  1. I didn't realize till recently that Elizabeth Hasselbeck on The View has Celiac as well. She did a segment on it with Dr. Greene! He's her doc!
  2. I just called the gal back. I had my own results to look at so I specifically asked her if it was Antigliadin or Transglutaminase. Both the ones that were elevated were Transglutaminase. So basically, that is a definite postive for Celiac, isn't it?
  3. I went with my 18 year old to the doc a couple days ago because he has been totally exhausted for the last 3 weeks, since coming back from 2 months in Alaska. It was time for jet lag to be over and he was needing tons of sleep still and still not feeling rested. He had NO other symptoms till, being the mom I am who used to be a nurse, I questioned him...
  4. I guess being so far into this makes a difference too. You probably feel much better overall, so when it hits you, you KNOW. I'm only 6 - 7 weeks into this and still have SO far to go. It's hard to tell the difference on some things.
  5. Those of you who have delayed reactions, how on earth do you know it was the foods from DAYS before vs within the last 24 hours?
  6. Do you get an immediate response or a delayed reaction? How delayed? I ate something today that should have sent me to Celiac hell and practically nothing happened. I've had a couple friends say that it can take them days to have a reaction and sometimes it is quicker. What are your reaction variables?
  7. I've been VERY diligent up till now and this was only a one time thing. But how will I EVER feel comfortable eating out if I don't have a reaction to let me know something was amiss? Do I just get my blood checked every month to see the antibody levels?
  8. Positive for BOTH!
  9. I'm still here...and I'm fine, after having a Chicken Filet Biscuit from Chick-fil-a this morning at 10:30. I have to say I'm a little ticked off. All I had was a moderate belly ache for a couple hours. No gurgling, bloating, nadda...nothing. Maybe I'm one of those that it takes a while to hit. Maybe I'm a Silent Celiac. How am I EVER gonna...
  10. Just looked at your blog...we go to the same GI practice! I'm seeing Dr. Parekh though...really like him. How do you feel about yours? I'm also curious if you actually went to the dieticians? My insurance doesn't cover it, and I also thought I had probably learned most of what she would tell me here, ya know? I hate to pay out of pocket for nothing...
  11. I'm planning to be there!
  12. FOR THE RECORD...I, the original poster, am not encouraging anyone to cheat. I am not doing this because I am craving something or because I just want to eat something. This is more of an experiment for me to see my reaction and it will the the one and ONLY time I do it. I just wanted to make sure no one thought I was promoting the idea that this thread...
  13. Thanks.
  14. I guess that is why I'm so frustrated with just generally feeling like crap! I don't know whether to be searching out something or just being patient waiting for the healing and recovery to take place. I'm seriously thinking of trying it. I have no other appts scheduled this week.
  15. I'm sure I got your attention now! LOL! I've been diagnosed for about 6 1/2 weeks. I've had a few what I THOUGHT were glutenings from CC, but now I'm not so sure. They were one time D episodes that were the morning after something I ate the night before. Sore muscles and joints, etc, but that has seemed to settle in as the norm for the most part.....
  16. He's probably in a LOT of pain with the constipation. It's doesn't take much to make you really hurt...abdomen, back, sides. I've thought I had a kidney stone before the pain was so intense. Add to that any abdominal pain just from the damaged small intestine. I would keep him hydrated. When things get moving he'll want to eat. When he eats now...
  17. Personally, I was in complete and total shock. I didn't even think it was a possibility. I have been sick for a long time, but most of my symptoms aren't GI related so I had NO idea. I used to be a nurse so I KNEW, right there in the office that this was NOT going to be fun. I laughingly say that instead of my life flashing before my eyes, it was more...
  18. The only thing that gets "cooked" that contains gluten would be a Stouffer's frozen something or other. Goes in the microwave and then the dish gets chunked. Their plates are easy enough to get in the dishwasher. They eat cereal too. Maybe I should get disposibles for them! Then their bowls, etc get pitched! I need to just be better at cleaning up the...
  19. I would love to have a 100% gluten-free kitchen, but I have compromised to have a kitchen cart beside the table in the breakfast nook. That cart and that table is the only place the gluten should be. BUT...I feel like it migrating! Obviously, if the dishwasher is clean and still needs emtpying, my son can't put his dish in there, so it has gone on the...
  20. You are the FIRST person who I've "met" that also had that pain under the ribcage on the left side!! That was what got all this started for me. I didn't have CLASSIC Celiac symptoms with D and such. In fact, I thought the doc was crazy when they wanted to do the blood test. But all they told me about my biopsy was "suggestive of malabsorption syndrome...
  21. Shannon, I have heard of it taking DAYS to get over being glutened WAY more than it being a brief thing. The joint pain can DEFINITELY be from the gluten!
  22. Many adults have this reaction, so I don't know why a child couldn't.
  23. I have had chronic constipation ever since I can remember. I have had to take extra fiber products to even be able to go on a regular basis. After THREE DAYS gluten free...never had a problem again. Now I'm more like your run of the mill Celiac.
  24. I am the only one affected in my home, but *I* do all the cooking, so if I make it, it's gonna be gluten-free. I have one son left at home, age 17, and my husband. I have a cart with wheels that I put their toaster on in the corner of the breakfast nook, beside the table. That cart and the table are the only places gluten is allowed...well, other than...
