  1. I had my first gluten free Thanksgiving! We had 4 Celiacs at the house so the entire meal was completely gluten free! The best part is that nobody missed a thing...even the gluten eaters. We had tons of food and a variety of delicious things for everyone to enjoy. Here is a list of the amazing food we had...all completely homemade: starters: stuffed dates...
  2. I was recently informed by a nutritionist that once flour is introduced into the air it takes a full 48 hours to "fall" out of the air and land on surfaces. So, even if you cleaned up very carefully at the time, there still may have been mix in the air. Mix may have fallen onto surfaces after you finished cleaning and stopped being so careful. There is NO...
  3. Why does it have to be the GIRL gourmet? Why not just Gourmet....and come in a genfer neutral color like red or teal? My son would get a kick out of this. Actually, he probably wouldn't even care that its pink. It just bugs me that its aimed at girls. I like a guy that can bake a cake...especially a gluten free cake!
  4. they are like Open Original Shared Link so I guess the tops might be a problem.
  5. Since my son and I have been diagnosed with celiac disease I am making the whole house gluten free. I tossed all my old baking ingredients and I'm replacing them with gluten free versions. I emptied all my canisters (plastic) and ran them through the dishwasher. Can I use them for the new gluten free supplies or should I just toss them out? If I have to replace...
  6. After looking up the norms for those results, I saw that they were all borderline high or low. There were no drastic numbers. At least now we are scheduling the scopes so we'll get a better idea. If those are negative we'll move to the next thing. I will probably try making them gluten free even if the biopsies are negative just based on my own success. I...
  7. We did the sweat test and it was negative! So thats good news, no CF. Now we have to schedule a gastroscopy and sigmoidoscopy for both kids. Maybe we can finally learn something that will help them!
  8. Your lab results look a lot like mine did. After 4 treatments of IV iron and getting gluten out of my diet I feel so much better. It was a pain to make the time top go and have the treatments but it really is worth it. The energy you will have after is amazing. My levels are still on the lower side so we're just keeping an eye on things for now. I think it...
  9. Im glad they are doing the testing. I really have no reason to believe it is CF. The most obvious reason is that every child born is MA is screened before leaving the hospital. He was not positive at that time. Also, he does not have the salty skin, family history, or any pulmonary issues at all. However, I understand the need for the testing. Its just something...
  10. Ok so I got the results from the pedi today. Unfortunately, there were no normal values ranges listed, only the results. They were flagged as high (H) or low (L) if they were abnormal. Here are some of the numbers that concern me. For Braedon 10 months: MCV 73.8 L MCH 25.6 L HDW 2.70 L absolute eosinophil count 0.43 H Potassium 4.52 H Glucose...
  11. I'm waiting for the specialist to call me back now. I do plan on picking up copies of everything at the pedi today. As of last night the pedi was saying he still didn't have everything from the specialist yet. I'm going to call there and see if the rest came in yet. If not I'll call and harass the hospital.....AGAIN!
  12. I'm so frustrated I could scream! I just got off the phone with the boys' pedi and that got me no where! He basically is blowing me off and telling me to take all questions to the gi specialist. He has the lab results and he's telling me they look "ok". Really, a fecal fat of 42% is ok? WOW! Could have fooled me! Now they're both on the inaccuracy kick. Ok...
  13. His regular pedi ordered IGA and TTG initially and we learned that he is IGA deficient. That said, I don't think the answer is going to lie in the bloodwork anyway.
  14. After my recent diagnosis I decided it was important to have my kids tested too. The results of the Celiac panel are not back yet. However, the stool results have come back. The baby's results are very high. Fecal fat 42% normal range is less than 20%! This would make sense because I have been telling the doctor for the longest time that the baby's...
  15. Take the iron supplements for a while and see if you feel better. Get tested again in a month or two and see if it goes up. If things don't improve, request an infusion. I feel so much better. You may even want to schedule an appointment with a hematologist. You may get better advice there.
  16. Are you actually anemic or are you iron deficient? I know they are used the same way but they are a bit different. Anemic is low hemoglobin while iron deficient is low iron/ferritin levels. I was iron deficient, with very low ferritin (iron stores) and low saturation. I had to go for weekly iron infusions for a month. The hematologist figures I will have...
  17. Ok thanks. That list is a help. I have a feeling I'll be shopping with a few lists for a while. Thats ok, I'm sure it gets easier.
  18. Ok, so I went shopping today and I was reading labels very carefuly. I was having some trouble trying to decipher what the labels really meant and how safe the products were. For insatance, is gluten free the same as gluten free ingredients? And, if something seems to be gluten free when reading the ingredients does that automatically make it safe,...
  19. Wow. Its scary huh?
  20. I'm trying to ask him to pinpoint what things make him feel bad. I think kids are more in tune with their bodies than we give them credit for.
  21. Thats what we are trying to do now. The first thing is to rule in or out the lactose intolerance. Once we have that established we can move onto other things.
  22. Juice usually doesn't bother him. The past two nights he threw up he hadn't had the same things to eat and he ate nothing new. Thats what makes me wonder why it happens only every few weeks. You would thinkif it was a common ingredient it would be all the time. Maybe it has to do with the amount? Thanks for your suggestions and concern.
  23. Thanks for the responses. I realize diarrhea is not normal, but it was always attributed to the lactose intolerance. That is why I want a clear diagnosis of lactose intolerance...I scheduled a breath test so we can see how that figures into things. As far using common sense to take him off something that is making him sick.....I want to know what is making...
  24. I suppose that is good to know. Like you said, unlikely, but still a good thing to tuck away in my mind.
  25. My seven year old has been tested for celiac through a blood test. He tested negative but his iga was on the lower side so we have to run the other tests to be sure. I am meeting resistance through his Pediatrician. I have tested positive for the gene myself and we have a family hx. Anyhow, he was diagnosed as lactose intolerant as an infant but not formal...
