  1. Hi Michelle, Glad if the grape fruits can work for you as well. And it might be that the carrots are too sweet for your system. I have problems with them too, particularly if cooked. Recently, I have been able to eat a small one here and there, but only if raw and if a non-sweet kind. I'm not doing the fermented foods. Probably should, but I...
  2. I totally mirror Chasbari's experience. For almost six months after I started the gluten free/SCD diet, I'd get sick from the sligthest stress or exertion on my system. But taking it very slow, I'm now able to do a little exercise every day, take long walks and work quite intensely again. I've learned - painstakingly - to sense my energy levels, so that...
  3. Hi Bea, I can't digest honey of any kind. I have now been on the SCD for 6 mths, and I've tried at various intervals, but I always react badly. Don't know if it's the candida acting out, or simply that I'm intolerant to honey. In any case, it has been no problem to do the SCD without honey, only that I miss out on all the delicious treats which can be...
  4. Ddery, Sounds as if your mother is more or less already on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD). Try looking at the official website for more info and good ideas: Open Original Shared Link And the pecanbread site (though aimed at parents for autistic kids) is also very helpful: Open Original Shared Link I'm not sure why you want to go the meal...
  5. The thing is that sometimes it's also the other way around: that I can't be bothered having to once again explain for twenty minutes or more about my health, celiac disease, SCD and all the other health related questions that comes up - since for one I already know about these things myself, and secondly since there are a million other issues that I'm interested...
  6. Hi Jason, I'm on the SCD, which is a very restricted diet. So I genereally meet people only for coffees/teas/drinks (which means water for me). But if I absolutely must go out for a dinner - which I did recently for an important event of more than 200 people - I eat beforehand, and ingest only what I absolutely am 100% certain about at the actual table...
  7. Sherry, Thanks. Yes, I think it might be a good idea to do brief fasts to let my esophagus and intestines rest. So far I did the opposite, constantly munching on something in order not to have the large fluctuations in my blood sugar that I get when having actual meals just three times a day. But I must try to find a way of 'fasting' perhaps half days without...
  8. No, I haven't seen any structural info on such a diet, but I'm myself on a modified version of the SCD that takes me very close. The only thing from the list I do eat is non-sugary fruit and green peppers. I don't have yoghurt, and the only meat I can presently digest is chicken. I've now done six mths on this diet, and it has worked very well for me, too...
  9. Yesterday afternoon, I went to the hospital for an ultrasound scan. Had to fast before going, and at some point I realized how good I was feeling. No food or fluids, not even water, for four hours and I was feeling better than in a long time, and most amazingly, my mind was crystal clear and calm. WOW, made me wish I'd never have to eat again Really, seriously...
  10. Hi Fig Girl, Wonderful - yes, these small discoveries of progress are so encouraging. I tried the SCD yoghurt only once, like two months ago. Loved it, but got the worst brainfog in a long time. So I haven't ventured into it again. Same when I have tried to taste any of the SCD legal cheeses. Think dairy is often the culprit for non-gluten brainfogs...
  11. Welcome to the new ones here. Mysecretcurse, I've done the SCD without the yoghurt or any other dairy for now 6 mths with very good results. I've been taking lots of probiotics though (you can find SCD legal ones on the pecanbread site). Also my composition of foods seem different than most people on this thread, since I can't yet digest eggs, meat...
  12. Looks tempting, Pele. But unfortunately I can do neither honey nor vinegar. But yesterday I had raw carrots for the second time in one week - and no problems . It's the first time in several years that I can eat carrots, I used to have a strong intolerance to them (even tested positive by bloodtest). So this must mean that the SCD is truly starting to...
  13. Thanks - yes, had kind of forgotten about peas, but frozen in particular I know I can digest. And winter squash is a good idea as well. And Sherry, as to the bloating - I know you've had candida ruled out before, but something in the way your system reacts make me wonder if you might have developed it lately ? ... Just a thought since candida used...
  14. Yes, I hadn't thought about that. Just checked on the legal/illegal list, since I wanted something filling to sometimes substitute with the nuts. But you're probably right that it's too early for me. will put off legumes for another three months or so ...
  15. Hi Ali, Thanks. Think you're right that it could be overburdening of the liver, maybe from toxic by-products produced by the lentils feeding some of the bad bugs. Am a little better by now - after a full day sleeping and drinking teas and grape fruit juice. But what a bother: no more lentils for me for a while. And yes, I think it's worth being careful...
  16. Have got a really heavy day today. But the only thing I can think of having eaten different from normally is a portion of boiled red lentils that I had yesterday morning (made it myself, so no question of cc). It is SCD-Legal according to the list. Anyone else having problems with red lentils?
  17. Good suggestion on fruit/oils. Also coconut oil is great for energy. I've been on the SCD for almost 6 mths now. And besides oil, I munch on nuts to keep my energy levels up, now when I get hardly any carbs. Starchy vegetables like cauli flower works well for me, and some lentils/beans are also legal on the diet and have a good effect. I have an intolerance...
  18. To all of you who have problems digesting dairy, it might be worth looking at this link for the GAPS diet, which is largely SCD without any dairy - and the explanation for eliminating dairy is given here: Open Original Shared Link
  19. Ali, Thanks for the article link. Very interesting, does explain a lot of what's going on. And also why the SCD is helping so many different symptoms/ailments. I was a sickly child as well. And I believe for me it was simply the undiscovered gluten intolerance (and other food allergies) that produced a vast array of symptoms, since the immune system...
  20. Michelle, This is very interesting since I have exactly the same white spots around my shoulders, lower neck. It itches when it gets warm, but otherwise it doesn't bother me much, nor is it very visible. Only, it's there and doesn't go away - think I've had it for about 4-5 years. I have noticed that it seems to be better since I started the SCD. And I...
  21. Tested positive for wheat allergy. Intolerant to: gluten, soy, all grains, dairy, sugars (of all kinds), alcohol, eggs, meat (except chicken), as well as all forms of chemical additives, preservatives or coloring.
  22. Chatycady, That sounds wonderful - congratulations ! And a great encouragement for the rest of us. I've done 5 1/2 mths of SCD and am much improved, but still get set-backs far too often. I'm very strict with the diet, and stick with only those of the legal foods that I know are safe for me, but still, it takes so very little of a slip - or stress...
  23. Sherry, Do you drink lots of coffee or tea? That's one of the main culprits for me when it comes to bloating. Sometimes, though, it's also simply too much of something that the stomach has to work hard on, like having two very different foods at the same time. Wouldn't know about yogurt and banana, since I never tried it. But it could be that they each demand...
  24. Sherry & Mia, Thanks - would interest me a lot. Since I understand, Sherry, that you've problems with the PM - If you email Mia, perhaps if you allow her to, she will then ... ... PM me with your email address, and we can exchange the info by email. Jan
  25. Mia, that would be really kind of you! And there I'll also write more about energy and balances which I guess is not directly SCD related. Hope you/your drs do identify what else might be taxing your energies. Jan
