  1. How did your dinner go at Souper Salad? I don't eat out a lot unless I know it has a gluten free menu. Do they have a gluten-free menu or did you just stick with the fresh veggies and fruits. Were croutons and such located separate from the food?

I'm always looking for new places to go. Hope you had a great dinner.

  2. The best 3 oils to use are: olive, sesame, and almond.

The worst 3 are: soy, canola and safflower. Insects won't eat any part of the rapeseed plant (from which "canola" comes from) - it is poisonous to them. It's like a natural pesticide.

Do olive, sesame or almond have high flashpoints? I've been using a lot of canola.

    Thanks.

  3. Hi everyone. I had allergy tests (including food) done 2 years ago. This was before I was diagnosed with Celiac (both blood work and biopsy). I had chronic sinus infections, post nasal drip, dizziness, etc. None of the foods came back as allergies. Wouldn't wheat have come back positive? The only things positive were cedar, ragweed (well outside stuff).

The reason I'm asking is I'm wondering if it would be prudent to get tested again for food allergies. Would this be different from two years ago? Do intolerances show up on the test?

By the way, I have very little sinus trouble now. The difference is unbelievable since being gluten-free. I don't know if it is related, but I sure feel better! I still take Allegra. The only change I made was to be gluten-free.

So, please let me know about the tests.

    Thanks.

  4. Jessica,

I felt the same way at first. I was very lethargic. Also, I was hungry, especially since I didn't really know what I could eat. I was afraid to eat at first. I always had bananas in the house. Such a safe food and loaded with potassium. You are lucky that you found this forum so early into your treatment! There are so many great ideas, advice, recipes. Also, if you take any supplements or meds, make sure you go through them all to make sure they are gluten-free. I had to change quite a few.

Good luck. You are certainly on the right track! So glad you found the forum - such a wealth of info., you can find just about anything.

  5. Shay I would be so bummed if I couldn't take the Renew Life I really love their products.

Heavy would be 24-50 billions, per

MAKE SURE you take them on an empty stomach. Or it's useless... (I set my cell phone alarm to remind me every night I wake up @ 3 am) :lol:B)

    be well!

    Collette,

I take my probiotics as soon as I wake up. How long do you wait before you eat? I usually wait about an hour. Is that enough?

    Thanks.

  6. have you tried gargling with apple cyder vinegar or crest blue prohealth mouthwash? both of those work for me.. after nothing else i tried did. including 4 different medicines.

Thanks for the advice on the apple cyder vinegar. I was taking it everyday (1 tablespoon mixed with some apple juice) and just recently stopped. I had read it was good for PH balance as well as heartburn. I stopped taking it, but will start again.

Also, the coating is just about gone! I started brushing my tongue more with my toothbrush which seems to have helped. I still want to get a tongue scraper.

  7. I weighed in this morning. Yikes! I'm off to a good start though, well pretty good. Banana for breakfast (must have lost my appetite after the weigh in). For lunch, 2 corn tortillas with a little bit of cheese and some Rosarita Traditional no fat refried beans (with some Pace Picante mixed in). Really good! I have beans left over for another day. Also had 4 tortilla chips. For dessert, 9 plain M&Ms. I still need to have some chocolate.

For dinner we'll either have smoothies or garlic shrimp. I need to get some veggies! Anyone do V8? Is this gluten-free?

  8. Just curious what you guys consider "HEAVY" probiotics? I think this is a relevant question for this thread. I tried a probiotic a few weeks ago that had 250 BILLION colony forming units. And after a few days, I was miserable. I was bloated like a 6 month pregnant woman. I had shortness of breath I was so bloated. Gas ex didnt touch it. I quit taking it. So now I am on an acidophilus sporogene 1.5 billion CFU am and Acidophilus/Bifidum 5 Billion CFU pm. So a total of 6.5 Billion CFU. I am feeling fine with them. No bloating, D, etc.

Is HEAVY use more than this?

    ShayFL,

The one I take has 24 billion CFU. Previously, I was taking acidophilus Pearls by Enzymatic Therapy. This is not the same as Enzymedica that people have had problems with. Anyway, it only had 1 billion CFU. I started taking the new one when my tongue got coated. I'll reduce it when I'm back to normal. I do not have any adverse side effects from it.

  9. Thanks for the warm welcome and the tips. I will weigh in on Friday. I have a lunch tomorrow with some friends at this great Cuban restaurant that actually has the best gluten-free menu. Come Friday morning, I will weigh in and go from there.

I'm actually excited to be starting this. I've even thought about having my thyroid checked. It's always been in the "normal" range, but read somewhere if it's over 2.5 it can mean your thyroid is low.

I'm going to the store to make sure I have good food to start this diet.

  10. fresh garlic works... oil of oregano, pao d'arco

I use Renew Life probiotics and LOVE them. I prefer these to any others I have taken, don't expect things to happen overnight. It took me almost a year of HEAVY probiotics AND antifungals for my tounge to not be coated and white any longer.

    be well! :)

I love garlic and will be adding more to my diet. We're having garlic shrimp this weekend. The tips are great!

My tongue is just barely coated, so hopefully it will be back to normal. It doesn't feel weird and I don't have bad breath from it. I just don't like it.

Which Renew Life probiotics are you taking? Which ones did you start with? I've been taking probiotics for years before being dx'd, but not in the amount I'm taking now. I'm also taking the fiber by Renew Life.

  11. It could be caused by something else too:

Thanks ShayFL. I read the article and I'm going to start with a tongue scraper. I really hope it's not a yeast thing and because of all of the probiotics I take in addition to the yogurt, I can't imagine it would be.

If the tongue scraper doesn't work, I guess I'll add more probiotics and the grapefruit seed extract that Carla mentioned. I just hate to add any more supplements if I don't have to.

  12. Try stronger probiotics.

Also, cut out sugar and simple carbs.

Use coconut oil instead of butter (coconut oil kills yeast).

Grapefruit seed extract and other natural products are good anti-fungals.

    Carla,

Thanks for responding. I sent a reply previously, but something happened with my computer, so hopefully there won't be two.

I already take a probiotic that has a proprietary blend of 24 billion CFU. That's pretty high. Do you take more than that? If so, what brand are you using? I had never heard that coating of the tongue could be fungal. I'm also going to try to grapefruit seed extract. Had not heard of that one either. We have grape seed extract.

    Thanks.

  13. I definitely use gluten-free shampoos and such. My shampoo is by Desert Essence (I get it at the health food store), but Neutrogena makes some as well. There is a list on this forum of Neutrogena products that are gluten-free. I use Neutrogena Foaming Cleanser. I am switching my moisturizer from Olay (not sure if gluten-free) to one by MyChelle which some people have talked about in the forum. You can get it at Sprouts. I believe both Secret and Lady Mennen? are gluten-free. I use either Crest or Colgate toothpaste. For lipsticks I use Burts Bees lip shimmers and Chanel gloss. There is a thread for Everyday Minerals going on that is several pages long. You can PM me if you want more info.

Hope this helps. The decision is yours is you want to switch everything. At first, I thought it was ridiculous. I thought, who swallows shampoo. Well, I realized that I may not swallow it, but it definitely gets in my mouth sometimes. Also, I don't want to worry about residue left on my hands from me putting on moisturizer, makeup, etc.
