  1. My 12 year old yellow lab, Troy, would appreciate your vote. He has some medical bills to cover! Open Original Shared Link Thank you! PS: You are able to vote once every 24 hours.
  2. Blood tests are not the "official" way to diagnose, they are just an easy first step. My dad's blood work also came up with a 0. They determined that some people's body just don't produce the antibody that they are looking for. An endoscopy is the true way of diagnosing. If you and your doc want to be 100% sure, then this is the next step. Best...
  3. In a weird way, we can all say: Congrats on your diagnosis! At least now you know what you have and how to treat it. Keep a positive attitude, because your life is changing for the better. You almost can't find a more healthy diet.
  4. Stay positive about it. Don't make it sound like a burden on yourself or your hosts, they will feed off your attitude. I always give a simple explanation... anything natural, such as meats, veggies, and fruits are a safe bet.
  5. I try extremely hard to not be an inconvenience to family and friends. I never let my restriction burden them, and if someone has to be unhappy, it is me. Sometimes I end up not eating or drinking with everyone else, but I still go. Usually, I can always find something to eat or drink everywhere. Don't be embarrassed! I turn every negative conversation...
  6. How long have you been gluten-free? For the first 6 months, I had daily cravings for my "past life" favorite foods... pizza, beer, pasta, chicken tenders! It was really tough. At about that 6 month mark, I just didn't care for them anymore. Recently, I had a free, hot pizza and cold Bud Light put in front of me, and I passed the test! Once you...
  7. Personally, I've seen the opposite of the article. I switched to gluten-free because of non-bathroom related symptoms. After almost a year of being gluten-free, I have more symptoms now than I did before I switched to the gluten-free diet. It is VERY frustrating in the short term, but I know I am better off in the long run.
  8. My lymph nodes do occasionally swell up, but will go away in less than a week. It really scares me when it does that. I am comforted to know that it isn't anything serious if they keep going a way. It only happens once every few months.

    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

I found a great article on "brain fog" from Linda "the gluten free homemaker". I reposted it and added my own comments on my blog: Open Original Shared Link Here is an excerpt and decent medical explanation... "Intestinal permeability is part of the reaction that takes place when someone with celiac disease eats gluten. To put it simply, molecules...
  10. PF Changs is always a great place that gluten-free and nonGF people love. I recently tried Fortune Wok in Kansas City! I forgot what they use, but they can make all the breaded dishes. It was amazing! The same price as PF Changs. My girlfriend like my food better than hers.
  11. Hu Hot was one of my past life frequent places while in college in Columbia, MO. I currently live in Kansas City where we have BD's Mongolian BBQ, same setup at HuHot. BD's is aware of gluten free. They will tell you what sauces are gluten-free, and they will even cook you meal in its own wok in the back. I feel pretty confident eating there!
  12. Congrats!!! I just passed 3 months. I hope to have my 80th anniversary of being gluten-free someday!
  13. Rachel: I was diagnosed 3 years ago... and have spent the past 3 years living the "college lifestyle" and saying "I will start tomorrow." Over the past year, I started to become lethargic and somewhat depressed. That was the final straw to get me to switch. On Jan. 1st 2009 I went Gluten Free! The biggest motivation you can have is seeing positive...
