  1. I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I explained it to my fiance like this... the healthier I remain, the more nookie he gets. Pretty simple. Not to say that he 100% understands as we are fairly new at this BUT he's trying hard. Cross-contamination issues seem to be the hardest for him to grasp but he enthusiastically tries all my gluten-free cooking...
  2. "Fruit is sugar. If you have found a "grain" without gluten, it contains very little protein, and LOTS of carbohydrate starch. I didn't expect a different answer from someone like you, but it was worth a try." "Let's just say I have a close familiarity with people like you. Your incessant "requirement" to have a "meal" drives the people around you absolutely...
  3. Hi there! I am new to being gluten-free so I can't say that your problems are due to Celiac BUT I have similar problems since my diagnosis with Crohn's Disease almost 10 years ago. My remedies include Gas-X, flat Coca-Cola, and recently I have been proscribed Librax. I tend to snack a lot and have learned to recognize when my stomach starts asking for food...
  4. Lundbergs are like styrofoam. My dog loves them because pieces fall off as I munch them and of course any dog loves anything that is a carrier for peanut butter. I just think they are messy. I have not had trouble with the Quaker Rice Cakes but I think I am not as sensitive as some other posters. The peanut butter chocolate flavor is good with peanut...
  5. I have Crohn's Disease and in the last year, I have had what seemed like uncontrolled symptoms of celiac disease. Some research led me to suspect Celiacs. So far Celiac Disease has not been confirmed by two sets of blood tests BUT I will echo what my GI doc told me: "If it bothers you, avoid it." For me, over a few months of trial and error, I am convinced...
  6. A few thoughts on doctors... When I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at 19, it was the fourth doctor I saw who finally picked up on it. The first three didn't see past the bacterial infection that apparently kicked it off (pretty common for celiac disease to flare up the first time after or with a bacterial infection). This year I came down with...
  7. My doc gave me Zofram for nausea as well as Librax for stomach cramping. I never hurl but when I was starting to notice certain symptoms of Celiac's arising, I was getting really nauseaous and heaving after cereal in the morning. And I'd think, "Cereal?! What's easier on the stomach than cereal?" Ah, how little I knew Doesn't sound as bad as what you...
  8. Wal-Mart Great Value brand is great, they come in single-serving packets. I generally stick to the plain flavor (I guess, non-flavored) because there are fewer artificial ingredients. You could also try Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal which is fabulous. Sometimes I just warm up leftover rice, buckwheat, etc., with soy milk, maple or...

    ARCHIVED Mimi's Cafe

There is a Mimi's Cafe in Beavercreek, Ohio at The Greene and they are very tasty. I have not been back since I went gluten free but they will send you an e-mail attachment with gluten-free menu items. They are so detailed they even tell you how to order things (broiled not blackened, corn tortillas for flour, subs on sauces, etc.). I am compiling a binder...
  10. No problems here. I munch on them at work. BUT I haven't worked out my level of sensitivity to gluten nor milk yet though. Right now I think the dairy is just as much of a culprit as the gluten so sometimes it's hard to tell. Hope you feel better soon!
  11. Having just visited my alma mater over the weekend and wallowing in memories of my Crohn's Disease diagnosis my sophomore year, I feel your pain. I have recently tested negative (blood work) for Celiac's but a gluten-free diet for the past month seems to have me feeling a LOT better. I've been having issues for who knows how long and attributing them to...
  12. I'm a second Barbara in Springfield, Ohio. I am new to the site as of today and new to gluten-free as of about a month. So far I've had moderate success at Kroger and Meijer (who label their generic pharmacy products for allergens) and shop at Trader Joe's and Dorothy Lane Market locally. I'm jealous that you are so close to Whole Foods, I LOVE it there...
