ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge (After Being Gluten Free For 2 Years)nutbutters replied to nutbutters's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms He wants to diagnose via biopsy, so he's asking me to do it again. A pain, a really big pain.

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge (After Being Gluten Free For 2 Years)nutbutters posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Hello, I was previously diagnosed with celiac disease based on mild indicators on blood tests. My doctor asked me to immediately start the diet since I wasn't absorbing any of the food I was eating and he did not want to risk it. I was severely underweight. Anyway, I went to a gastroenterologist this year who requested, begged, that I get the biopsy done...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Dealing With This While In College?nutbutters replied to kera87's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff You just have to learn to advocate for yourself and you will get the treatment you deserve. I am lucky to have an understanding college Dining staff.

ARCHIVED Celiacs In Collegenutbutters replied to nutbutters's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff We are special despite this legislation. Not everyone is gluten-free. I do not think so. Also, just because we are covered by the ADA does not mean we get "benefits." On the contrary, we have to advocate for ourselves in order to get basic things from our schools - meals that are good for us, a healthy lifestyle.

ARCHIVED Celiacs In Collegenutbutters replied to nutbutters's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff No, I live in a dorm. I do nothing of the sort. Dining Hall staff washes my dishes. I don't take up anything... space-wise. Sometimes, I do feel like I am taking up the staff's time, but then I remember I'm not the only one. The dining hall prepares ALL of my meals. They are required to since I am paying for room and board and people with food allergies and...

ARCHIVED Celiacs In Collegenutbutters replied to nutbutters's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff I eat Rice Chex or Gorilla Munch with Soy Milk. I prefer almond milk actually, but the school doesn't have any. They have Rice Dream, but as far as I know that contains a small amount of barley, and I think it tastes really bad, anyway. I also can have gluten-free pancakes; the dining hall will make those for me sometimes. They have the Trader Joe's mix,...

ARCHIVED French Celiacnutbutters replied to 27204-1442977708's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff Salut! I suggest looking into going to New York; there are a good number of celiacs and it is a great place for someone who is just arriving from abroad. There is a good French population as well, which would make your journey that much easier. Gluten Free New York often has meet-ups, so asking them for help would be in your best interest. Bon voyage...

ARCHIVED University Not So Accommodating =(nutbutters replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff My college requires that we tell them ahead of time. I have never told a professor, lest I have had to miss class for a doctor's appointment, but even then I don't tell them why I need to go to the doctor. As for the last part, I find that so weird and I am so grateful I go to my school! Our exams are never proctored; we take our finals on our own time and...

ARCHIVED Top Three Worst Gf Productsnutbutters replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I love Gorilla Munch!! With almond milk, they're perfect (I'm casein sensitive - perhaps intolerant...). It tastes like Kix. I spent a long time just eating Rice Chex over the past few months since it's "the special cereal" my school ordered for me. I went to the local supermarket, discovered Gorilla Munch and I like it a lot. Granted, these are the only...

Hi all, I've heard complaints of gluten-free college dining in the past. I'm curious about other's experiences at their respective colleges. My school is very good and cooks special meals for me whenever I need them, the benefit of a small school with several dining halls. I made the transition while in college (during the summer, which made it easier...

There was an article in Discover last year about another "Real Doctor House." Nice to see that there is more than one "real Doctor House" out there! It gives me faith in the medical profession.

ARCHIVED Test Results..nutbutters replied to nutbutters's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms No, I was gluten free for five months, and I was preparing for the biopsy for one month on a heavy gluten-diet. I have not yet had the barium test (that is the next step). Sorry, that was very unclear.

ARCHIVED Test Results..nutbutters posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I recently went for an EGD and had a full celiac panel done. All came back negative; there was absolutely no sign of villous atrophy. My intestines were in good shape (one biopsy was taken of the small intestine). Aside from this, I am relatively healthy. I have a small hiatal hernia, GERD and I have iron-deficiency anemia, but I am otherwise, fine. Now,...

ARCHIVED Anybody Fromnyc?nutbutters replied to Aga28's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Hi, welcome!!! I am from New York City as well, but to be honest with you, I don't eat out much, and I go to school in Massachusetts, so I am unfamiliar with much of the NYCGF world. I was just diagnosed this summer, so I hope to explore more of it when I have more time at home!

ARCHIVED Daughter Freshman In Collegenutbutters replied to wildwood's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I am relatively new to this myself. I am a junior in college, but I was just diagnosed this summer. As funny as it sounds, there was never a better time! This is the first year the school started offering gluten-free students options about where they can eat (granted, it is one consistent place). I really prepared myself before I came to school to understand...

ARCHIVED Upper Endoscopynutbutters posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Hi, I was diagnosed my a doctor in New York (top in his field!) by way of an intestinal permeability test, but I was told that I need a positive biopsy to confirm his diagnosis. So, I went to a gastroenterologist yesterday, and I was scheduled for an upper endoscopy since I do exhibit all of the typical celiac symptoms. Initially, it was scheduled for...

ARCHIVED Results! Rewards Of Being gluten-freenutbutters replied to one more mile's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I've lost twelve pounds in 2 months, and I was already underweight... so, it's good because it means I can eat fattening food now to make me bigger again.

ARCHIVED On Gluten Free Diet... Nothing Changed!nutbutters replied to nutbutters's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Thanks for all your suggestions!! I'm scheduling an appointment with a gastroenterologist in the area for next week, so that I can have the intestinal permeability test run as well as several other tests for parasites and more conclusive tests for celiac. All of my gastrointestinal symptoms are pretty recent developments; they only started within the last...

ARCHIVED On Gluten Free Diet... Nothing Changed!nutbutters replied to nutbutters's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I do avoid soy and dairy per my doctor's suggestion! I have been gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free for the same amount of time. Yes, I only had an intestinal permeability test run on me (nothing else), and my symptoms are seizure-like spasms, joint pain, terrible indigestion (no matter what I eat), headaches, nausea. The intestinal permeability test was the...

ARCHIVED On Gluten Free Diet... Nothing Changed!nutbutters posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I went on a gluten free diet on the basis of an intestinal permeability test, which proved I was suffering from terrible malabsorption. I am still on this diet and have been for almost two months now; the school has even given me a personal chef, and I am feeling ill. I'm sure her food is safe, and I know she is cooking it right, and with dedicated pots and...
