  1. Hi there. I have a hypothyroid (it's actually the autoimmune Hashimoto's) and was diagnosed in June 2007. About a year before the thyroid diagnosis, my cholesterol was very high (for a college student) and the Dr. of course didn't think to test me for any sort of disease at the time (what a great guy). In regards to you asking about recovering from...
  2. I don't know, but I'm convinced I have one -- and have been convinced of it for a very long time. I've been taking a vit B complex pill for a few months now to no avail.
  3. Jema, When you say that "there is no governmental mandate about a cross-contamination product warning", are you keeping in mind how many products will say "made in a factory that also processes wheat, soy, and dairy products"? Do you ever follow that as a guidelines? If not, I'm sure that would help you to avoid those products. Good luck
  4. This sort of thing happens to me around my family alot. They'll be like, "Oh, just have a piece (or a slice), one time won't hurt you!!" And I'm like, "Yes, actually, one time WILL hurt me." And then they'll say something like, "Oh, I just don't know how you do it. I could never stop eating this yummy stuff. You have so much willpower." And then I say...
  5. UGHHHH!!! This topic makes me so mad. I am anti-candida as well as gluten-free. Okay, here's the thing: THERE IS AUTOLYZED YEAST EXTRACT IN NEARLY EVERY PROCESSED FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes me so mad. Why are companies allowing people to unknowingly consume this uncessary flavoring agent which leads to bacterial overgrowth...
  6. Hello All!! Wow does this discussion hit home for me! After being diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, I got on Dr. Crook's "Yeast Connection" diet, which is very similar to the SCD. I've been on that diet for a year. Because Hashimoto's is autoimmune (the most terrible thing), I have gotten much better on the diet but not completey healed...
  7. Have you ever had your thyroid checked? Specifically checked for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? That's what I have and it's an autoimmune disease. So, if you already have Celiac, you're prone to other autoimmune diseases, including Hashimoto's. One of the symptoms of an unchecked and untreated Hashimoto's disease is facial swelling, specifically by the eyes...
  8. At this point, I would say anything is possible, and if you feel bad after being near gluten (though never touching or ingesting it) I would say this is valid. Of course I can't quote anything scientific to validate this, but our bodies and our instincts become very clear and honed when we omit allergens from our diet. We become VERY sensitive to those...
  9. Klauren: That's what I worry about too. I've been gluten-free for exactly 70 days now.. YAY! But, after the lunch episode today, which TOTALLY gave me stomach pain and cramps and other yucky things, I get all neurotic about that too, like, OMGZ, now I'm back at square one. These past two or so months are all down the drain. But, I think the truth is that...
  10. Thanks for the comments and support you guys. The fortunate (or is it unfortunate??) thing is that I have been on an anti-Candida diet for about a year now, so I'm doing both the anti-Candida AND the gluten-free. So, that's the real challenge. I don't want to say the gluten-free diet is easy at all, but it is sooo much more lenient than the anti...
  11. I was at a restaurant today with my family and I made sure to steer clear of all the things I cannot eat (gluten, sugar, dairy, anything fermented) and opted for a fresh salad with grilled chicken on top. I had ordered this dish at this restaurant before and they had always just seasoned the chicken with a light sprinkling of dry herbs. Well, this time...
