Testing for Celiac in kids really becomes important when they enter the public school system. I eliminated the gluten from my daughter's diet when her symptoms grew to include horrible headaches (sometimes with memory loss). I didn't worry about a diagnoses, just that she felt better. I'm still pretty new here, and trying to pick up on the rules. What is the time limit for new members and PM's? I received an email telling me I had a message, then couldn't access it. I feel bad that someone will think I am ignoring them, do they get an error message too so they know it is nothing intentional?

Cherie, The period of mourning associated with a new gluten free diet is totally expected. When I went gluten free I cried for days. It made me resentful to hear of other people going to parties and out to eat. It was horrible! I was afraid to eat anything, and lost a ton of weight because I lived on chicken breasts and veggies. The biggest surprise to me when I went gluten free was that I went through a 2 week "detox" period. I felt worse than ever and almost gave up. At the end of the 2 weeks, though, I was clear headed and felt better than I had in my life. Since then, I still have ups and downs. There are days where I'm sure I've been contaminated but can't figure out...

That is interesting information...but a bit short sighted. It seems that there are a lot more factors that are not being considered.

I feel your pain! Within two weeks of trying a gluten free diet, I realized there was no going back for me. What had started as an experiment became very real when I first "cheated" and got very sick. Apparently I'm one of those people with extreme symptoms. For awhile I got really depressed and bitter about what I saw as a forced lifestyle change.... -

I'm new to the forum and I'm really glad to see this post! I've been gluten free since September and the fatigue has still not gone away. I was afraid it was just me.
