  1. Add my son and I into the club! My son was 8.5 at birth and by his 3rd birthday his growth had slowed considerably....by his 4th birthday he fell completely off the growth chart. He had horrible reflux as an infant and remained constipated until he went gluten-free after his dx in January. I am 5'3 and dh is 5'9 so we are not going to have big kids, but...
  2. I agree with Rondar's post. My 5 year old has had, quite literally, few issues....it has been harder on me than him ) I am very fortunate with him though, he really is so easygoing about food. As long as he is getting something equal to what is being served than he could care less. He'd rather have a candy bar than birthday cake. Most of my kids friends...
  3. Hello all, We are 4 months into my 5 year olds celiac dx in January. He had a 3 month follow up last month and he grew 3/4 inch in those 3 months since being gluten-free! He still is not even on the growth chart, but he GREW! And more importantly, he is feeling so much better and looks healthier, has more energy, etc. He got glutened last week at...
  4. I really do feel your pain. We are 3 1/2 months post diagnosis with my 5 yo. He is a pleaser and has not given us an ounce of complaint, so it has been way harder on me than on him. Having two other young kids at home, trying to decide whether to go gluten free for all five of us, etc. the first two months were HARD. I always keep a sunny positive attitude...
  5. This confuses me. My daughter had a negative panel but was IGA deficient so we did the genetic test through Prometheus lab in San Diego. Her results came back negative for any celiac gene. Our GI told us that it would be highly unlikely that she would ever develop celiac as she had zero markers. I thought that told me a lot and felt such peace that she...
  6. UGH!! I am SO sorry. We've only been at this for 3 months ourselves so I am of no help to you in this situation. I just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you and can only imagine how sad/frustrated you must be. HUGS!!!
  7. My 5yo celiac had horrid GERD as an infant. He was full term, healthy weight, and within 4 weeks of being home he had it bad.
  8. My 4 yo tested negative but is not symptomatic at all. I was told to have him tested at his yearly regular check up unless he becomes symptomatic. If your son is testing negative but having digestive issues, I agree that trying a trial gluten free diet to see if he improves is worth trying. Also, both our ped and the GI doc told us to have all our kids...
  9. Hi Roda, We did the genetic testing with our 2 yo daughter. My 5 yo son was diagnosed with Celiac in Jan 09. We tested the other 4 family members...dh and I came back negative, as did my 4 yo son. My 2 yo was negative on the celiac panel but also showed IGA deficient, so we elected to do the genetic test to see if she had any markers. I am so happy...
  10. Hi and welcome. My 5 yo has Celiac but the rest of us all tested negative. Either my husband or I have the gene, it just hasn't been triggered.
  11. I also saw from our local GIG chapter that in addition to Rice Chex and Corn Chex, General Mills is reformulating Strawberry, Chocolate, and Honey Nut Chex to be gluten free and on the shelves by June 1st. Yay! General Mills is my hero. Also, Walmart has new labeling policies. If a Great Value brand product is gluten free, they will list it on the label...
  12. Thanks for your replies. I am a stay at home Mom, so the kids aren't in daycare. Jackson is in a bridge kindergarten class 2 half days a week, but he's been at that preschool since he was three. He's got to be getting it from school though, both times he's fallen ill with it he's complained of a sore throat the next day after being at school. I'll mention...
  13. I am pretty certain that this is coincidental, but I thought I'd run it by you Mom experts anyway! My 5 yo has been gluten free since Jan 9 of this year. He had strep throat for the first time in mid Feb, and now he has it again. I'm sure it's genetic, I had my tonsils out when I was five, but I still have that niggling question in the back of my mind...
  14. My 5 yo had the biopsy in January. He was away from me for a total of 20 minutes and 1 1/2 hours after arriving at the pedi surgery center we were on our way home. 4 hours after the procedure, he was doing somersaults on my couch and eating me out of house and home ) I know it's not for everyone, but I wanted to know EXACTLY what we were dealing with on...
  15. I hope and pray you get some good news on your kiddo. Thanks again for the info, it does help. My son has his 3 month gluten free repeat bloodwork in two weeks, if we have any problems we are heading to a dietician as I have the opposite problem....this boy loves his good food (he is the ONLY one of my three and while I hate his diagnosis he sure makes...
  16. Thank you Bear for the response. I will google it and check it out. My 5 yo eats tons of fresh veggies/fruits/meat but what good is it if he is not getting it absorbed? And he has not seen any weight/height change since being gluten free in Jan.
  17. I'm so sorry. What a rotten age to be diagnosed. My son is 5 so it was hard to tell him that he couldn't have the "regular" pizzas anymore, but by the time he is older he'll never remember any different. I highly recommend Danna Korn's book "Kids with Celiac Disease", it has some good tips for explaining things to kids of all ages. I was distraught when...
  18. I've seen several posts where kids are getting EO 28 and I was wondering if someone could please tell me what it is and what it does for Celiac kids? Thx!
  19. . Cruelshoes that is funny....we had a similar experience. After my son tested positive (neither parent is positive- currently anyway), we had our other two kids tested. I just knew my 2 yo daughter had it. She is so like my celiac kid in so many ways....both had reflux, big bellies, etc. Ironically, she was IGA deficient so we had to do the gene test...
  20. After my son was diagnosed, the rest of us got tested. My husband and I got tested as well as testing our other two children. We are all negative. My husband went gluten free is "solidarity" with our son, and over the last three months we have gradually become gluten free out of habit and ease. My son also told us that the had belly aches at night but...
  21. My 5 yo old is the only one in our family of five that has tested positive for Celiac. Our home is gluten free except for bread. My 2&4 yos still eat regular bread which is kept separate and away from my 5 yo who is not a bread eater even pre-diagnosis. It just worked out to be a natural transition.
  22. We have it and it's a great book. I wish that they would also make a "Eating Gluten Free with Ethan" or something....my 5 yo hates to have to lug around his "girlie" book, lol.
  23. I have not encountered this with my son, but I just wanted to say that I hope your daughter is better soon!
  24. My 5 yo son was pretty asymptomatic. It was picked up by his endocrinologist after we exhausted all other efforts to find out why he was not growing (he is the size of a tall 3 year old) and were shocked when it came back off the charts positive. Went to the GI and the biopsy confirmed the bloodwork. He DID have a distended belly which was completely gone...
  25. Hi DadCares, and welcome. I won't be much help. My 5 yo son was just diagnosed in January. He also had TTG recorded over 100. We have his follow up testing in two weeks and I am already a wreck over it. I never thought of the "over 100" issue, but you are right. What if initially our children were really high....and now down to say....110 or something...
