I am from Michigan but just returned from a weekend trip from San Jose, California (joined my husband there while on a business trip). We came across some great restuarants with fantastic gluten-free options while there and I didn't have a reaction. First is Sino (sinorestaurant.com) on Santana Row in San Jose. Chef Barney said that he gets 2-3 gluten...

Hello! Has anyone eaten at any of the restaurants on Santa Row in San Jose, CA? There are some great restaurants and was wondering if anyone has had any experiences eating gluten-free here? The Indian restaurant looks great and there is also a Maggiano's...don't they have a gluten-free menu?

wow! I'm amazed at this. We have a bunch of celiacs in our family including myself, dad, and two children. We made the connection about a year ago with the McDonalds fries and stopped eating them. But of course, we always second guessed ourselves and my husband thought I was being 'mean' to deny our kids some 'normal' kid food and that it was in my head...

Any recommendations for places to eat in the San Francisco or San Jose areas?

We just got back from our first trip to Disney. We went last week for 5 days. Myself and my two daughters aged 3 and 5 are Celiac. We also eat casein free, peanut and tree nut free. One word about our experience....AMAZING!!!!! I swear, I would live in Disney if I could! I felt like a normal part of society there. My children felt like princesses....

ARCHIVED Who's From Michigan?
SofiEmiMom replied to StrongerToday's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Macomb Township, Michigan. Myself and my two young daughters have Celiac. -
My daughter is gluten intolerant, and has been invited to a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese's. She obviously cannot eat there and I will bring her food, but I was wondering if anyone has taken their Celiac child to this place? If so, did you think it was safe? I have this vision of little pizza covered hands smearing all over everything.

ARCHIVED Fever
SofiEmiMom replied to katerinvon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Both of my daugters are gluten intolerant (aged 3 and 5) and they have had accidental ingestions enough times that I know what a typical reaction is. They get a fever everytime. It can last from 1 hour to as much as 24 hours, but usually not more than that. So yes, I can say for certain in my children that a gluten reaction involves a fever. -

ARCHIVED Fruit Juice
SofiEmiMom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are there any kids fruit juices that would not be gluten-free? I'm looking ahead to the school year here and my children both have snack time. They always bring their own snack (while the rest of the class eats the snack brought in by one parent), but I was wondering if I could let them have the juice that the rest of the class drinks. The school requires... -
Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows of a gluten free pita product? I met with my daughters kindergarten teacher to go over any and all projects involving food and she has a pita pocket recipe she wanted to do with the kids. Also does anyone know of a tortilla that is made out of gluten-free flour, rather than corn? Any info is greatly appreciated....

ARCHIVED Good Milk Substitute For Kids?
SofiEmiMom replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've tried the Vance's DariFree..it is loaded with sugar. My kids loved it, of course, but where hyper crazy after consumption. After trying *many* kinds of casein free milks, we settled on Whole Foods 365 brand Organic Rice Milk Vanilla flavor. I use the Plain for recipes. It's a great milk - no aftertaste. My husband liked it so much he stopped drinking... -
ARCHIVED Going To Italy Next Week...any Suggestions?
SofiEmiMom replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
My husband was in Italy this past May (for a funeral unfortunately), but he checked out the gluten-free status of things since we will be traveling there with our children in a couple of years to visit...myself and my two girls are celiac. There is a fairly large selection of gluten-free foods in all of the Pharmacia's. My husband said that the pharmacists... -

ARCHIVED Time To Diagnosis
SofiEmiMom replied to lisabp's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
For my youngest daughter she was diagnosed at 14 months. Her pediatrician kept saying all of her problems were 'behavioral'. After having gone through 14 months of her never sleeping for more than an hour at a time (she would wake up screaming constantly), her stomach was so bloated it looked like a giant balloon, and 15+ diarrhea diapers per day I stormed... -
My husband and I just returned from an amazing trip to the Ritz Carlton Cancun. The name may indicate $$$, but it wasn't the case. We had amazing meals, most around $30 for the both of us. I'm a very sensitive Celiac and this was the third trip we've taken since my diagnosis (2 years in September). I had gotten sick on the two previous trips. This trip...

ARCHIVED Dental Cleaning
SofiEmiMom replied to celiacfreeman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The paste my dentist office uses is ok but it's not at my kids. They started using pumice and water on my kids but I later read that it can be too abrasive on the enamel. Now my kids' dentist just polish with regular Crest toothpaste. The Flouride in my office and my kids is not gluten-free so we just don't get the flouride treatment. In both offices... -

I just bought this new childrens book about celiac disease and the foreword at the front of the book is by Dr. Alessio Fasano who, as a lot of people on this board know, is the Director for the Center of Celiac Research at the University of Maryland. His direct quote: "Shake the tree in which one family member has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and...

Because it's specific to kids, I wanted to post here instead of the gluten-free foods section. I was thrilled when I found these. My daughter is gluten intolerant, allergic to dairy, peanuts and pecans. These 'ice cream' cups and creamy popsicles are gluten free, peanut/nut free, egg free, soy free, and dairy free! They look really fun and my daughter...

Maybe your doctor could recommend a good one for your Father...great minds think a like and hang out together so maybe she would have someone in mind. As for not being genetic, send your Dad's doctor over to my house for dinner. Myself, my father, brother, and two young children all have Celiac:). My opinion of doctors is not very high after having been...
