  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Blue Diamond Nut Thins. I can eat 'em by the box. Toasted corn tortillas with cheese. We just found Kinikinnick pizza crusts -- I can haz pizza!
  3. Questions I've had (don't know if they'd be covered under other topics): The gluten-free kitchen: What has to be changed? How do you prevent cross-contamination? Talking about gluten: How to convince your first degree relatives to just get the bleepin' blood test.
  4. I gotta confess, my family jokes about cross-contamination. We call it "Cross-Contamination: The Glutening", like it was a cheesy monster movie on the Sci-Fi Channel (I try to do the Don LaFontaine voice, but I'm a bit too... female for it to work. ) My daughter will hand me a glass of water, then ask, "Are you sure it's gluten-free?" But, we're kidding...
  5. I'm here for my pat on the back: friends came over for dinner last night and brought my absolute favorite french bread (and some pretty good beer) and I passed on both of them. Yay, me!
  6. Another anemic here; had the endoscopy to look for internal bleeding, found celiac instead. I didn't think I had symptoms, until I noticed how much less gas 'n' bloating I had...
  7. Three cheers, two thumbs up, and a pat on the back for flutterby!
  8. I'm another anemic celiac... 1) My low # so far has been 9. I can't imagine what 4.9 feels like. Wowzers. 2) I am a very lucky nerd; it was the hematologist/oncologist who sent me to the gastroenterologist for the endoscopy after my first visit. (Of course, she was thinking cancer, which made hearing celiac instead almost a relief.) 3) Six...
  9. I like this equation. Right now I'm getting a feeling of control over my situation by working on the cross contamination thing. Hopefully it doesn't kick over into a full-blown obsession.
  10. I'm calling dibs on the entire toaster oven, 'cause I'm mean like that. (Also, I can put my toast on aluminum foil as an added barrier against the dreaded cross contamination.) The toaster's at least 20 years old; I'm not going to try to decon it.
  11. Y'know, I was going to ask that, too... I'll break it to him gently. edit to add: um, will we have to get a new crock pot, too? Dang, this dx is getting spendy...
  12. My husband just called me at work, he found a Regal Kitchenpro K6773 breadmaker at a yard sale for $1.00... but it doesn't have a manual. The internets have been very uncooperative; any ideas where I could find a manual? Thanks!
  13. Ack, I didn't think of the microwave. I'm in a small department, we only share what we want to share. I may have a celiac moment* the first time somebody brings donuts, though... *that's what I'm calling the "cry like Lucille Ball when I realize that I'll never have (tasty thing) again in it's gluten-containing form". It's a lot shorter.
  14. Thanks. I'm feeling better now that I've clorox-d everything within touching distance of my desk. (Okay, not the whiteboard or the monitors.) I'm only a bit of a control freak, really... Since my husband is VERY supportive, and does the cooking for my mom now, at least I know the food served will be safe. And I've grown used to my mom giving me that...
  15. So, I've briefed my husband on decontaminating the kitchen and avoiding cross contamination there. However, I eat at my desk at work. I've already taken the cleaning wipes to my keyboard and mouse, and I should probably get the outside of my coffee cup. I'm looking at the work surface and thinking "UNCLEAN!!!". Oh, and the phone. And probably everything...
  16. I'm O-. Tangentially, my mom is going nuts trying to figure out who the heck I inherited this from. We usually blame gut problems on my dad's side of the family, as they aren't around to defend themselves. Norma gluten free for (checks system clock) 45 minutes.
  17. There was a recipe for gluten-free russian tea cakes! Christmas is saved! (Hey, I've had a whole day to get used to my new life, I'll take any happiness I can, even if it's six months early. )
  18. PS just heard from the PA at the doctor's office, she agrees with you that I should start right away. To the grocery store!
  19. Thanks! My husband and I had a good discussion about this last night, and he agrees with you. Since he's our stay at home parent, and therefore does all the shopping and 99% of the cooking (somewhere I turned into Ward Cleaver, go figure), I feel very fortunate to have his buy-in and enthusiastic support in this.
  20. I got "that call" this morning from the doctor's office, confirming that the blood test and biopsy were positive for celiac. At that time, I was scheduled for a bone density test and a follow-up with the gastroenterologist almost a month from now. The person I spoke with didn't mention dietary changes, except to reassure me when I jokingly said, "Goodbye...
