  1. Hi Mia, Thanks for the info on the article on the psychological dependency on the physical - and on the fructose malabsorption. Interesting! Hope you're getting better, Jan
  2. Hi Janie, One trick I'm using when craving all the wrong foods is to make myself FIRST eat all the right stuff, preferably lots of raw or slightly sauteed vegetables. I tell myself that once I'm through with the vegetables, I can eat something else, but surprisingly they often take away the craving. And if they don't I make sure to have lots of healthy...
  3. Hi Fig girl, If you take the caprylic acid against candida, I think the safest is to go for a long period, maybe 3 months. I've taken it for around that period of time by now, and am cutting down my dosage but keep taking a little to be sure the candida doesn't have a chance to recur. And yes, lemon works well for the liver - particularly if drunk in...
  4. Hi All, Went to a major family celebration this weekend - staying over the night. And even though I had brought my own reserves, and specific foods were made for me, I made the mistake of tasting a little piece of meat, making me go down with a terrible headache for a day and a half. And that's when it hit me: since I feel I've come really far in...
  5. And Janie, I hope the SCD will help stabilize your moods, just like I've experienced it: I used to get so easily depressed or very hot-tempered, but now it's only when I inadvertently eat something wrong, like additives or sometimes too much coffee can do it as well. It's just great, this sence of being much happier and stable for no apparent reason, just...
  6. Thanks Sherry and Pele, Yes, at some point in my late 20's I started reacting like that with total exhaustion and a need to sleep for a day or two, if I got too intensely involved in any sport (like squash for example). Then I attributed it to the malaria, but I guess it could have been the beginning of my gluten-poisoning symptoms, or perhaps other types...
  7. What do you make of it? Do you think it's the body's way to protect the process of healing so as to get the rest required and not become too exhausted, or is it just part of whatever illnesses we're dealing with ? In certain ways, for me it mimics the malaria cycles that used to turn up whenever I overdid anything. But it has shown up rarely in the last...
  8. One question: I find that generally I'm doing much better when I'm able to follow my own rhythm during the day, whereas whenever I have too many commitments to keep up with, or must run around doing too much physically (which honestly isn't very much, but just too many errands in different places for example), I fall sick ... Since I used to be very...
  9. To all the newbies, just want to add that do be careful with internet questionnaires etc. They could really make you come out with anything. So don't take them as your only source of dx. I've worked with my body/health for so many years, and have been tested for so many things, that I sometimes forget that even though the doctors haven't helped me much, I...
  10. As to enzymes, I'd gone for natural foods such as ginger for a while, but recently felt I needed to take something sometimes. And I have surprised myself by reacting very well to GHT Active Digestive Enzymes. I haven't checked whether all ingredients are SCD legal though ... I've been going anti-candida also, so I cut out all sweet stuff, incl. honey...
  11. Hi Pufferbelly, anti-parasitic treatment is not in itself any part of the SCD, and shouldn't be undertaken unless you really are convinced that parasites are your problem. And if you start on too many things at the same time, you will loose track of what causes which effects. So if I were you, I'd start slowly with the SCD intro, gradually built a...
  12. Thanks - Yes, I'll definately go for the Metametrix test at some point. I just have this strange sense that I should cleanse as much as possible first with herbs - and get as strong as I can. Then afterwards opt for the test and to take whatever drugs might be necessary at that point to kill the rest. Perhaps, it's a feeling that my body can only deal with...
  13. I don't do the yoghurt, and still the SCD is helping me a lot. I do take a lot of probiotics though. About ready made food, the whole concept is kind of about doing your own freshly made food. But it's very easy to make since the more simple you keep the diet the better. For example, I live largely on sauteed vegetables, and once in a while the chicken...
  14. Mia, wow, your story of the psychiatrist is really scary. Don't they realize how many pshychological symptoms are in fact GI related?! I mean, it could very well be that your mother's alcoholism stemmed exactly from some digestive insufficiency that created the craving for stimulants in her brains. And then you might very well have inherited the digestive...
  15. Hi Mia, Thanks for your reply and explanations. Yes, I do think we need a little sugar to keep the body running, I mean it needs some fuel to burn - and particularly for you who have no body fats at all. I'm luckily not fructose malabsorbant, just can't deal with the sugars of most fruits presently, so I stick to grape fruits, a few kiwis, pineapples...
  16. Hi All, I just had my first sweets in months: made the coconut candy balls from the SCD book (only honey, coconut flour and chopped nuts). And they were great! Somehow felt I needed the sugar, particularly for my brains, and now when I sense my heart beating strongly and the blood running faster, I realize that probably it was my entire body demanding...
  17. You might want to consider all foods that easily clogg the system and/or build up toxins, like dairy, grain products, including rice, soy, corn etc., any kind of sugar or sugarcontaining foods, alcohol, caffeine, red meats etc. Not saying that you need to avoid all of those, only that you should observe your reactions to them and see if you might benefit...
  18. I also used to have the same problem, particularly after heavy or sweet meals it became totally impossible with the fatigue, just had to lie down then and there. Then I learned that having small meals, like every two or three hours worked much better for me. And I make sure never to get too hungry before a meal, because that's when it happens again to me...
  19. Hi Ali, Good to see you back on the thread! Sounds as if you've had a really rough time. Hope you're better. Think you're right about the vomiting; there is definately an off loading of toxic build-up going on, generally triggered by something I eat and can't tolerate. Once I'm sick I don't take any supplements, or eat much since I throw up...
  20. Thanks Sherry, I'd heard about the ginger root tea, but not really gotten into it before. Now I tried it, and it's really good. Meat broth, however, won't work for me in that stage as it's like anything demanding any kind of digestion makes the poisoning worse (I used not even to be able to drink boiled water for a day or two, at its worst). But as...
  21. Thanks fig girl, it's really kind of you to sympatize. Luckily I'm much better today. Had like a whole purging all morning, so I guess a lot of detox was going on while I was sick. And perhaps it really was one of those healing crisis that some of you have explained about. I hope so ... And wow, Rinne, I just read about your ordeal. That...
  22. By the way, anyone having any good advice for how to deal with one of those poisonings I just went through? It's like I have to keep vomiting until I vomit up all the acid and bile in my stomach - really like cutting up my throat from the inside. And at the same time headaches so bad, I can do nothing but lie in bed. I use all the standard cleansers...
  23. Thanks a lot, yes this is both very helpful and ecouraging ! I'm on an herbal parasitic cleanse, funnily with the same kind of circles of exhaustion, you describe. I've just taken it to be die offs - it's distinctly different from other brain fogs I've had. But I think I must get checked, as I'm pretty convinced I've those strongyloides besides other...
  24. I've tried most of the recommended anti-candida remedies over the last three years, including the prescription drugs Nystatin and diflucan, with varying results. I do think what works best depends on the specific type of candida that is infecting you, and also on the individual digestive situation, but here are my personal experiences: the candida diet...
  25. Thanks guys for the encouragement . It's so nice to hear that the diet is working for others. And nice with a bit of an idea on the time frame - yes, I'm probably expecting too much too soon. Generally, I am doing better, it's just such a slow uphill battle. And when I have these setbacks, like this time (have been in bed all day, unable to do anything...
