  1. I have 2 younger children, my youngest is Celiac. So, I am not speaking from experience of having an 8 year old, but just an idea...why not leave it up to him? Ask him if he wants to go, and prepare him for the fact that he needs to bring his own food. I am sure you have explained this whole "gluten attacking his body" type of thing to him, so why not explain...
  2. I recently recieved a great tip from another mom with a Celiac child. Our biggest struggle with this new life of ours, is eating out. We ask for my daughters food to be microwaved in the back, and half of all restaurants say they don't have one, or they can't heat up my daughter's food because of legal issues (I am assuming the matter of possible lawsuits...
  3. I am sitting here with blurry eyes trying to read the screen! My 17 month old went through this 3 months ago, and although she was fine once the procedure was over, it was heartrenching going through it. Our day sounded a lot like yours, and maybe that is why I cried when I read your post. My daughter is also a thumb sucker, and so they put the IV in her...

    ARCHIVED Applebee's

VERY INTERESTING!!!!! I just sent Applebees an email, and was disappointed with the response, so I was about to start a new thread, and I saw this at the bottom! I cut and pasted their response, and then my response to their bad news... Applebees Wrote: Dear Christi, Thanks for your recent request for a list of gluten-free menu items available at...
  5. Veggie Pirate's Booty from Trader Joes. I am not sure if it is sold exclusively at Trader Joes, but that is the only place I have found it! My 17 month old eats them up!
  6. What about making a few meals and seperate them into individual serving containers, and hopefully somewhere there is an extra freezer you can use in the dorms somewhere! You can store them there, and then pull one out and microwave it when you are ready to eat. If they don't find an extra space in a freezer somewhere...contact the disabilities liason like...
  7. This is interesting! We are going on a field trip Thursday, and have a hay ride planned. Anyone who knows anything about this, please respond! Thanks for the thread starter!

    ARCHIVED Fair Food?

Yes, Sea World San Diego! My daughter had the cotton candy, and had no reaction...and she usually has a reaction to even a crumb on bread! So, I would say eat 3 bags if you wish! You are on vacation!!! As for gluten-free places...my in-laws live there, so we usually eat at their house, or bring something for my gluten-free daughter. Sorry I don't have any...
  9. Your posting made me laugh! I haven't checked with the ingredients on board books yet! Tee hee! I have a 16 month old who has celiac disease. She manages to get her mouth on quite a few things that I have a feeling are not gluten-free. The only thing that keeps me from losing my mind, is the fact that I know in a couple of years, she will know not to put...

    ARCHIVED Fair Food?

Ahhh! Your messages sent chills up my spine, and a smile on my face! Half of the fun of attending fairs, or going to amusement parks, is the food! I am happy to hear that my daughter will still be able to enjoy a couple of her favorites! Thanks tons for the info!

    ARCHIVED Fair Food?

Does anybody know anything about cotton candy, or shaved ice flavoring? Is there 1 company that usually makes this stuff? We recently went to Sea World, and my Celiac toddler saw the cotton candy and went nuts! I got it for her, but then felt so guilty about not knowing for sure what made it pink or blue. I know sugar is the base for the "cotton" but what...
  12. Thanks for the replies. I will call the Dr. tomorrow. They were supposed to call me today, but I have a feeling the Dr. didn't want to face the news that he knows nothing about it!
  13. My 14 month old was recently diagnosed, so I had the blood work done last week. The lab told me today that the Antigliadin came back positive, so the rest of the tests were cancelled. Should they have been canceled? I thought that we need to look at all the different results to get a more accurate diagnoses. What do we do now? My primary care physician...
  14. I read an idea from a gluten free book for Toll House Cookies. Just replace the flour with Gluten Free Cookie Mix. So, I bought the Gluten Free Pantry Cake and Cookie Mix and did exactly like the Toll House recipe said, but didn't add the flour or baking soda (the cookie mix already had it in it). The dough tasted great, but after baked, they flatened SO...
  15. I emailed Panda Express for info on any gluten-free items on their menu, and sadly, the reply stated that not 1 of their dishes are gluten-free. My Celiac daughter loved eating there before she was dx, and now it looks like we will no longer be able to go! Isn't all steamed rice gluten-free? I remember reading something awhile back about being careful about...
  16. My daughters symptoms started out as diarrhea at 13 months old. The only symptoms she had were loose (very loose) stools, large tummy, and being clingy. Other than that, she was happy when held, and slept a lot too. She was always in the 5th percentile in her weight. After 3 weeks of consistent diarrhea, we took her in, and my pediatrician sent her to the...
  17. I agree! If it is possible, DEMAND that a Celiac test be done. I am fueling right now because of your Dr.'s treating you like a paranoid mom. When we got the news that our daughter's test came back positive, I cried for 2 reasons. 1) She had the disease 2) I was happy we had an answer, and we could start feeding her what she needs to be eating, and get her...
  18. Oh Amy! You made my eyes tear up so bad, I couldn't even see the screen! I has to dry them in order to post my response! We found out almost 3 weeks ago, and my reaction was the same! Food? What will I feed her? Since then, reading these posts, I have come to the same reaction. When people ask me how we are all doing with this, my response is, "its just food...
  19. My daughter has only been gluten-free since 3 weeks ago, but I have read a lot. In the "Kids with Celiac Disease" book, it recommends to NOT bake gluten-free cupcakes, etc for classmates, because there will always be one kid who says, "Yuck!" The birthday kid will then be embarrased over "his food" being yucky. Just a thought! The author mentioned bringing...
  20. Thanks for the introductions! This is such a scary thing for my family to be going through, and having this forum available makes me feel more at ease about this diagnoses. The GI Dr. first said to put her back on Gluten for a few weeks and then do a biopsy, but then when I told her my reservations on going back to the "old Abbey". the sad, hurting, bloated...
  21. I have been peeking in on this forum since my daughter has been through testing the past 3 weeks. We found out earlier this week, that yes, her blood tests came back positive, and she has Celiac Disease. Her biopsy is scheduled for next week, but it is a no brainer in our book. Both tests came back positive, and since changing her diet to gluten-free, her...
