  1. I had Yinpu Black Rice Beer down in a bar on Bleecker Street in NYC. Felt great! Unique taste but not bad at all for a "maintstream" brew.
  2. All hard alcohols are gluten-free due to the distillation process unless a company adds gluten-containing materials afterwards.
  3. I take a Multi from Whole Foods...their 365 Day brand one. It even says gluten-free on the label.
  4. Hornsby's Ciders are NOT gluten-free. Woodchuck, Ciderjack, Strongbow, are great and I haven't had any issues drinking them. All hard alcohols are technically gluten-free due to the distillation process even those that originated from grains. But, to be 100% safe avoid the ones that were distilled from grain. Additionally, some companies add fillers/flavorings...
  5. I've ordered the Ramapo Valley Honey Lager before and it was ok. It tasted like Mead and at the time was really sweet and not like a lager at all! I guess I was expecting too much! I've switched to Hard Ciders like Strongbow and ofcourse wine and hard alcohol but there's nothing like an ice cold brew! I'm waiting for Bard's beer to make an entrance to Boston...
  6. Not yet (Bard's Beer) and I agree that the Ramapo Valley Honey Lager is not a beer and more like a Mead. I was expecting a true lager taste and instead it was quite sweet from the honey. I think they've "toned" down the honey taste recently but too expensive. One of my new favorites is Strongbow hard cider. Dry and not too sweet. I also had Yinpu Black Rice...
  7. Mine was a rather uncomfortable experience as I constantly felt like I was gagging even with a sedative and an anti-gag reflex drug...def out of it for a day or so and did feel somewhat sore inside...not pleasant!!!
  8. I drink Bombay with zero problems and it's my favorite gin. Most hard alcohols are indeed gluten-free as Richard says, even if grain-based due to the distallation process unless they add a gluten-containing substance afterwards.
  9. Interesting link...food err rather drink for thought.... Various interviews but scroll all the way down: "...current methods to determine gluten in beer are very unreliable." Open Original Shared Link
  10. Off on a tangent but we were visiting fam in NJ over the holidays and my aunt called her local supermarket's bakery for gluten-free breads. I knew they wouldn't have any, but here was the response from the head baker: "What is gluten??" I almost threw-up...how could someone be so ignorant especially in the field...duh...why does your bread stay together so...
  11. "Does Heineken beer contain any gluten? Beer contains gluten, which comes from the grain from which it is brewed. Only a fraction of the gluten that the grain contains gets into the beer. The proportion depends on the kind of grain that is used. The use of barley results only in traces of gluten in the beer whilst wheat contributes considerably more. It...
  12. Chipolte rocks!! I wish they had them up here in Boston, but while down in DC two weekends ago chilling with friends I ate there three times...I love their Burrito Bols!!
  13. While in Italy I drank some gluten-free brew called Bi-Aglut "76" in a local restaurant that specialized in gluten-free foods. I then went to a local pharmacia in Naples and was able to order 12 bottles. They were expensive (about 3 bills a bottle) but the taste is soo worth it. It is truly incredible and made with buckwheat. Open Original Shared Link Unfortunately...
  14. As a former beer drinker this is truly my most difficult switch. I do enjoy wine and hard alcohol and I'm getting to like the ciders but there is nothing like a frosty cold brew . Anway, I have tried Heineken quite a few times since going gluten-free and have to say I do not have any problems after drinking, (ie. bloated, etc.) nor do I experience anything...
  15. Strongbow, Magner's both state gluten-free on their websites. Woodchuck and Woodpecker are fine as far as I'm concerned...no problems. I haven't tried Cider Jack yet as I thought it had malt flavoring.
  16. Boston (North End), MA SOX Baby!!!
  17. That's what I thought! Great thanks all!
  18. I think I had a rxn to the capri sun pacific cooler juice pouch...took a stroll down memory lane and picked up a box of them but didn't feel so hot after drinking one. I went to Kraft but didn't see it listed as gluten-free. All the ingredients seem ok: "Water; high fructose corn syrup; apple, grape, and water extracted orange juice concentrates; citric acid...
  19. YES they do and I'm pumped!!! I just called Ian's and they have gluten-free chicken nuggets, fish sticks, sweet potato fries, and mac and cheese. Their products have not yet hit store shelves but are en route. I live in Boston and they are located just outside the city and said I could come in and buy the products from the factory...if I try them next week...
  20. I might be a little old for this forum (currentluy 24) and was diagnosed about 9 months ago after a trip to China visiting a former college buddy who was teaching english in Shanghai. I noticed a bloated feeling (no other symptoms) on the plane ride back to Boston and decided to get tested for parasites. Sure enough I tested positive for giardias but even...
  21. I notice symptoms almost instantly (within 5 minutes I feel bloated) and it depends on how long it lasts (45 min to a few hours) which I guess depends on how much gluten was ingested...I try to be gluten-free as much as possible but when eating out cross-contamination is tough even if I tell them I am gluten intolerant.
  22. Some hard ciders are gluten-free too. Strongbow, Magners and Woodchuck are gluten free...more alcohol by volume too compared to beers All wines and hard alcohols are gluten free unless they add ingredients after the distillation process. Also as a former beer drinker I've "cheated" and had a Heineken once in a while but had zero problems (whereas if I eat...
  23. There are a few gluten-free beers out there but not mainstream just yet. As a former beer drinker this is the thing I am having the most difficulty adjusting. -Bard's Beer (Open Original Shared Link) just recently launched a gluten-free beer but distribution is going to take some time. -As mentioned Ramapo Valley Brewing (Open Original Shared Link) also...
