of the birthday cake, knowing she can't, but wants it so badly. I always bring her a cupcake but went so far recently to make a 'mini' cake decorated... -
Hello. I just recently approached my Pastor about this issue, as well. I am Lutheran, Missouri Synod. My Pastor didn't even hesitate when it came to accomodating me. I expalined to him what Celiac was and the seriousness of it. What he and the Board of Elders came up with is this: I bought a box of the Ener-G communion wafers, mentioned in the above...

ARCHIVED Inhaled Gluten Cause Reaction?
SofiEmiMom replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you so much Gina! That was such a nice thing to say. We Mom's don't get much recognition for our hard work..thank you for your kind words. Thank you for the advice, as well. I did document everything, but I haven't given it to the Principal yet. Great point about the substitute teacher, I hadn't thought of that. I did get confirmation from... -
ARCHIVED Great Product For Athletes
SofiEmiMom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey all you gluten free athletes. I just came across a wonderful product. I recently started a strength training program and searched high and low for some energy bars and protein powder to complement my diet. I'm Celiac with multiple food allergies. If egg is a problem, these products aren't for you, but they do sell some dairy protein items if you're... -
ARCHIVED Inhaled Gluten Cause Reaction?
SofiEmiMom replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I found them through the Canadian Celiac Association. I'm American, but I couldn't find any of the groups/associations in the states that had a pamphlet specifically for Teachers. The toll free number to order is 1-800-363-7296. The pamphlet is nice because it has a section about "in the classroom' that details ways in which we seek the assistance of... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Negative For Cd
SofiEmiMom replied to arismama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
At 14 months my youngest daughter had the biopsy which was negative. The doctor suspected cystic fibrosis, so she had the sweat test - came back negative. I was so scared and nervous about the CF test, so I know how you must be feeling. After all of these tests my daughter was still very, very ill (12 diarrhea diapers per day, never sleeping, always crying... -
ARCHIVED Inhaled Gluten Cause Reaction?
SofiEmiMom replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you, thank you everyone! I have good news. We met with the teacher, and I feel that it was very successful. The approach I took was not only the Celiac angle, but a 'healthy nutrition' angle which made it seem like a much bigger issue than simply about my child. First I provided a fair amount of documentation about Celiac (not too much to overwhelm... -
ARCHIVED Inhaled Gluten Cause Reaction?
SofiEmiMom replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you everyone. I guess I just needed to have my feelings reaffirmed. Yesterday, I actually spoke to a Mother who has a gluten intolerant child who went through our schools kindergarten with this cook day. It made me question myself even more because after unsuccessfully trying to get the kindergarten teacher to budge on her methods, she just let her... -
ARCHIVED I Just Wanted To Say....
SofiEmiMom replied to mrsfish-94's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was DNA tested and it came back negative. She was very, very sick at 14 months old and when we put her on a gluten free diet within 5 days all of her symptoms went away. It was like a miracle. Our doctor has diagnosed her Celiac because of the dramatic and obvious improvement. I questioned the DNA test too, but not all celiac genes have been... -
ARCHIVED Inhaled Gluten Cause Reaction?
SofiEmiMom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not sure if this is the best place for this question..but, my daughter is celiac and will be starting kindergarten next year. There is only one kindergarten class in her school and every Friday they have 'cook' day. The children all participate in making something. Generally, they make something to bake which has flour in it. My question is, would... -
Two weeks ago I went to a homeopathic doctor for the first time as I have had no luck with traditional medicine. The traditional docs basically kept telling me 'live with it', you have Celiac and that's just how it goes. This homeopath is also a D.O. who swayed from traditional medicine because he said traditional medicine focuses on lists pertaining to...

Myself and my children are intolerant to gluten, casein, soy and corn - that being said, it is extremely difficult to eat out. Today we went to the Baptism of one of my husband's relatives new baby. I had RSVP'd and said that we would be at the church but we wouldn't be attending the dinner afterwards which was at an Italian Restaurant. I had gotten the...

ARCHIVED Pediatrician Called About Endo Results
SofiEmiMom replied to sashabetty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My now two year old had a biopsy at 14 months that was negative. My intuition told me this was wrong. I had her tested by Enterolab and it was positive for gluten intolerance. She has had some gluten accidents and it isn't pretty. It's so obvious that she is gluten intolerant - she goes from a happy, content, energetic child to a non-stop crying, clingy...
