  1. Awesome! Please post and let us know how it turns out. I may need to invest in some almond flour. Thanks for the reply!
  2. I tried the cake on Thursday and it was very good. So good that I am trying to find a recipe. It seems similar, to me, to what I have seen referred to as a "Sephardic orange-and-almond cake." Most of the recipes refer to Claudia Roden
  3. Oh, sorry if you misunderstood. I didn't say that colon cancer wasn't related, only that I don't know of any scientific/medical studies that show a relation. Believe me, I realize we don't know everything so I never dismiss anything out of hand. But I was trying to make a point about the sometimes hereditary nature of colon cancer when it strikes that young...
  4. Ms. Skinny: Does anyone else in your family have cancer? That is young to succumb and it may be the case that your grandmother had a genetic condition. I am from what is known as a Lynch family - many of us 'carry a cancer gene' that causes HNPCC (hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer). Persons who carry this genetic marker have an approximate 50% chance...
  5. If you enjoy cereal then switch to Rice Chex. It sounds as if it has far less sugar than the Enviro Kids stuff. Instead of orange juice switch to whole fruit - by drinking juice you are just getting all of the sugar and very little of the fiber. If you skip cereal with milk then try to add some dairy via low cal yogurt - I like the Dannon lite and fit. Instead...
  6. Hi Rose: I hope that you are able to figure things out for your son - I'm sure it is both worrisome and frustrating. I really would suggest a visit to a regular doctor and the standard celiac panel via blood testing. That's usually a good start. This can all be a little confusing but please note that there are differences between gluten intolerance and celiac...
  7. It's a great idea to let your pharmacist know, too. My pharmacy has a special form that people with allergies and other intolerances complete and it becomes a part of your record. It is then up to the pharmacy to make sure that any medication they give you is gluten-free.
  8. Thanks for the info. Since I have to go through one of these every single damn year I guess I will ask my gastro next time if this option is available. I am wondering: Is the colonic something that is performed at the colonoscopy center just prior, or could you posibly have the colonic procedure done elsewhere?
  9. I popped a couple of sugar free mini Altoids on the way home from work today and then decided to read the tin -- wheat maltodextrin. Oye.
  10. I quit August 2008 after smoking a pack of 'clove' cigarettes everyday for 28 years. I finally quit because I was diagnosed with a genetic condition that predisposes me to a variety of cancers, including colon cancer. Smoking has been shown to increase your chances of developing colon cancer so I made up my mind to quit. I got help through my HMO (another...
  11. It's not almost scary, Tim, it IS scary. We have here a partial snip of a study which seems to come to reasonable conclusions: "in a research setting," continuing to eat gluten "seems to be an option" for asymptomatic children with celiac disease. They stop short of recommending it clinically, however . . . "and long-term follow-up studies are needed to provide...
  12. The website is not clear - but the label is. I recently tried two of their new Bountifuls and they were very good. The bottle said gluten free and they were low calorie and low fat! I'm not sure but the Bountifuls might be 'lighter' than the Lite ones.
  13. I purchased some Red Bridge at Sprouts here in Seal Beach, CA. It looks as if Sprouts has a location in Dallas so it might be worth a phone call. It has not been available everytime I've visited. I just tried some New Grist yesterday and I thought it was better than Red Bridge. I've got a bottle of Greens in the fridge that I am saving for a special treat...

    ARCHIVED Kfc

But what restaurant (chain) out there doesn't have flour kicking around? What restaurant doesn't serve fried chicken fingers? What fast food restaurant doesn't base their entire menu on sandwiches? What restaurant doesn't serve bread? Many here eat at Wendy's but I believe they have a bakery truck delivering buns everyday. The guy carts them thorough the...

  16. Sign me up! This sounds a bit different than one discussed last week I think: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...c=57113&hl= "Jason is working with Dr Robert P Anderson. His submission focussed on the development of a coeliac vaccine that would target the disease-causing T cells that are reacting to the toxic fragments of gluten, and...
  17. I am in the same boat as you; it seemed quite ridiculous. I'd wager that since flour stays airborne for 24 hours plus there's not a single legitimate gluten free restaurant out there unless they monitor to make sure flour never crosses their front door. If we think long enough about it, there is really no way to avoid some contamination. Gluten free...

    ARCHIVED In Law Problems

Please don't take this the wrong way. I think that if you expect them to respect your choices then you should respect their rules, too. If it bothers them when you bring a cake to their house then you should not bring a cake to their house. Did you really have to bring a cake knowing it would bother them? You couldn't buy some ice cream or pudding or frozen...
  19. I have been washing my morning calcium down with coffee! Does this prevent absorption or . . . ? Contrary to popular opinion, I enjoy agreeing with people.
  20. Of course I did not save the links! Sorry, let's see if I can find new sources . . . The first Q+A was my source . . . Open Original Shared Link One has to be careful. There appear to be a lot of snake oil salesmen out there pushing supplements that rebuild bone. Bone cells are constantly being replaced so the terminology is often confusing...
  21. I disagree. I'm fairly sure that bone loss cannot be reversed with only gluten-free diet, supplements, and calcium/vitamin D. Everything I have read indicates that these measures assist in retarding further bone loss - they don't actually rebuild bone. Weight bearing exercise stimulates bone remodeling to assist in preventing fractures. Hormone therapy, Evista...
  22. Try not to get too worried about osteopenia. I also have been diagnosed - male age 45. There is a certain amount of controversy regarding this diagnosis so I'd suggest a quick read of the following link: Open Original Shared Link I haven't yet read anyone here remark about the importance of exercise: "Exercise is important in maintaining strong...
