ARCHIVED Symptoms Sound Familiar?
mhb replied to quentin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd venture to guess that 10-20 years from now everything we think about gluten/celiac will look different from today, on the whole. Some of what we "know" now will be part of the picture, some things not. Part of me wonders why do "any" testing if I feel better. In the future it will all be so much more advanced, with fewer false negative and positive results... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Sound Familiar?

Just FYI, I am reading Peter Green's book "Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic", and in it he says you *can* do a biopsy within 6 months of going gluten-free - that it takes 6 mo. to a year for the intestine to heal. He is director of Columbia's Celiac research and treatment center and has focused on this for 15 years. There may be other professional opinions... -
I'm in Madison, WI. Anyone have a good celiac specialist they know of here who can do endoscopy?

ARCHIVED Anyone Biopsied W/in 6 Mo. Off Gluten? Plus Fertility ?s
mhb posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am reading Peter Green's 2006 book "Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic." I was surprised to read he feels you can biopsy w/in first 6 months off gluten, that it takes 6 mo. to 1 yr. for the tissue to heal. Well I'm about 4 mo. to the day and had written off a chance at a biopsy 'til now. I just wonder if others hear conflicting info about this time frame... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Constipation Problems?
mhb replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you tried coconut oil? It's quite powerful at killing unhealthy organisms in the gut, I think sometimes we get rid of food irritants but forget that a lot of gut dysbiosis remains and needs a lot of attention too. Just something else to try. -

At least one of the parts of raw milk kefir that helps with elimination is all the enzymes it is loaded with. But you can get live enzymes in your diet from sources other than cultured dairy products. If you are not already aware of it, start learning about fresh fermented foods which have many enzymes aiding digestion and other bodily processes that have... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Constipation Problems?

I'm not sure who this question is directed to, but I wanted to get back about my post about raw milk kefir anyway. I realized after posting it that a lot of people on this list probably can't eat dairy. But just for those who might read it and are flexible about dairy, I wanted to add for those who don't know that many people who can't eat pasteurized dairy... -

This sounds like me exactly. Here's the thing: raw milk kefir did the trick! It must be raw. Commercial pasteurized kefir did not work for me. Nor pasteurized yogurts. Raw milk has loads of enzymes and additional healthy bacteria that assists. The only other dairy I'm eating is cultured raw milk butter. I can't handle pasteurized milk products but this raw... -
ARCHIVED Could I Be Celiac?

I take it back ... a little while after eating the bagel (a few hours?) I felt sick to my stomach. I was on my way to eat lunch with my mother-in-law at Perkins (her favorite). So I had gluten-free Egg Beaters and "breakfast potatoes" and that seemed to "cover it up" along with focus on conversation. I don't get strong reactions, but I have consistently been... -

I found out about this testing issues after going gluten-free, but I'm one of those who, because of all the ambiguities in the various tests, is comfortable just staying away if I feel better, and overall I really do. I may do the genetic test as a way of determining how worried I should be about the occasional slip-up. Nevertheless, i've read the reasons... -

Now almost 3 months gluten and mostly casein free (doing raw milk kiefer), I find I can sometimes eat gluten without any *noticeable8 consequence. My PCOS symptoms are better (regular periods without meds!) but I also get acupuncture now and don't know if it's that. Overall though, chronic bloatoing *gone*, constipation only really helped with raw milk kiefer... -
Wish there were a response to this question. I think a couple people indicated the bread machine breads are better. Anyone? How much do those mixes cost? Aren't they about the same as buying gluten-free bread pre-made, if not more? So far I'm used to not eating any bread anymore so I might be best off that way - pre-soaked, cooked whole gluten-free grains...

ARCHIVED Is There Any Link Between Celiac And Polycystic Ovaries
mhb replied to em4778's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for this. Since that post I discovered my bloating is significantly caused by yeast. Coconut oil and Enzymemedica's Candiasis is helping the part of the bloating that gluten-free/CF didn't. I did have PCOS symptoms before any yeast problems, but maybe one thing led to another. -

I would love to hear any updates on this. I've been treated for PCOS for years due to symptoms and hormone levels, though no insulin resistance upon testing. I went gluten-free/DF 5/8/08 and went off the metformin to see what would happen. Two weeks later my period came on time and I'm hoping it will continue to. However, I am breaking out a lot, and that... -

Yowza, monster thread! Glad you're making progress Rachel. You have what it takes to get to the bottom of things. Here's for some good luck along with all your efforts! I am breaking from eliminations to try acupuncture and Chinese herbs for my bloating and constipation. Also the Okinawa diet which did wonders for my bloating last winter. Turns out it's... -

Wow Nora, thanks for all that! Another whole world now to be aware of - toxic metal buildup. What next? Were you answering for Rachel? After I posted, the replies came up on a whole new page of I guess the same thread, but with an entirely different dialog taking place. Confusing. Maybe I thought I'd finished the thread but there were more pages, and my post... -

Rachel, I found this thread searching for something else. (Don't recall what.) Thank you for sharing your story; it's been helpful to me. gluten-free/DF is not enough. I need to check out corn since it seems everything causes some bloating. I don't have nearly the severe issues you've suffered but your posts help me process nonetheless. Anyway, it's been... -
ARCHIVED Recent gluten-free - New Reactions To Gluten?
mhb posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been gluten-free about 45 days, DF for a couple weeks. I got glutened twice recently at restaurants. Before going gluten-free/DF my symptom was chronic major bloating not responsive to anything. gluten-free helped! When I first got glutened at a restaurant, I got somewhat bloated but mostly was sick to my stomach, which eventually subsided. Next time... -
ARCHIVED Ketchup
mhb replied to Lillyth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Update: from Heinz website FAQ: Where can I find gluten-free products? Heinz Ketchup and Heinz Organic Ketchup do not contain any gluten (the distilled vinegar used is from corn sources). Also, Wine Vinegar, Distilled White Vinegar and Apple Cider Vinegar are gluten-free. Heinz Hot & Spicy Ketchup Kick'rs is gluten-free as well. -
ARCHIVED Could I Be Celiac?

Update: Went off the Chinese herbs and was better than before going off gluten and then the herbs. But while "deep" inside I felt better off gluten, I was still somewhat bloated, though not as much as before going off gluten. So I started eliminating dairy and discovered it was the second problem, incl, no yogurt or goat milk products ( I'd hoped goat's milk... -

Confusion About Silent Celiac
mhb posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I am gluten-free for a little over a week. While feeling better overall, my bloating (main symptom) still kicks in, possibly due to other sensitivities I am trying to identify. Somewhere i got the understanding that some people have silent celiac (no observable villi damage), but I also got the notion that some people react to gluten and are not *any... -

Thanks for the replies. I understand your point. I do have more energy lately but also have other factors helping ... acupuncture, not working, more exercise, off coffee ... I was getting much better already before going off gluten about 48 hours ago. Do have lots of consistently high energy the last several days. But, I am still soooo bloated. How long does... -

Thanks. Is the malabsorption of all nutrients or just certain ones? I am overall very healthy and don't suffer fatigue unless there's an obvious reason.
