  1. Oh ya, 15 billion probiotics (Floragen 3). They don't say drink with water but I will now and see if that helps.
  2. This may be it. This morning when I noticed an immediate reaction I downed about 10 oz of water. I'll keep working this hypothesis and see what happens. meanwhile, see the 11/15/08 article on this site titled "'Atypical' GI Symptoms on the Rise Among Gluten-Free Celiac Patients": "The team noted that the gastrointestinal symptoms experienced by group I...
  3. I never had the GERd until recently, long after removing gluten. It's mild. I noticed it right after swallowing a gelcap pill this morning, and it seemed to come back after reading your post and thinking about it! ;-)
  4. Been off gluten and dairy since June (plus soy, beans, eggplant and potatoes). Bloating and constipation vastly improved, periods now regular and acne all but gone. Using Florajen 3 about three weeks now. Digestion even better. Ditto tryptophan for sleep. Sometime in last 4 weeks or so I started "silent" GERD (no pain or heartburn - just like a bubble of...
  5. Gentleheart, How are you doing with this? I went GFDF in early June 08, and over the last month or so (Nov) I'm getting your exact problem. Like you, never had it before. Bummer. Has yours resolved? I have not had an endoscopy. Now there's research saying caffeine and chocolate are not the problem. Don't know what to believe and what to eliminate. I'm off...
  6. Thanks! I'm headed that way in December! Very helpful that you posted this!
  7. Okay, so we're headed for Marco Is. in December. Plan to take a drive to Naples and Sannibel, so this thread is so helpful. Is there anything on Marco Is. itself in the way of restaurants or stores for gluten-free? We will have a kitchen, but it would be nice to know if I can go out. TIA!
  8. Current issue has GFDF holiday recipes. I get it at Whole Foods.
  9. See this page, Open Original Shared Link, for more about premature ovarian failure. I had never heard of this until the post on this thread so I had to do a little searching. I don't get the feeling that is what I have. It sounds like something where you do fine for a while but your follicles dope out on you at a very early age (<40 instead of regular...
  10. Your situation sounds a lot like mine. My period returned immediately after stopping gluten. Well, not immediately, but within the first month, and has been regular, give or take two or three days, six times since then. I am still sort of in shock that it was gluten all these years. I also had no visible cysts. But I have had a lot of acne which I have determined...
  11. I have read that going gluten free doesn't necessarily "fix" autoimmune disorders once you have them, but prevents them or stops worsening if they are gluten-related. I have always wondered whether the joint pain celiacs get because of gluten is arthritis or something else?
  12. Hi ShayFL, I'm curious what you know of the melanoma link. I read an abstract at PubMed saying celiacs have 5x the risk for melanoma. At the end of the actual article it said they couldn't explain this but that it may just be attributable to rising rates of melanoma generally. Do you know of anything else related to this?
  13. I read that Celiacs have five times the rate of melanoma. The researchers did not know why, but commented that it must be interpreted in the context of rising melanoma rates generally. Another post indicated that a gene predisposing to celiac also predisposes to melanoma. I read that a cytokine gene is linked with melanoma, and I believe the gluten reaction...
  14. I clearly have had gluten related infertility all my life ... never a regular period (by a looooong shot) until I went off gluten. Since then 6 in a row. Was treated for PCOS all those years instead. I went off gluten without testing, and I'm clear I belong off it, but I wonder ... I keep reading that celiac can cause infertility, but does anyone know of...
  15. Thanks for all the confirmation. My good days are soooo good, but since I'm in perimenopause, I get a lot of nights with poor sleep, and migraines, and frequent hunger attacks during PMS, all of which really throw me off track. So I'm trying to balance all the gluten-free lifestyle (so much more thinking going into eating and food prep!) with all that. I...
  16. Then again, in my case, over the years I've seen four endos and three internists (moved a lot) for very irregular periods and adult acne. They couldn't agree whether I had PCOS or not, but BCPs and Metformin worked and I took first the one, then the other, for years. Found out on my own that gluten can cause menstrual problems, went off it (and the PCOS meds...
  17. Do most people have the same symptomatic reaction to gluten each time they are glutened? It seems like sometimes I get a headache, sometimes loose stools, sometimes very bloated, but not usually all three.
  18. I am having good success using bitters from Italy. Years ago I tried the "Swedish Bitters" but they did not work for me. Recently I learned about "Dolce Digestivo". It has no sugar, alcohol or preservatives and is working well. The box says it has natural flavors and natural caramel color, but I called the distributor and they assured me, after researching...
  19. Welcome. I also am a big fan of unprocessed foods, as simple as possible and it's incredible how flavorful things are if you just spend a little more for good tomatoes, good sea salt, good vinegar, good olive oil, and so on ... I eat out so much less often but I am quite content with that because I am eating so much healthier at home. I spend a little more...
  20. I have heard a number of times that reactions can be stronger once going off gluten. In my case I even have different symptoms, getting slightly nauseous which was never a symptom before. I think I might also have experienced what you describe as having stronger reactions to small amounts of exposure with larger reactions to less exposure, or vice versa,...
  21. You really need carbs, but they don't need to have yeast. Eating almost nothing but protein and veggies would make nearly anyone lose a lot of weight, and also make you susceptible to the ketone problems (I don't know much about that. Others?). You probably need more calories through carbos (the 3rd needed macronutrient). Because your body doesn't get enough...
  22. Do you know which part of milk can cause acne in some people, the casein or the lactose?
  23. I was wondering if others noticed increasing mental clarity after going off gluten, and did it keep improving over a certain period of time. It just seems like I'm a better reader and my memory is better and I have much more interest in gaining knowledge and confidence that I can remember it and it's worth paying attention. It's not that I walked around without...
  24. Did anyone see this recent news article at the NIH celiac awareness website Open Original Shared Link? Seven New Gene Regions Implicated in Celiac Disease An international team of researchers has discovered seven additional gene regions that increase the risk for celiac disease, bringing the total number of known risk regions to nine. Four of the risk...
  25. I ate out at an unfamiliar restaurant while traveling and the menu hanging on the wall said the hamburgers were 100% Angus. I think I had a reaction the next day but I'm not sure whether to attribute it to this hamburger. I called the restaurant and asked if their hamburger had any fillers and they didn't know much about what I was talking about but said...
