Tarnalberry - I think in a way I was "testing" whether I truly did have a gluten issue or just plain allergies to numerous foods. I needed to be certain that it was gluten before I actually went to the extent of changing toasters and everything else in my world. being a single mom with a 10 and 4 year old - I am responsible for making them gluten containing...

Thank you for your responses. Maybe I am not being as compliant as I should be with the diet and CC issues. I haven't replaced pots and pans and toasters - so maybe that's a concern. Also the chips, and the coffee. I don't want to give up caffeine - but maybe I will have too (sadly). Food was my one last little treat for myself in a stressful world so it...

I have been gluten free since 5/18 or so - and in the beginning it seemed as though everything was great and my symptoms were slowly going away. Recently however - I notice that I am having the same/similar issues as I was before going gluten free. I don't feel it can really be CC because I am not eating horribly bad things (well they aren't exactly whole...

ARCHIVED Feeling The "glutened" Symptoms
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
On the back of my honey roasted Purdue ShortCuts it says "gluten free". HOWEVER, the boil-in-bag rice I thought would be safe because it is white rice was actually "processed in a facility that has wheat, Soy, and Milk in it". It was the WalMart brand whit boil in bag rice. I assumed all white rice would be safe and only have "rice" in it!! As far as Trix... -
Does anyone know for a fact that CC can make someone very ill as though they just ingested a heavy load of gluten? I mean does it really only take a small particle of gluten to make someone bloat and have all of the gastro symptoms? I am having the same symptoms I had before going gluten-free 15 days ago - and it leads me to believe that I have had something...

ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Dairy Intolerance?
SLB5757 replied to r0ckah0l1c's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am not 100% sure what symptoms you would have if you had a dairy intolerance. I am fairly certain that I am lactose intolerant, so I am avoiding it as best as I can. I will cheat every now and then and consume ice-cream or cheese - but I always pay for it later. My reactions will vary depending on the amount that I consume. If I were to have fettucine alfredo... -
ARCHIVED Baking Gluten Free
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow - so many great ideas - a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who responded. Turns out my father had a breadmaker he wasn't using (Breadman Plus), so I inherited a great gift this weekend I went to my local Meijers and bought a "Gluten Free pantry" sandwich bread mix. It actually turned out good in my breadmaker the very first time. I had to try it fresh... -
ARCHIVED Please Help! Self Diagnosed Myself With Celiac Disease
SLB5757 replied to MomOf2PrettyGirls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like you are telling my story to a "T". I also started having issues after my son was born. He is 4 now - but I started having issues with the gastro symptoms right after he was born. It started slowly like every few days and quickly progressed to daily and every time I ate (or so it seemed - I was eating wheat/gluten at every meal basically). I was... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Question
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello - and ha ha about the mom voice. I know it all to well as I use it frequently with my 10 and 4 year old!! I like you seem to be constantly itchy or sneezy. My eyes have always been sensitive - esp. Last night for some reason. Maybe it was all of the corn. I don't think I had celery in anything - but I honestly never check for that. I still eat... -
ARCHIVED How The Hell Am I Supposed To Travel?
SLB5757 replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the other posters. It is very difficult and at times debilitating. I have MULTIPLE food allergies and intolerances and like I was stuck unable to do anything social. The thing my father told me was " Stacy - you are going to feel crappy no matter what. You may as well be feel crappy and be doing the things you enjoy doing rather than feeling... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Question
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry - I saw this AFTER I typed my novel of a response. I didn't realize corn was so harsh on my digestive system. i will try cutting out Gluten and corn and see how that goes for me - maybe at least corn light and no corn pancakes like I have eaten for two days. They were just so darned yummy!!! I thought I had found a great bread substitute -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Question
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unfortunately I am allergic to MANY things and can't eliminate all of them without starving or eating an ultra bland diet (I think). I haven't updated that signature yet I tested positive (4's or 4++) to Wheat, Rye, Barley, Corn, Soy, Peanuts, Walnuts, Pistachios, Almonds, Cinnamon, Cantaloupe, Watermelon, Lemons, Grapefruit, Green Pepper, Potato, Tomato... -
Hello I have only been gluten-free since last Tuesday, 5/19/09. I am still trying to figure out what to eat/not to eat and cross contamination. I have went about 8 days with virtually no pain until last night after dinner when my sharp left side pain returned briefly. It wasn't to the extent that I had previously - but it was definitely the same. ...

I do not see any difference between having a toastada shell or a taco shell there. Why wouldn't someone with Celiac be able to have both the tostada and the hard shell tacos? None of them have a wheat statement or a statement following them that say they are fried in the same frier as the wheat protein products. Is there something in the beef that I should...

ARCHIVED Zyrtec - Contains Gluten And Dairy/lactose
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am new to all of this so again-I had to call. The representative this AM told me two times they contain gluten. After reading everyones posts I called again. This rep said only "we do not test for gluten". She repeated that statement three times. Newbie error here. They can't state whether it does or does not contain it. Sorry -

ARCHIVED Zyrtec - Contains Gluten And Dairy/lactose
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called Zyrtec first thing this morning specifically asking about lactose and gluten. They stated that all of their products were not gluten free. My doctor had prescribed Claritin tablets and these do contain lactose so he switched me to the fast tabs which are lactose free. I am only 8 days gluten free so I am calling every company before I use their products... -
ARCHIVED Zyrtec - Contains Gluten And Dairy/lactose
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yay for Claritin. Just called the info line and the representative was VERY helpful. Claritin regular 10mg tabs contain lactose. Claritin Ready-Tabs are lactose free/casein free. Claritin Grape and Fruit flavored syrup is lactose/casein free. ALL Claritin products are Gluten free ~ Looks like I will not be starting my generic Claritin... -
ARCHIVED Zyrtec - Contains Gluten And Dairy/lactose
SLB5757 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hello all. I called Zyrtec just now and they explained to me that their products contain gluten and milk (all of them)! Does anyone know of a brand that does not contain gluten or lactose? I am going to call Claritin as well - but sheeeeesh. You would think that they would have maybe one formulation that didn't contain gluten or lactose. It was... -
ARCHIVED Baking Gluten Free
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you all for your answers!! I will certainly look for these items. I actually travel to Columbus attimes because my sons father lives there. We usually meet half way every other weekend - but I could make a full trip and make that my shopping day at their "whole foods" store or what have you I guess. Toledo is close enough as well and I have friends... -
I am 5 days on the Gluten free diet - and while I still have an occasional pain here or there - I can't believe how much better I feel!! Wow. I can't even articulate what a difference there has been in my life. You do not realize how bad you were/had gotten until you are actually feeling semi-normal again. I have multiple food allergies/intolerances that...

ARCHIVED Could This Be Gluten/wheat Related?
SLB5757 replied to Wanda-E's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do not have much information for you because I myself am a "newbie" but I at least wanted to respond to you so you didn't feel like no one here cared. I think that what you are describing could be multiple things. It could be Celiac, Gluten Sensitivity, a Wheat allergy, or just purely coincidental. It could be an allery or reaction to something else... -
ARCHIVED Random Call From Gi After Writing Me Off As Ibs
SLB5757 replied to SLB5757's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmmm...maybe I should do a little more research before I panic. I will talk to the doc's assistant today to find out more information. I am already on day two of a gluten free diet though and really want to see if this helps. Already I feel a bit less "foggy". Maybe wishful thinking - but I know I have suffered with something all of my life. From what I read... -
ARCHIVED Ongoing Symptoms - Always Thirsty & Hypoglycemic Symptoms?
SLB5757 replied to rubyred's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't even know how I found this post but I wanted to make a little suggestion. When you do get your insurance - have the doc order a 5 hour fasting blood sugar test (thats what it was called years ago when I had it done). I had this problem as you do - same symptoms really. Hungriness, thirstyness, crankiness, shakiness, anxiety issues, weird feeling in... -
ARCHIVED Abnormal Gallbladder- Symptom Of Celiacs?
SLB5757 replied to terribeth07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do not think it is related - but anything is possible. Did your doc only do a Hida? Did they do bloodwork and check for pancreatic function...or do something like a "gastric emptying scan"? I remember when I was in the beginning stages of having all of the tests run they did many blood panels, a Hidaa scan, Gastric emptying scan and numerous other things...
