ARCHIVED Are Allergy Tests Worth It?
darkhorse replied to darkhorse's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks for your thoughts on this. I keep going back and forth on the allergy testing idea. I agree that it may be sensitivities or intolerances that are causing these symptoms. I'm also worried about the high rate of false positives/negatives that allergy testing would give. Looking into my food patterns had brought me to the conclusion that it is nightshades... -
I am thinking about getting allergy tests done to see if I have an allergy to wheat and dairy since I came back negative on the celiac tests. Here's my random train of thought on why I'm thinking about it. I have seasonal allergies and one of them is grass but I don't really care about it since seasonal allergies are pretty typical and my symptoms aren...

If you don't mind, can I ask what you mean when you say your hormones were a mess. My husband and I are starting TTC for the first time and my OB/GYN is doing preemptive testing for infertility because it appears that my hormones are a mess too. I'm hoping to have the same success you did.

ARCHIVED What Happenes When You Are "glutened"?
darkhorse replied to SLB5757's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, Watercolor, that really sucks. My symptoms are not that severe (thank goodness) but they do knock me down pretty bad. My symptoms are bloating, gas, abdominal pain especially across the top of my stomach, pain after eating anything, nausea, sometimes D although it usually takes a few days, fatigue and feeling run down, really bad insomnia, skin... -
I'm sorry about getting glutened. I am just getting over two back-to-back glutenings. The first happened at a restaurant and I didn't feel it until the next morning. The second one happened due to using a cast iron skillet that was previously used for gluten containing food and I felt it before I was even done with my meal, so less than half an hour. I think...

ARCHIVED No Villi Atrophy But Do Have Inflamation
darkhorse replied to srthomas21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My results showed the same thing. I tested negative for a bunch of other tests (don't remember hearing about Crohns) including IBD, Barrett's esophagus, H pylori, ulcers and a bunch of other things. I did have elevated mast cells that indicated an immune response of some kind. I had a positive response to the diet and all my pain and stomach problems went... -
Okay, new question... Do I need to replace cast iron cookware or can it be safely cleaned? I leaning more toward the replacing of it, but I ask because the cast iron cookware is DH's baby. I seem to be pretty darn sensitive and I reacted to something in our dinner last night. After rechecking every ingredient the only thing I can figure is that DH used...

Right before I went Gluten-free Casein-free I constantly felt ridiculously hungry all day long. I would eat and then ten minutes later I would be hungry again. Now I'm not talking the hungry where you're bored or thinking about food. I mean the hungry where your stomach is growling and you feel like you are starving kind of hungry. But as soon as I would...

Thanks for your replies. I feel better about using the storage bin. I did clean it very thoroughly and it's not scratched. My concern was mostly that it had been used to store wheat flour for so long. I am donating any food items that are in new, unopened condition. We tend to buy items in bulk, so anything my husband didn't want we donated to a food...

I am done with all my testing and I am ready to be gluten free from now on. I have been gluten free for two weeks and after discovering hidden gluten in ketchup I am doing so much better. I am in the process of setting up my kitchen to be mostly gluten free and dairy free as well as MSG, soy, corn light. My husband is not 100% gluten/dairy free although...

ARCHIVED Results Of Egd - Reactive Gastropothy?
darkhorse posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have a follow up appointment for my endoscopy on Wednesday of next week, but I got a thing in the mail today about my results. It said that I have reflux esophagitis (GERD) and reactive gastropathy. I am confused because I rarely get heartburn. I mean, I do get it every here and there, but maybe only once a month. So I don't get the reflux esophagitis... -
ARCHIVED Decided To Go For The Biopsy
darkhorse replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can totally relate. I was really freaked out about my EGD. I am also very medication and needle phobic so that part of it scared me too. But it all was okay and your's will be too. Just try not to think about it for the next few weeks. Pretend it isn't going to happen. I know that's hard, but don't worry. Plus I looked at it as these doctors do this... -
ARCHIVED Recovery Time
darkhorse replied to chris s's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I second that everyone's bodies are different. I also agree that your system needs time to heal. Make sure you are taking it very easy. Eat small amounts at each meal. Make sure your food is really basic right now and avoid other foods (like alcohol, dairy, sweets, spicy food, etc.) that make your stomach work harder. I have been dealing with testing... -
ARCHIVED False Negative?
darkhorse replied to Jamie1763's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I so understand the pants issue, although for me it was also any shirt that would hide my bloated stomach so people would stop asking me if I was pregnant. I am in the process of testing for Celiac. My PCP only ordered two tests (don't know which ones) that came back normal. I searched out a GI Dr. who specialized in Celiac and he just redid all my... -
From what I've read heart burn is your body's way of fighting off H pylori because it can't handle high acidic levels (probably why they say to use vinegar to fight it). So if you are having a lot of heartburn that might be indicative of the H pylori rearing its ugly head. Not sure if that helps, but it might explain some of your symptoms.
-
No, he really just didn't know what the tests were. He also was certain I didn't have it and I may not (still in the testing phase). My GI doc was annoyed when he saw what tests my PCP ordered and he had me redo the entire thing with all 6 test and 3 others. My insurance covers it all so there was no reason to try to save money. Oh well. I harbor no ill will...

ARCHIVED Edoscopy Results
darkhorse posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I went in for my endoscopy today and it was not as bad as I thought. For some reason he took a biopsy of my esophagus, stomach and small intestine. My throat hurts at the biopsy site, but that is the worst of my post procedure symptoms. He didn't have the results yet, but the report said that my GI tract showed mucosal abnormality and was very inflamed. I... -
ARCHIVED Going For First Gi Appointment Tomorrow
darkhorse replied to SLB5757's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This really bugs me because the "classic" celiac symptom of being underweight is actually not that common. A scientific research study showed that most people are either normal weight, over weight, or obese at diagnosis. Only a small minority of celiac diagnosed people are underweight at diagnosis. Don't let your Dr.'s misinformation make you doubt what your... -
ARCHIVED Acne Issues
darkhorse replied to Hydrokube's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A lot of the things I have read about diet and acne say that you should eliminate dairy first (for normal people of course), then gluten, the fatty food, then some others that I can't remember. I have always had acne on my face, but for the most part it is not bad (only one or two pimples at a time) unless I get a breakout. But I have always had really bad... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
darkhorse replied to darkhorse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have already started a food journal and I am tracking my symptoms this whole time I was off gluten and dairy. I am planning on going back on gluten today, but it is really depressing to think about it. Actually, I was thinking about it all day and I keep putting it off. I was going to start this morning, but then I didn't want to feel bloated for a fitness... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
darkhorse posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was tested for celiac disease (kinda) by a doctor who didn't know anything about it other than I "didn't want it." He only ordered two of the blood tests and I don't remember the name of them. I didn't see the results, but supposedly they came back normal. I decided to eliminate gluten (and then quickly realized I also needed to eliminate diary) and the... -
ARCHIVED For Those Of You Who Never Lost Weight B4 Going gluten-free
darkhorse replied to ptkds's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, the research I have seen shows that most people are not underweight before being diagnosed and it is actually the opposite. The study showed that most people were in the normal range, then overweight/obese people, and then the smalled percent were underweight at diagnosis. For me, I began gaining weight rapidly right before going to the doctor... -
ARCHIVED Casein/lactose Intolerance
darkhorse replied to darkhorse's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welda, thank you for your inspiring words. I totally agree about sticking to the diet. I thought I would have a really hard time sticking to a diet that elimated my two favorite foods, but with how crappy I used to feel compared to now, I don't have any desire to eat them again. It's also nice not having people ask me if I'm pregnant all the time. I just...
